  1. Although I'm not sure why Truffle is so positive either, to be fair, the Irish have won the last two in East Lansing. But those are the only two victories agains MSU since 97. I really think MSU is going to beat them this weekend.
  2. I don't expect anyone to take this seriously because it's from an ND outlet and obviously it didn't have any impact on the outcome of the game, but I agree fully with this paragraph, and it hasn't just been the Michigan game. First, I do agree with him that they shouldn't have Big 10 officials to call this game. As I stated in the other thread, in a game between two teams from opposing conferences, the officials should come from a third conference. I do think that a game between two BCS teams should have officials from a BCS conference though. Second, I don't understand why this guy is complaining about the holding calls when in the very next paragraph he states: If the offensive line "sucks" as he so nicely put it, don't you think it's possible that they hold the players on the opposing team more because they, well, "suck" more than their opponent's offensive line? It is very interesting that ND opponents have not been called for any holding calls this year. Yes ND is guilty of most of their holds, but a few of them were complete crap. I don't like complaining about refs because I don't really think they can lose a game for a team (at least not until the Oregon game), but there really is something interesting going on. It wouldn't have made a bit of difference this Saturday, but I really do think the officiating was terrible--both calls made and missed calls.
  3. I'm not sure if the refs necessarily did anything wrong, but the replay officials should have been fired. Is it possible to change the outcome of the game? Can they give the win to Oklahoma?
  4. C'mon man, us guys have stayed in our thread and left the college football thread ND free. Please don't ruin the only sanctuary we have left. :D
  5. Yea, but that will never happen, which is unfortunate. I once did a speech on instituting a playoff system, and with 16 teams it can be done without any income loss to the schools or bowls. Unfortunately the NCAA seems to think that the current system is adequate. Can you detail more how it wouldn't cost anyone any money? I haven't researched the topic, but I'd have to imagine that a playoff system where your team isn't guaranteed to make it to the next game(plus the cost of traveling and paying for tickets to two different bowl sites) would cause lower attendance at later bowl games. I really wish I could and will try to find the info at some point soon. I did the speech about 4 years ago and don't remember the details. A lot of it was based of off a web site that did extensive research on it. I will see if I can find a link to that.

  7. so, where would you rank ND after that loss today? I would have had them no higher than 20, but I'm not going to complain about being ranked 12 for obvious reasons. What's going to be funny is if the Irish lose next week and Penn St. wins...guess who will be ranked ahead of your ND team? What would be funny about that? It is something that happens every year to many different teams. I agree and it's annoying as heck. Yea it is. Really the whole poll system is annoying to me. I can't think of one year where there has not been some sort of controversy. I don't offer a solution, but something should be done. Maybe get rid of preseason polls would be a good start

  9. I didn't see the game...how did Mr. Hart do? Ahem...this is the ND thread.
  10. It appears the every top 10 team has to play another top 10 team at some point this season. I think this is going to be an awesome - yet unpredictable - CFB season.
  11. Article on new AP Poll
  12. If - and its a big if - things go right, ND could possibly have a chance to get in as a one loss team. I think this year may only see one undefeated team in OSU, WVU, or LU and all of those teams have a game or two they could easily lose. Of course its a long shot but I have to remain somewhat optimistic :D By LU I'm assuming you mean Louisville. WVU and LU still have to play each other this year so that eliminates one of them. And since you are assuming Notre Dame finishes with one loss, that means USC will lose a game. Aside from Ohio State (who I think will beat Michigan and run the table) the team(s) you are forgetting is the winner of the Auburn/Florida game. I think a one-loss Notre Dame could jump ahead of an undefeated WVU or Louisville because of the strength of schedule but they will not jump ahead of an undefeated SEC team. Well I did consider those two teams but since Florida also has Georgia, LSU and FSU and Auburn has has to play Georgia as well, if Florida can beat Auburn and either LSU, FSU, or Georgia beat Florida, my plan will work. Like it said, it is pretty unlikely but figuring out stuff like this gives me more teams to root for every weekend. Yeah, the SEC keeps beating up on itself. But a 1-loss SEC team is more likely to get in than Notre Dame. Plus, I think ND is going to lose to USC. Oh, I know it is very unlikely for ND to get in. I am just trying to be optimistic. And if ND plays like it did yesterday they will lose to every other team they play.

