  1. Since I will be in Vegas for the PSU game here is this and this
  2. SEC games are the best to watch, though I love most all the college football games. If the SEC and Big Ten didnt play at the same time id watch more SEC games. I cant stand to watch the pac 10 on saturday night. The SEC saturday night games are usually pretty damn good so ill catch a couple of those games. Its about time the Big Ten adopted some saturday night football this year. I am looking forward to seeing what the Big House looks like after the renovation. Its about time they updated it. There's nothing like a primetime SEC matchup on a Saturday night, Florida/Tennessee, LSU/Auburn, etc. Nothing better. :D Lets not forget SC/GA next Saturday. Back to back national TV appearances to open the season sounds good to me. Can't disagree with that. Almost any game in the SEC is better than watching the Pac 10, Big East, or even the Big 12, for that matter. Big 10 then SEC. I would put those 2 above any other conference, in that order.
  3. You're paying for that guy to be available at a time he'd rather not be working or when there is a more imediate demand for the services. Ever needed a plummer on a Sunday? It's the same principle. It's also why the grave yard shifts at the hospital pay pharmacists, nurses, etc an extra 5-15 bucks more an hour. You have to make it worthwhile for these people to work when they'd rather not. Yea I get all of that. It just sucks, thats all. Same thing happened when I knocked my teeth out on the 4th of July. I guess it was the manner in which they handled it that made me the most upset. My dog is dying in front of them, and they refuse to even acknowledge something is wrong until I give them money. That was the most upsetting. Sorry this thread got off topic.
  4. Wasn't the guy that was supposed to be Notre Dame's #1 receiver last year injured for the whole year and that's the reason Samardzija was the starter? If so, who knows what would have happened last year with Samardzija at WR if the guy wasn't hurt. McKnight got hurt during the Michigan game. As for as being number one, I think it was supposed to be Stovall anyway, not McKnight (could be wrong). Either way Samardzija would have been the #3 receiver, but I think he made a pretty good case for a move up during the Pitt game, when all 3 receivers were playing. Thanks. Nothing too serious. My dog got sick, and I would rather spend the money on him than a football game. OFF TOPIC: 24 hr. vet hospitals are highway robbery. I had to pay $120 up front for them to even see him! If you paid as much to go to school as the average vet, you'd charge that much for your time also. I didn't say a word about the average vet. It is the 24 hr hospitals that are outragous. Vets prices are reasonable. But to pay $120 to even be able to see the vet, then the vet prices on top of that, it is a bit crazy.

  6. To get back on track with the thread, does anyone know if ABC will have a HD broadcast of the ND/GT game? I may not be able to make it to the game now due to an unexpected financial crisis.
  7. Also Ty did not actively pursue Samardzija. Heard about him from the baseball coach, and put him on the team more to help the baseball team get him. Speaking of unproductive seniors look at Julius Jones and how Ty played him behind Ryan Grant when Jones was obviously the better back. The only wins ND got that year were when JJ touched the ball 20+ times (except one, IIRC).
  8. As a Notre Dame fan, I feel very sorry for what is going to happen to that team. Ty already managed to pull in one of the worst recruiting classes in the history of the BCS Big Six conferences after a 2-win season. It could be a long time for Husky fans till they're back. What?? Where do you get this from? Rivals has UW 2006 recruiting class at 35. For a 2 win season thats pretty damn good. Do you remember reading the board here with all the surprise of how well Zook recruited off of that terrible season, well his recruiting class was better but not by much. Ty landed 4 4 star recruits and 3 of those from Washington. One thing he said when he got the job was to 'shore up the state of Washington recruits'. The state of Washington produces some fine talent and it appears he has made some progress in that regard. You can say what you want to say about Ty but dont forget this. The only reason and i mean only 1 reason that ND is considered a national title contender is because of Brady Quinn. Ty's first major recruit, a national recognized top ten 4 star QB, when he had a full season to fully recruit. It was Ty who lead the charge on moving the prehistoric, Bob Davie option offense to a more West Coast, professional offense. If he hadnt done either of those Chuck Weis wouldnt be where he is right now. Are you familiar with the way Ty recruited Quinn? I assume not but he did not go after Quinn. In fact Quinn's dream was to attend ND but he was not getting any offers, or even phone calls, while offers from many other major schools were pouring in. After ND get Ndukwe (who went to HS with Quinn) to come to South Bend for a visit, Ndukwe's dad suggested that Ty look at Quinn. Ty did not land Quinn with his first major year of recruiting. Ndukwe's dad landed Quinn for ND after Ty didn't pay any attention to him for most of his first full season of recruiting. And luckily Quinn was waiting for ND to make an offer, otherwise he would probably be a Buckeye. Here is what was said in a SI article EDIT: Also Ndukwe's father helped ND get Abrarimi (sp?). Just to reiterate, TY did not recruit well. He thought that the fact it was ND would be all he needed. He lost many big recruits, and the only ones he managed to land were the ones who had always wanted to go to ND. For another example of Ty's excellent recruiting look into Steve Quinn.
