  1. I don't understand the experts who had Wisconsin projected as a 2 seed, but don't see any possibility of Illinois getting any higher than a 3. If (big if) Illinois were to win the Big 10 tournament, along with the regular season title, how can you not give them a 2 seed? If they lose in the Big 10 tournament, then they end up as a 3 or 4 depending on when they lose. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  2. That would seem to be a bad thing for the Cubs (and other large market teams), right? Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  3. That succinctly sums up the small market mentality Yup. Can’t have it both ways of being subsidized with draft picks, IFA, revenue sharing as a “small market” team and then also dictate how the teams that actually spend go about business. Don’t want teams to outspend you, first off don’t own a horsefeathering team, you have money and secondly if they spend less you should get less handouts too you [expletive] Let's say I'm racing horses, and I can't afford to buy a top tier horse, so I settle for a more affordable horse that is unlikely to win but still capable of making money. Should the owners of better, more expensive, horses have to subsidize me so that I can buy better horses in the future? Or should I recognize that I bought a cheaper horse? 4. I'm not even clear what happens in the hypothetical scenario where a deal is reached later this week and we end up with only 2 series cancelled. Does MLB simply lop off that portion of the schedule, creating schedule imbalances between teams, or do they cause chaos by creating an entirely new schedule? Or maybe option #3, extend the season a week and move the first two series to the end? My guess would be that option #3 would be on the table only for the immediate future, but as we get further along then the second option becomes the only one that is really viable.
  5. Harold Reynolds is embarrassing himself on MLB Network.
  6. Good thing Marquee Network has so much quality alternate programming.
  7. Harold Reynolds is on MLB Network calling for extending the deadline by a few hours to "get a deal done." Someone break it to Harold that they aren't that close.
  8. First, MLB sells a playoff package to ESPN that includes 14 teams. Then, they push the narrative that a deal is close so that they can turn around and accuse the players union of backing out. If anyone is not negotiating in good faith, it is the owners. Even if the players did come in today with a minor adjustment in tone, that is understandable given the previous day's marathon bargaining session. It is entirely possible that, after a little time away from the table, they realized they were compromising much more than the other side and needed to pull back the reigns.
  9. Sadly, there is too much money on the table for them not to go to 14 teams.
  10. I know they don't want to do it, but it's time for the players to walk away until the league is ready to negotiate in good faith.
  11. I don't understand limiting it to 4 teams. I say put every non-playoff team in the lottery with equal odds. Combine that with the expanded playoffs and there is virtually no motivation to lose games.
  12. Nothing of note happened today?
  13. Yeah, Howard's is fine, though I could see an argument for being out the rest of the year, not just regular season. Gard could have got one and it not been egregious, but I think 0 is right for him. But dudes throwing punches and only getting a game is nuts. Yep, I don't see how the punishment for throwing punches wasn't more than a game. There doesn't seem to be any consistency with how suspensions are handed out, and somehow Illinois always seems to be treated differently.
  14. I don't see it on Pocketcasts yet. Do you have an RSS link? I never heard of this app, but according to their website, you need a trailer plus one episode to be featured. It is showing up now. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk

  16. Of course. They have to. He slapped an assistant coach in the head. I don't care what excuse he has, nothing can justify his actions. And I'm sure there will be some player suspensions too. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  17. And they will be the garbage 7 inning games, using the excuse of a reduced spring training schedule to keep the 7 inning games and extra-innings baserunner in place. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  18. I like the idea too, but the problem is it penalizes teams whose starting pitcher gets injured or absolutely shelled early in the game. They already had an uphill battle to come back, and now they have to do it without their DH.
  19. Given that a 14 team playoff was and is on the table I can categorically state that 12 is not the worst. It's not good by any means but it's not the worst. Yeah, I can live with 12, considering the alternative. 40% of teams making the playoffs isn't great, but there's no stopping playoff expansion at this point. It is money on the table for both sides. 20. Has anyone heard what the status is of everyone's favorite stupid extra innings rule? I read an article this morning that suggested the new rule will most likely continue indefinitely, but I certainly hope that isn't the case. Out of all the changes that have been made and/or proposed, that is the one I hate the most.
  21. From Passan's tweet: Not to turn this thread political, but that problem extends beyond MLB. People in power seemingly prefer kicking the can down the road rather than finding compromises that a majority of people can live with.
  22. I like it. If Stroman gets hurt or underperforms, it's still only a short commitment that won't hurt the team long term. If he is good and the Cubs are bad, he's a valuable trade chip. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  23. Fangraphs projected 4/$84 at the beginning of the offseason Let's split the difference. I'll go with 5/110. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
  24. On the bright side, maybe there was an explanation for why he was so terrible last year.
