  1. Correct. The magic number is 1. Colorado has a 1-0 lead, so I would prefer they beat the Dodgers and the Cubs avoid 100 losses... but that also helps the Cardinals, so I'm not sure. Nevermind that. Dodgers are up 4-1 now.

  3. I sure hope so. I don't think I can handle another season of draft pick rooting. The Pirates lost 105 games in 2010 and then were semi-competitive for parts of both 2011 and 2012 with fewer financial resources, so let's hope the Cubs can at least show some signs of life next year.
  4. I have never been the biggest Soriano fan, but I just don't see the need to trade him at this point. He is still a productive player and it is pretty clear that nobody is going to offer much value for him. The Cubs have plenty of money to spend and don't have any young LF prospects who are being blocked, so the value that Soriano can provide on the field is likely higher than what they could ever get in a trade. If he has another good season, maybe someone will sweeten the pot at the trade deadline, but if not the Cubs might as well pencil him in the lineup for at least 1 more year. As bad as this team is currently, I can't imagine how much worse they would be without Soriano's offensive production (and even his defense) in LF.
  5. Why would anyone give anything of significant value for Jackson at this point?
  6. This is getting truly sad... I wish the Rockies would win tonight so then I could root like hell for the Cubs to win the last 4 games and avoid 100 losses.
  7. The announcers certainly aren't impressed by Beckman either. "It's the way these guys are coached. You can see the difference between the two teams."
  8. Ejection was warranted there. The Tim Beckman era can't end soon enough.
  9. And by "sweep", you mean lose all 3, correct? No, I like when my team wins. I have a hard time rooting for meaningless wins at this stage when they could mean the difference between the 2nd and the 3rd or possibly 4th pick. There is a decent chance that the difference between 2 and 4 will be negligible, but there is a 100% chance that any wins for the rest of the season are meaningless.

  11. I wish the Rockies would win a game or two. It looks like we're pretty safe to have a Top 3 pick, but the Rockies are going to be hard to beat out for #2.
  12. This is going to be a crazy late start if they do end up playing. What is the NL curfew these days?
  13. The old fake to third move. It works at least once a year and there it was.
  14. Yeah, he is. I still don't know if he provides enough offense to be an everyday player in a good lineup, but if the Cubs can find enough offense at other positions I'm perfectly fine with Barney holding down 2B.
  15. Gotta love the Rizzo thumbs-up to the camera when he found out that someone won a car because of his grand slam.
  16. Does anyone else have a problem with Keith Moreland being referred to as a former "Cubs great"?
  17. Wait a minute... Tony Campana hit fly ball near the OF wall? He was playing from the women's tees.
  18. A definite unexpected bright spot. He may not be an ace on a good staff, but he is a very good young 2 or 3 to build around.
  19. That was a relatively quick 8th. Let him finish it?
  20. And the revolving door of middle relievers claimed off waivers continues...
  21. I never noticed before, so I don't know if they do it every game, but that was a funny rendition of "Take On Me" by the Washington fans.
  22. Is Vitters reaching historically bad proportions now? I can't ever recall an offensive player looking so inept.