  9. When did that start? We used to always tailgate in the parking lot across from the Marathon. I know they cracked down on a lot of things (no sale of kegs, etc.) but I didn't know they messed with the tailgating. We have an RV rented for Homecoming. Will we be able to get into the lot and tailgate there?
  10. I looked everyone on the board and didn't see this anywhere. Sorry if I missed it!! So, I was out doing a little pre-birthday celebrating last night, and when I glanced up at the TV I saw that Maddux was willing to waive his no-trade clause. Did I see this correctly? Couldn't find anything else that had the story, but I am positive I saw that. Once again, I apologize if this is somewhere and I just missed it.
  11. I am planning on going to the Rams/Bears Monday night game. Anyone been to a game in St Louis? Are single game tickets fairly easy to get?
  12. So here is the bet I made with one of my roommates. I don't think it is so bad, but everyone tells me I am crazy. Of course I live in Indy where the Colts can't do wrong, but here it is--pretty simple. The bet: The Bears will make it farther than the Colts in the playoffs. Tie breaker is regular season record, and after that conference record. The wager: The loser has to pay for the winner for one night. Dinner at a nice restaurant (prob St. Elmos or Ruth Chris), full meal with drinks. After that the loser will pay for all drinks at whatever bar the winner wants to go to, for the whole night, plus all cab fares. Pretty much the winner gets a free night on the town. Probably end up being around a $400-500 dollar bet. Am I crazy for taking that bet? I feel pretty safe. Of course I am sure some of my Colt hatred played some effect in that. It is printed up, signed, and framed on the wall.
  13. It will be interesting to see if that new rule ever comes into effect. The main factor in that (if I understand it correctly) is conference strength. I Big East and ACC could face some troubles there. Probably the Big East more than the ACC, but both have a pretty big drop off in talent after the top few teams.
  14. That's harsh. Barry Sanders is one of the most humble professional athletes in history as well as being one of the most talented. Barry walked away from the game partly because Payton's rushing record meant very little to him. He did the same in high school when he got within 30 yards or so of the league's rushing title. He felt Rodney Peete deserved the Heisman. While playing, he was notorious for not cashing paychecks and lived in a $175,000 home. Barry Sanders was a lot of things, a quitter is not one of them. I agree. I have more respect for Barry walking away from the game, than I do for Smith hanging on too long and breaking the records.
  15. Well the Cuse/Iowa series starts up this fall. You'll get to see another one of those teams up close. We used to do really well against Big 10 teams until the last Purdue game...yikes. I'm looking forward to the Iowa and Northwestern series we have coming up. As for top team, who did Penn State lose? I thought they had a heck of a team too. I will be at the Pitt/Syracuse game this year. It will be my first time in NY, and I am really looking forward to it. I believe PSU lost a rather large chunk of their starters. Don't know the exact numbers, but I am sure that Truffle or Derwood will be able to fill that part in. Why are you coming to Syracuse? A good friend of mine who went to Syracuse (I worked with him here in Indy) just moved to Albany and I am going to visit him. Going to that game, and going to take a train to NYC for a day so I am pretty excited about it.

