  1. Michael Lorenzen tonight is: A) An unhittable pitcher B) A better hitter than anyone in the Cubs lineup C) All of the above
  2. He can try that, but he will miss the one guy sitting in the corner of the basement who is actually the brains of the entire operation.
  3. Just awful baserunning by Alcantara. He got bailed out on the previous play and then made another mistake on the next one.
  4. Oh man, that sucks. Stacey King was such a fun, enthusiastic announcer. A breath of fresh air for a team that has been mired in mediocrity for so long.
  5. It's almost like maybe Jed shouldn't have counted on a 39 year reliever being a key part of the bullpen.
  6. If they are still selling out all the games, do they really care though?
  7. Nobody does, which is why I assume this is a last ditch effort to build some leverage. Maybe if they REALLY start the process of moving to Indiana, then they will force someone into action to keep them in Illinois. It may or may not work. If it doesn't work, they may very well end up in Indiana even though they don't actually want to be there.
  8. If you think Alcantara is somehow an upgrade over Suzuki, you are in for a surprise.
  9. I don't know if this is a dead ass team, but it certainly is a boring ass team. Fits Jed's personality perfectly.
  10. The Cubs will finish the season with a better record, but the Sox are more fun to watch and may have a brighter future.
  11. That's kind of Jed's thing. Why pay 25-30 for a real top guy when you can pay 20 for a mediocre player that you can try to wish into a good season.
  12. The premise is flawed. Not all "top hitting prospects" are created equal. This is a weak system and the Cubs so-called top prospects are fringe Major League players, not future All-Stars.
  13. What has MLB done in recent history to make anyone believe their goal is to make things easier for fans? They are willing to splinter the TV rights across 10 different networks/services if it maximizes their revenue.
  14. I have no idea how much revenue small market teams get today, but guaranteeing them $240M seems crazy to me, especially when you are only "forcing" them to spend $150M. And then at the same time they continue to get other benefits of being small market/lower revenue teams.
  15. Counsell isn't getting fired this season, he isn't being replaced in the offseason, and the Cubs won't likely consider firing him next season either. But do we have any official info on how long Jed was extended for? If we assume this is the first year of a four year extension, he has 1-2 years before his seat gets really hot. If the Cubs don't make a serious run at the World Series in the next few years, Jed isn't going to let Counsell get to the end of his deal. If Counsell plays out the string through 2028, the timing would be right for the Cubs to clean house and put a new person in charge to make the next manager hire. All that to say, the timeline for Counsell to be fired is probably the end of NEXT season if the Cubs continue to underperform, or possibly the middle of the 2028 season. But, if the current trend continues, someone else on the staff has to go, and soon.
  16. JD couldn't even get "They don't have a lot if firepower in their lineup" out of his mouth before that happened.
  17. At least when the Cubs signed Heyward, he was 26 years old. They gambled that they could unlock something in his hitting and it just didn't work out. I still don't fault the move though. Alex Bregman is horsefeathers 32 and giving him a 5 year deal at that age seems to go against everything the Cubs have preached. I'm certainly not writing him off yet, but the arrow is pointing down.
  18. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/05/18/draftkings-closing-wrigley-field-sportsbook/ I can't imagine that Wrigley location staying open as just a sports bar with its current layout. It has a lot of TV's, but all the personality of an infield tarp. There is no reason anyone would go there over any of the other neighborhood bars. So what's next for that space?
  19. Why do we have to pretend Taillon did the team a huge favor by pitching... 5 innings? Be better.