  14. like I said before, you ND fans here are very different from the ones I knew in college and much more objective. You couldn't even talk about football with those guys. Thats why I hate when everyone groups all ND fans into one big arrogant bunch. Most of us are not that way, but a few bad apples ruin it. I am 26 yrs old. ND has not gone undefeated since I was 8. To lose a few games a year is nothing new to me. I grew up during Davie and Willingham. Losses are expected. Might sound strange, but I actually can't stand ND students. Even when out in bars in South Bend I find them to be arrogant and annoying. Not just because of football, but because they think since they go to ND they are the upper echelon of society, and look down on us non-students. I think I have only met one or two that were decent, and I have known quite a few students there.

  16. so, where would you rank ND after that loss today? right ahead of LSU
  17. ND looked terrible today. The whole team was off, and couldn't get anything going at all. Hats of to Michigan for coming prepared. That being said... I am not that upset about this loss. I expected them to lose at least two this year, and to lose on early to a ranked opponent is the best possible scenario. If they can rebound against MSU and go through the weak part of their schedule with little trouble, it could set up for an interesting game against USC at the end of the year. I never had Championship aspirations, so this is probably the best way they could lose. Also maybe now Quinn & co. will realize that they are not as good as everyone makes them sound.
  18. I am supposed to be but since I got hospitalized this week with an infection it looks pretty unlikely. Now I have the tough choice of deciding which friend to give the tickets to. Aren't you a student? Sell them. I could, but many of my friends are ND fans, and I know they would all love the chance to go, and many of them have given me tickets when I didn't have any. Plus, I didn't pay anything for them, so I would feel bad selling them. Although it is tempting to be able to pay a few months rent off of some free tickets.

  20. Digital cable :D And I bought a new HDTV last week for the beginning of college football and NFL season. Sweet, so I'm coming to your house then? I'll bring the Yuengling I wish I could drink Yuengling. There is a bar in Bloomington that has it on tap now, so hopefully it will get to Indy soon. Did get to drink Fat Tire in Vegas so that was nice.
  21. ND didn't beat any good teams last year and we don't know how good Penn State and Michigan will end up being this year. You can't give a team credit for winning a game early in the season against a highly ranked team if that team ends up having an average year that year. It's just like with Pittsburgh and Michigan last year. Those games looked like big victories and many people continued to mention that Notre Dame beat Michigan when they were ranked #3 in the nation and they beat a ranked Pittsburgh team. Neither of those teams ended up being very good last year so why should ND get credit for beating a good team when said team ends up being no more than an average team. If Penn State finishes the year 5-6, it's obvious that ND's victory over them wasn't actually that impressive. I would argue that Notre Dame's victory over PSU is still pretty impressive even if they finish 5-6, just not as impressive. It doesn't get much more one-sided than 41-3. 17 I hate garbage-time TDs...if they're scored against my teams :D Well, I'd argue that the play was really not lopsided enough to warrant a 41-3 score. ND scored on pretty much all their chances and was bailed out by potential INTs that were dropped by Penn State - and Penn State botched one FG attempt and likely lost more points on a bogus clipping call. What did JoePa say about the clipping?
  22. As long as they stop scoring when they are up by 20 or so...
  23. And from what I have read online, not many people do. I really don't think it was an attempt to run up the score, but rather an attempt to insure the win. Weis has always played aggressively, and this is just another example of that.
  24. Yes, 27-3 may look like a bunch, but a couple of fluke TDs and 2-pointers and it's a one-possession game. Not that I would have called a fake punt, but I don't think it was "classless". But like everything else ND does, it's blown out of proportion. I think if JoePa says it was the right move, and clinched the game, then that should be enough to show that it is not as big of a deal as some are making it. I will say when Ty did it to Stanford a few years ago that was classless. But that was in the 4th when up by around 40.
  25. I am suprised that Gameday is broadcasting from the USC-Nebraska game instead of the LSU-Auburn game.
