  1. You would think we'd be playing better with Bobby Bonds in the leadoff spot...
  2. Hey guys, look at the bright side. Soriano is guaranteed another at bat.
  3. All I can think is to look at the man in the Reds' dugout and know that we will have the last laugh...
  4. With my company being big into Six Sigma, any changes to the rotation at this point would be unnecessary firefighting. There is clearly not enough data yet this season to justify a rotation change. Then again, I think the only black belt Lou has is the one that is struggling to contain his old-time manager belly.
  5. Yeah, but his glove is irreplaceable in the outfield.
  6. He was faster than hell, though. EDIT: Nevermind, I was thinking of Ced Landrum. I was a big fan of Ced Landrum's speed, but unfortunately he had absolutely no offensive ability. 27 out of 32 stolen bases in '91 was pretty good though!
  7. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/03/lou-on-marquis.html Here is an exerpt from the article. I love how Piniella handled this.
  8. A new link on ESPN.com, with confirmation of the same story... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3267163 It's looking more and more likely that we haven't seen the last of Roger Clemens in pinstripes.
  9. I think unethical is a little strong, but maybe underhanded would fit. Zell will squeeze every last penny out of the Cubs and Wrigley Field with no regard for the future of the team since he has no stake in it. Has anyone considered how the Cubs use the Wrigley Field name to sell merchandise? I would be interested to see the estimated income brought in by using the Wrigley Field name, as opposed to how much the Cubs could get by selling naming rights.
  10. That's the catch. The owner won't be paying for Wrigley, because it will be sold separately to the state agency.
  11. I would understand if this were to happen, but a summer without a trip to Wrigley Field just wouldn't feel like summer.
  12. Clemens was asking for trouble, and now here we go... Congress drafts letter reportedly asking feds to look at Clemens
  13. I'm with you. Nameless home jerseys and no blues!
  14. Does anyone else picture this scene straight out of Superbad?
  15. According to The Score, DeRosa has dealt with irregular heartbeats and has taken medication for this condition throughout his life. It sounds like this is mostly a precautionary hospitilization and he is expected to be ok.
  16. Not if you're trying to suck as many dollars out of it as possible, a la MLB. If they really wanted to do that, they could cut down Spring Training and extend the post-season.
  17. It sucks that WSCR broadcasts nearly all of the White Sox spring training games, but WGN only broadcasts the weekends. I want Cubs spring baseball to get me through my work days!
  18. I think any reasonable person would say yes. Wouldn't any reasonable person also say that if he used steroids (its clearly obvious to you and 'reasonable' people since you can say that without a doubt) his name would have been mentioned in at least one of the reports so far. No, not at all. Just because he wasn't affiliated with BALCO or directly/indirectly tied to Radomski doesn't mean that he didn't get steroids elsewhere. The names that have been revealed are likely only a small percentage of steroid users who were unlucky enough to have their sources compromised. By no means does not appearing on the Mitchell report clear anyone of guilt.
  19. I think any reasonable person would say yes.
  20. I just ordered Comcast basic cable with HD. The fine print indicates that I will only get the locals in HD (187-192), but this channel listing doesn't even show WCIU-HD yet. Does anyone know whether it will be available on basic cable?
  21. it works like that online, as well. (proxy time) Are the MLB.TV blackouts based on IP address or physical billing address? I'm going to be traveling quite a bit this spring and want to know if I'll be able to watch the Cubs when I'm out of the area.
  22. I've been maintaining this from the beginning about Michael Vick. If he ran a [expletive]-fighting ring, nobody would have cared. When chickens have out lived their usefulness and let out into the wild they're still just chickens. When dogs do, they kill people. I don't know, my cousin was attacked by a vicious rooster...
  23. I went out and bought Baseball Weekly, with the cover story being "Prior Hope... or Hype?", and laminated it thinking that it would make a nice collectable wall decoration someday. I still have the laminated cover buried in a chest somewhere, but unfortunately that is probably where it will stay.
  24. I realize it would never happen, but I can't believe how many people are posting that they would support this move. I've waited my whole life for the Cubs to win a World Series, but not with players like Bonds who I can't root for. That would honestly take a lot of the enjoyment out of it for me. First it was Sosa, then Baker, and I don't want another guy like that who I don't feel good rooting for.
