  1. So now that the Cubs have completed their postseason collapse, how much will ticket prices increase next year? Another $2-$3 for terrace reserved and $5-$10 for the rest? I hope everyone is happy with Hendry's huge backloaded contracts, because us fans will be paying for their increases every year...
  2. Maybe it's the fact that I was out of town and watching the games by myself late at night, but I never truly got the feel that we were even involved in post-season baseball. Every game just had a sense of inevitibility to it and it really never felt like the Cubs were in the series.
  3. Those are just suggestions from writer Tom Krasovich: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20071003-9999-1s3padres.html Isn't Maddux a free agent after the season? Has he made any comments about retiring or does he plan on coming back? If for nothing else, I'd like to see him pitch at least 1 more year to pass Clemens on the all-time wins list.
  4. I feel the same way because every big signing Hendry makes puts the team's new ownership and next General Manager deeper into a hole. Backloaded contracts mean that we're sacrificing future payroll and flexibility, making it entirely possible that we'll have to go through some real down years and rebuilding.
  5. Yeah, Wood has looked great lately and that's really nice to see. I still find myself wondering whether he could give us 5 or 6 innings in a postseason start, but I know that's unrealistic... at least for this year.
  6. so 4 CT wed 6 CT thurs not official like he said, though I don't buy it. It doesn't make sense for anyone other than the Cubs/Dbacks to play the late game on Thursday night. That's the only game that could be hosted at a reasonable local time. I don't think it's realistic for a game to start at 10:30 local time. I imagine there would be curfew issues preventing such a start time.
  7. After not caring for that song the first time I heard it, only a few days later I am absolutely addicted to that entire album. Recommended. I bought their previous album and was pretty disappointed. I guess I was hoping for something a little closer to Frogstomp.
  8. Craig Monroe shines in the playoffs dude.
  9. Win it for me this year, then Santo and everyone else next year. :D
  10. Even though I would feel better playing the Rockies, I can't root against Maddux's Padres!
  11. Will tomorrow's playoff game be on ESPN or TBS?
  12. +1000 Wood has to be brought back next year. I hope so, but regardless of whether or not the Cubs resign him he has earned himself a pretty decent contract. If the Cubs aren't going to pay him setup/closer money, someone else will.
  13. Yesterday on the radio, someone mentioned an interesting "bait and switch" playoff scenario using Marquis and Hill. I don't think a team would ever do it, but possibly start Marquis to get the opponent to put their left handed hitters in the lineup, then remove him very early in favor of Hill. We would lose our long reliever, but the opponent would have to choose whether to let their lefties face Hill or pinch hit for them and lose them for the game. Like I said, I doubt this would ever happen, but it would be a very interesting strategic move.
  14. My guess is that the first two days will go like this: Weds, October 3rd: 12:30 Rockies/Padres @ Phillies 4:00 Red Sox @ Angels 7:30 Cubs @ D'Backs Thurs, October 4th: 2:30 Rockies/Padres @ Phillies 6:30 Yankees @ Indians 9:30 Cubs @ D'Backs That's the most ratings friendly schedule given where the series are being played. + 1 (maybe switch the BOS/LAA and CHC/ARI games around on Wednesday, but otherwise, looks about perfect from this angle) Exactly what I was thinking... although will MLB be hesitant to put the Rockies/Padres in the 1st game considering they have to play tomorrow? I see your reason for hesitation, but would you punish either of BOS/LAA or CHC/ARI by having them start at 10:30a locally?? Its a bind, but the only thing makes sense is to make the SD (or COL)/PHI series kick it off; it'd be 1:30p local time in Philly. Moreover, I suspect the Cubs/D'backs is a better TV draw than the Red Sox/Angels. I'm not sure about that... I think the Cubs & Red Sox are pretty much a wash, but the Angels will draw more viewers than the Dbacks. It could go either way though.
  15. Just route them around, what's a couple extra miles?
  16. 17. Assuming those posted times are correct, I'm guessing we'll get the 4:00 start on Wednesday, 9:30 on Thursday, 8:00 on Saturday and 2:30 on Sunday. Just as long as we aren't playing the early games on Wednesday or Thursday I'll be happy.
  18. I agree, I think most of the starters, with the exception of Soriano and Ramirez, should at least play part of the game tomorrow. Otherwise, I have a bad feeling we will go into Wednesday's game and the offense will get completely shut down after having 4 days off. Then again, that could very well happen regardless.
  19. If the Mets can rally to win the NL East, MLB couldn't ask for anything more. 4 playoff series involving New York, New York, Boston, and Chicago. I would imagine this could be one of the highest rated Divisional Series ever.
  20. Does anyone know what the actual timeslots are?
  21. Ouch, that would be rough too since I'm going to be on the East Coast and working early in the mornings... Better late at night than during the day though.
  22. Does anyone know what time the games will be on next week? I'm going to be out of town for work and hope the Cubs will play later at night so I have time to get to a bar. I really hope they don't play day games!
