  1. Exactly. I think Hendry relies too heavily on his own players taking hometown discounts, yet he's not afraid to go out and break the bank on another team's free agent. I would be extremely disappointed to see Wood in a different uniform next year, but I can't blame him for leaving if he's not getting top value from the Cubs.
  2. Maybe ya been too busy chasing Matsui ya dope! that's also mentioned in the article along with this nightmarish idea: Theriot in CF Infante SS, Matsui 2B, Theriot CF, DeRosa RF. Murderer's Row, Part 2.
  3. This doesn't sound real promising... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-071120cubsbits,1,1595002.story?coll=cs-home-headlines
  4. I'm probably biased, but for a potential closer I don't think that is insane... especially with the stuff Wood was showing at the end of the season.
  5. Anything new on Wood? Does anyone know if other teams have expressed interest, either as a starter or closer? I was hoping the Cubs would have him re-signed already, but it has been pretty quiet.
  6. But sadly, you know that they will raise ticket prices and find places to add more advertisements at the same time. I actually don't mind the Under Armour logos on the wall, but I never have been able to get used to the sign behind home plate.
  7. It is still not a benefit. He isn't playing for free. I really cannot understand this. Baseball shouldn't be a fraternity club. It might help Fukudome transition better. If it's for a few pennies, why not. if its 3 years 12 mil...jim hendry's probably murdered before sundown, unfortunately. Unfortunately I heard the Cubs offered or are set to offer 3 years, $20M. Hey, what's another bad back-loaded contract anyway?
  8. According to Stone, Fuld is tearing up Winter Ball... which I have a feeling won't carry over at all into next season. I just can't see him ever hitting Major League pitching.
  9. Agree on both points. I would be hesitant promising Wood a starting job, but if we can get him signed to a multi-year deal at an average closer salary I would be all for that. Regarding Prior, I'd rather spend that money elsewhere instead of paying him for another rehab year. At some point the Cubs just need to let go and hope it doesn't come back to bite them.
  10. He drives in runs with his glove.
  11. Apparently the apple didn't fall far from the tree. I heard on ESPN Radio this morning that Hank Steinbrenner commented on how Alex Rodriguez didn't appreciate the "privilege" of playing for the Yankees.
  12. I'll put a billion Stanly nickels on him going to the Red Sox. I have 1000 Shrute bucks that say otherwise. ...whats the ratio of Shrute bucks to Stanly nickels? Nobody answered this one? How sad... it's my favorite quote from the Office "The same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns."
  13. I agree. This is the worst year I can recall. Out of 7 total series, there was only 1 worth watching.
  14. I realize it's a common name, but this doesn't happen to be Steve Wilson the Cubs LHP from the early 90's does it?
  15. Each row of seats is slightly lower than the one behind it, if the current front row is as low as you can go before fans suddenly can't see what's going on, they need to go lower to fit another row. At least, that's what I've been understanding. But they still have to go further out into the field of play and at some point they have to run out of room. Eventually it will be like arena football and there will be no foul territory at all.
  16. Call me an idiot, but how does lowering the field allow for more seating? The playing field area is the same regardless of how high or low it is.
  17. I'm all for the team being sold as quickly as possible, but regardless of whether the sale is completed over the winter I expect Hendry will still be here next season in order to ease the transition into new management. The big question will be his available budget.
  18. It is my hope that a good radio host be brought in so that Mike Murphy no longer has to be used at all.
  19. So we have that going for us, which is nice...
  20. Macowiak to the rescue! I can just see it now, splitting time with Pie in Centerfield with Macowiak getting 75% of the starts.
  21. Ward is 32 and would be a huge loss if the Cubs aren't able to re-sign him. Hopefully the Cubs can also work out a conservative multi-year deal with Wood, let Floyd go, and find a trading partner for Jones. 1 year @ $6.33 million isn't extremely unreasonable for a .285 hitter, so he shouldn't be nearly as untradeable as he has been in the past.
  22. So now that the Cubs have completed their postseason collapse, how much will ticket prices increase next year? Another $2-$3 for terrace reserved and $5-$10 for the rest? I hope everyone is happy with Hendry's huge backloaded contracts, because us fans will be paying for their increases every year...
  23. Maybe it's the fact that I was out of town and watching the games by myself late at night, but I never truly got the feel that we were even involved in post-season baseball. Every game just had a sense of inevitibility to it and it really never felt like the Cubs were in the series.
  24. Those are just suggestions from writer Tom Krasovich: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/padres/20071003-9999-1s3padres.html Isn't Maddux a free agent after the season? Has he made any comments about retiring or does he plan on coming back? If for nothing else, I'd like to see him pitch at least 1 more year to pass Clemens on the all-time wins list.
