  1. I just received an email from my Season Ticket representative: I'm sure they are hoping for people to accept the credit with a 5% bonus and then be essentially locked into Season Tickets for next year, but with all the uncertainty around the schedule this year (and possibly beyond) that would seem like an unwise choice for anyone to make.
  2. 1. Mark Grace 2. Javy Baez 3. Kerry Wood 4. Dave Martinez 5. Andre Dawson 6. Jody Davis 7. Ryne Sandberg 8. Greg Maddux 9. Kris Bryant 10. Anthony Rizzo Honorable Mention: Kyle Hendricks, Ben Zobrist, Chico Walker
  3. The lack of baseball started to hit me today for the first time. With it being a relatively nice, sunny Sunday, I got outside and did a bit of cleaning and yardwork while the kids played in the front yard. It was the type of day where I would typically have radio on, listening to an afternoon Cubs game. This will likely be the first of many such days where everything "seems" normal in my little bubble, but obviously it isn't. All my summer routines are going to be completely different. Cubs radio broadcasts normally play in the background for much of my summer and it is going to be weird to possibly have an entire season without any baseball. I have resigned myself to the fact that any baseball in 2020 is highly unlikely, but until today I hadn't really processed what that would be like. All the usual disclaimers apply - There are more important things than baseball, etc. I get all that and fully understand, but it isn't going to make me miss it any less.
  4. So, Easter Sunday should be good right?
  5. I think they would try, but seriously, what happens when just one player tests positive and that puts an entire team into isolation for a week or more?
  6. I hate to be pessimistic, but until there is a vaccine available, I just don't see this going away. Hopefully the outbreaks can be managed once the initial surge has passed, but then there will likely be an extended period where certain areas go in and out of isolation. It is hard to imagine putting 40,000 people in a stadium together until next year at the earliest... Yeah, I wonder if we'll see an empty stadium solution as a way to get the season started sooner. Teams beginning to derive the majority of their revenue from TV contracts instead of tickets has had almost universally negative consequences, but maybe this is the positive? And then what happens when a single player tests positive and the entire schedule is thrown into chaos? There really are no easy answers.

  8. I certainly understand it, but this is going to be really, really weird. Moreso than any other sport, college basketball feeds off the fans.
  9. It seems that we are heading toward the very real possibility of games being played without fans in the stadiums, maybe for weeks or longer. It is crazy to imagine a scenario where that occurs AND at the same time 50% of households in the Chicago area can't watch the games on TV. This is really the perfect storm of events to relegate the Cubs to irrelevance, at least for a period of time. I wonder whether this might have any impact on the negotiations, or even if MLB might step in and temporarily lift their blackout restrictions.
  10. I was confident in Comcast getting a deal done for Marquee, but if Sinclair is attempting to bundle it together in a larger deal involving all their RSN's, that could really muddy the waters. I think it is pretty clear that the current RSN model is not sustainable, and providers are increasingly pushing back on carriage demands for those channels The question is, will this be the straw that breaks the camel's back and forces change, or will both sides cave enough to make a deal and kick the can down the road.
  11. What's the best way to get that from the internet to my Roku/TV? Enough experience getting it on a computer to know how to find them on reddit. i'm honestly not sure i also heard some guy call the score this morning and he said something about installing kodi on roku. i know very little about it but i'm sure the info is readily available. The other thing you can do is configure a VPN on a router and connect your streaming device (Roku) to that router. That will allow you to watch the games on MLB.tv - assuming you have an MLB.tv subscription. It takes a little bit of investment and work to setup, but I can vouch for it working very well. My setup is a 2nd router on my network with a VPN connected to a server in Mexico. Then I connect my Roku's to that router to stream games in market. I do have to reconfigure the router quite often (once a week-ish) to keep it connecting to the VPN servers, but it takes less than a minute to update each time. While it isn't ideal, it gets the job done if these companies can't get their act together by opening day.
  12. I can't like this enough. Does anyone really pay attention to the tickers anymore?
  13. They are sure doing a lot of patting each other on the back for a network that a majority of fans can't watch.
  14. I'm enjoying it. I mentioned before that I was a big Grace fan, but I will at least grant you that he is probably better tolerated in small doses. There are only so many Sandberg and Sutcliffe stories to go around.
  15. Much better than the old commercial break graphic, that's for sure! I'll take the "commerical break" graphic all day over them showing the exact same commercial every half inning I'm assuming there will be more variety once we get into the regular season... Previous day's highlights, etc.
  16. Much better than the old commercial break graphic, that's for sure!
  17. To be fair to Ortiz, he specifically called out Fiers for not saying anything while he was on the Astros and waiting until after he got the title to do so. Fiers shouldn’t be criticized for speaking out (better late than never) but I at least understand what Ortiz is saying here. Any other pitcher or the hitters who didn’t participate could have spoken up but didn’t so credit to Fiers for doing so. This is a ridiculous take, imo. If a guy actually called out the team while he was on it, even more people would cite his snitchiness. It's ridiculous to expect some mid-roster nobody to make that move while on the team. Exactly. If David Ortiz tells the team to stop, they stop. If Mike Fiers stands up and says something, nobody listens and he potentially ostracizes himself from the test of the team. I understand what Ortiz is saying, but he has to look at it from the perspective of other players who are just trying to keep a job.
  18. It will be the same as blackouts have been historically. The MLB.tv blackout rules are the same across the board regardless of network. Games involving your local market teams will be blacked out.
  19. I don't know if this was already common knowledge, but watching MLB Network coverage of the cheating scandal over the past few nights has revealed one thing... Eric Byrnes is a complete asshat.
  20. Off the field transgressions aside, Mark Grace is one of, if not my #1, all-time favorite Cubs. I hope he has his life together now and, if so, I'm glad he is getting another chance. I read something yesterday that said he would still be doing analysis for the Diamondbacks as well. I'm not sure how that could possibly work.
  21. I hate any idea with more teams in the playoffs. They are going to play 162 games and then let nearly half of the teams in the playoffs? I knew it was only a matter of time, but that doesn't make it any less stupid. Look at the NBA with teams 15 games under .500 still in the playoff race. Rewarding mediocre teams for the sake of a small bump in attendance isn't going to make the game any better.
  22. That swoosh looks really silly. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but if I was in the market for a jersey I would think twice before buying one of those.
  23. Does anyone know if Marquee broadcasts will be available online to authenticated users, like they were with NBC Sports?
  24. Fast forward two weeks, when no ruling has been made and "a decision is expected by the start of Spring Training "
