  1. What did you want him to do? This team has had one injury after another. Even as important as every game is now, the Cubs can't afford to overextend Darvish and lose him for the rest of the season. It sucks, but they just have to try to keep guys in one piece to get through the season.
  2. I just went back and checked Russell's career stats to try to figure out what happened to him and when his performance regressed... It turns out he has always been bad. I guess I bought into the hype and always thought his first couple seasons were better than what they really were. Sure he showed some flashes of power, but has a career OPS barely over 700. What did everyone see in him? I get that Maddon is putting him in the lineup now because there is no defensive alternative at SS, but there is no way he can even be with the team in Spring Training next year.
  3. Who would have thought CJ could be flipped for a useful bullpen piece?
  4. Why the hell is Kris Bryant going to LF with a bad knee in a 5-run game?
  5. 1) The wildcard is for losers 2) The Mets collapsing in spectacular fashion is ALWAYS a good thing. And if you want the Cubs to make the playoffs, you should probably root for the one team ahead of us in the wild card to beat a team that is within striking distance of us, since that team in front of us is in another division. The only WC team I'm concerned about at this point is the Phillies. Unless the Cubs completely horsefeathers the bed over next 4 weeks, I don't see anyone else catching them. The Phillies are a little too close for comfort though.
  6. Plenty of good seats still available for the September wild card push.
  7. Wow, completely overmatched there. Not that I should be surprised.
  8. Good pitch. Up to Heyward against a lefty, which should end well.
  9. Losing 3 games in the standings in 2 days is not ideal.
  10. Yep. The players suck too Right, and bringing in "MYSTERY MANAGER X" in late August isn't going to magically fix the hitters or the starters or the bullpen I'm not sure there is any freefall to be prevented here. This was a good team against a mediocre team, and it is pretty obvious which one is which.
  11. He’s been dog horsefeathers for quite some time now. All part of my plan to Make Extensions Affordable Again.
  12. It's cool to put nicknames on the jerseys and then make it so they are impossible to see.
  13. Lester should never be mentioned in that category. We always knew there would be a decline toward the end of the deal, and that decline has actually been relatively modest to this point. No matter what happens with him from here on out, he has lived up to his contract and more.
  14. You aren't wrong. Watching the rebuilding Cubs teams and enjoying the occasional sparks of hope was so much more fun than watching this bunch of underachieving clowns.
  15. I haven't been in the fire Maddon camp, and I still doubt that is the answer... But if Theo/Jed think there is any chance that could salvage the season, the move has to be made now.
  16. Man, I thought 1 hit would be enough to win this one.
  17. Has anyone else noticed Bryant's hair keeps looking more and more like Simpsons Don Mattingly?
