  1. 2025 is a non issue if he doesn't hit the innings target (which it does not appear he will).
  2. Let's say, hypothetically, Kyle Hendricks stays healthy and continues to pitch adequately through the rest of this season. Not great by any means, but at least well enough to be competitive in most of his starts. If he wants to continue pitching beyond this season, and if there is little interest in his services from other teams, would you bring him back on a minimum salary-ish type deal as rotation depth? Or is it better to move on and have a clean break?
  3. That's a fair point, but how much of that is Jed and how much of it is Tom's influence on Jed? It is most likely both.
  4. I doubt Jed cares much about the age 40 thing either. Jed will almost certainly be long gone by that time. The problem is that the guy who has to sign off on the deal WILL care about it.
  5. I know it's not happening, but this team needs Juan Soto at any cost next year and then figure the rest out around him.
  6. Not sure it qualifies as a "sword". More like a broken sword, maybe?
  7. Taking money off the books for the sake of taking it off the books isn't getting you anywhere. That performance has to get replaced somehow, and expecting and of the Cubs SP prospects to jump in and replace Taillon's innings next year is completely unrealistic.
  8. Leave it to the Cubs to have two guys on their bench who are essentially the same player (Wisdom and Bote) and that both rarely get at bats.
  9. Hear me out. How about a solid MLB pitcher AND cash for a couple of mid prospects in high A?
  10. I have no idea what to think of the potential Taillon trade market. There are so many different variables. - Do teams believe this version of Taillon is sustainable, for the rest of this year and beyond? - How do teams view his contract situation? Being locked up for 2 more years at a reasonable salary should be a net positive, but I could also see some teams being scared away by those additional years. - How do the Cubs view Taillon as a 2025/26 rotation option? He would seem to be important rotation depth, and you don't trade a guy like that unless the offer is substantial. I just have a hard time believing the Cubs are going to get the type of offers that would lead them to part with a 2025 rotation piece.
  11. That is why it was bad. He over thought it for sure instead of just throwing the ball.
  12. Michael Busch looking like he has played first base his entire life.
  13. He has looked really good after a few hiccups early on. I suspect he could have also played a better third base than Morel, if that was the direction the Cubs had decided to go.
  14. That would be the most aggressive move he's made all year.
  15. Apparently Jed was supposed to meet the media almost an hour ago and still hasn't started speaking. Could be nothing, or maybe something's afoot?
  16. Yeah, I can't get worked up about this. As much as we want everything to stay the same forever and to have the Wrigley area be what we remember it as 40 years ago, that ship has already sailed. Nobody will actually miss these old buildings.
  17. Not likely. He would probably K, but if not it's going to be a fly ball