  17. Soon. When I first looked at this it said 'you should come out with one'. Now it says soon and it wasn't edited. Am I going crazy? I am not sure when they will be out, but all the ones I have seen in magazines have OSU at #1. Notre Dame is getting some also, and Athlon's has Oklahoma. They all have their flaws and there's no one that's a clear cut leader, but I like both of those two more than Ohio State. As an ND fan it pains me to say this, but they are not a #1 team. No way at all.
  18. Soon. When I first looked at this it said 'you should come out with one'. Now it says soon and it wasn't edited. Am I going crazy? No. so how did it change? Also, here is another article I read recently about the most overrated teams in the preseason polls. http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2006/Columnists/RC/OverratedTeams.htm MSU is the most overrated, and much to my chagrin, ND is no. 8.

  20. I am pretty much the same, but this would probably be a great way to learn about some players that I don't know a whole lot about. Though I will not fully participate, I will avidly read the threads.
  21. I am not familiar with the Bucknuts board all that much, and I agree with you about comparing NCs not being the ultimate factor. Unfortunately the flawed poll system gives some good, lower tier teams, little chance of ever making it to the top spot.
  22. I just read a pretty decent article posted on an OSU board. Thought some here may enjoy it, plus maybe get the conversation away from ND. http://ohiostate.scout.com/2/543760.html It is an article about parity in CFB. Not bad.
  23. haha, what now? Michigan and MSU had a combined 3 games before they played Notre Dame. Are you seriously going to say that people overrating Notre Dame is due to their opponents? Isn't the entire reason they were overrated due to their murderous-but-oh-wait-a-minute-not-really schedule? You can't help everything, I guess, but Pitt-Mich-MSU, even with what ended up happening, is still a much tougher opening three games than what the majority of BCS conference schools face to open things up. That's nice. They still played a weaker schedule than most of the big boys. You can't compare Notre Dame's first three games to other teams' first three games because Notre Dame plays a non-conference schedule the entire season. Did they play a weaker schedule than fellow BSCer FSU?
  24. What does this have to do with anything? Should ND just not make a schedule until a few weeks before the season so they can have all good teams. I don't think you will hear many ND fans saying that ND's schedule was as tough as it looked before the season started. Would you say that their schedule this season is tough? S 02 @ Georgia Tech S 09 PENN STATE S 16 MICHIGAN S 23 @ Michigan St. S 30 PURDUE O 07 STANFORD O 21 UCLA O 28 @ Navy (Baltimore) N 04 NORTH CAROLINA N 11 @ Air Force N 18 ARMY N 25 @ Southern Cal I think it is pretty decent. Probably about as tough as most-but definately not all- conference schedules.
  25. Which only takes about 7 wins for ND, right? Which is a hell of a lot harder to get than the ACC's automatic berth. LOL please tell me you didn't say that. In the ACC you have to beat out FSU, Miami, Va Tech, Virginia, BC, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Maryland. All Notre Dame has to do is win all of the games they're supposed to win and go .500 on the others. Yeah that sure is tougher. What changes were made? Do they not have to win just 9 games or finish in the top 12 anymore? As far as disadvantages of not being in a conference, come on. How is it a disadvantage? I don't want to get into another ND debate but you know that ND has far more advantages than disadvantages of not being in a conference and that's why they won't switch. If they were in a conference it wouldn't be as easy to get into the BCS and they wouldn't have nearly every home game televised nationally. The ACC has sent some pretty average teams to the BCS. Just look at FSU last year. Changes were made and ND and the BCS reworked their contract. It has been thoroughly discussed on this board and you can find all the changes at the BCS website. To sum it up, they have to finish in the top 8 to get an automatic bid. And they have been passed over twice for BCS games with 9 wins. Never have they been in a BCS game with less than 9 wins. I was not saying that not being in a conference is a disadvantage, but that is one disadvantage of it. They can't win 7 games and go (see the ACC). Also with the new BCS agreement, winning a conference does not guarantee a BCS berth. Strenght of conference comes into play. I really don't want to turn every college football thread into a ND thread, so maybe this season we can have a weekly game thread, and then an ongoing ND thread. That way every thread won't turn into 10 pages about ND's schedule or their not being in a conference, or anything like that. I know a lot of people were sick of reading constant debates about ND.
