  1. Yeah, I think even MLB would step in to prevent him from hitting 756 outside SF. I mean, imagine the hostile reaction he could get. I don't think MLB/Bonds/SF would want that archived on film stock, how people really think of Bonds. Sad thing is, my buddy and I have tix for teh 7/18 game against SF. We were hoping to maybe see "it" happen, but probably not now. Oh, well!
  2. Geez. I can't freakin stand the showboater, but the guy is a no-doubter great defender. This is like judging Randy Johnson's career by how he pitches now. Just not fair, nor reasonable. And add to it, his brain is in scrambles, and we "hate him" and think he sucks. Geez... I guess we just can't recognize the he WAS good, and enjoy the fact that he's not raking or bringing in lots of extra base hits. And while playing shallow is stupid for most, Edmonds got away with it most of his career. On the plus side, he threw out lots of potential runs by playing so shallow, and even prevented some from running on him because of that shallow depth. Most typical basehits or run-scoring shots were taken away because of that strategy. Are we just jealous that we haven't had a decent CF in so long?
  3. Classic South Park... good stuff, CC! I used that example in class a few weeks ago to mock the poor planning of some groups, and they actually got it. Maybe I'm not that old?!
  4. The Cardinals haven't won the WS yet. Couldn't they lose it, and make the off-season all that more fun? A 3 game losing streak could turn into some "momentum," and we could make a turnaround ourselves. The Cardinals have won anything yet!
  5. Yeah, this thing ain't over. Can't Rogers go Friday? He'll have 4 days rest, so why not throw your best guy out there. STL is (foolishly) starting Weaver ahead of Reyes, so you know your offense can score a few runs. If the Tigers can get this thing out of the STL madhouse, they've got about an even shot, even with Carp going against Verlander. Get to game 7, and you've got either Reyes, or Suppan on mini-rest (2 days).
  6. I've thought that exact thing, Mojo. There's just something... "Cardinal-like" about all those 100-win and 95-win teams failing in the postseason, and seeing this turd of a team win it all. I have no logical explanation, either, but I've just had this really bad feeling that they were going to do it ever since the rainouts in NLCS Game 1 helped them line up their rotation.
  7. All I'm saying, is that I wouldn't complain a bit about a guy's paycheck if he hits a Pennant Winning HR. I understand baseball is a lot more complicated and requires many factors agreeing to propel a team that far, but would you complain if the Cubs paid CLee $26 mil per year, and he ends up hitting a shot like that? Does it really matter what salary looks like if your team just got into the World Series like that? Sure, he may get paid too much, but hitting a walkoff in a spot that a lot would fail in validates any overspending, IMO. I'm not saying assembling a team full of the most obscure clutch hitters wins a WS, but if someone does that for your team, I'm pretty sure you're not complaining about a stat or dollar sign in the world.
  8. 16 million for an .827 OPS? no thanks. For a clutch, Pennant Winning HR? Yes, Please. An .827 OPS in right field probably won't allow you to get to that situation in the first place. Umm... didn't exactly that just happen?
  9. 16 million for an .827 OPS? no thanks. For a clutch, Pennant Winning HR? Yes, Please.
  10. So does this mean Carpenter starts Game 1? Why do I have this growing feeling that the Cardinals are going to snake into the World Series?
  11. What, like our "Bud Light Bleachers" are any better? And this does help the white sox by bringing in more money. Whether it's spent on a player or whatever, it's more money. That does help, right?
  12. More retirements than wins, too. And a sneaking suspicsion that he's not all-natural.
  13. Page 2 has a great read on why the Cards have to lose: My favorite: Oops! Edit: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=neel/060929
  14. Sad thing is, as the Cards collapse (Carp just gave up 2 more, 6-5 Padres), it really means nothing. It's not like this is the 04 or 05 Cards that had a legit shot at winning it all. Seeing those teams collapse would have been great fun. Watching this team crumble means nothing, since they'll do it next week against the Dodgers or Padres in the LDS anyway. All this inevitable collapse means is denying another Division Championship for STL. Not quite as devastating, considering the crap year this division is. Hell, I think STL would prefer an embarassing regular season finale as opposed to a humiliating postseason appearance. And this is nothing like the '69 Cubs. That team was good, and coulda/shouda/woulda won it all. Again, this Cards team probably couldn't win the International or Pacific League Championships!
  15. I don't think that's more than an obvious statement. He has an injury history with the Giants, too, doesn't he? They clearly rushed him back, a la Wood/Prior, and while "killed" may be an exaggeration, it's not like they're jumping for joy.
  16. Heck, at this point, it's still a perfect game. 6 IP 67 Pitches 2 K 0 BB Caberra, Guerrero, and Anderson due up. And a line shot right at Konerko. Is this guy going to get all the breaks?
  17. You don't need to listen all that closely. Oh, really? http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=78730 I'm actually a little suprised at their response.
  18. Reynolds was certainly tolerable. It's not so much the main group of analysts (even Kruk has something good to say occaisionally), it's the programming of the show that sucks. Waaaaay too much time spend over analyzing and discussing... just show me some baseball please! Does anyone find it odd that ESPN cans this guy, yet lets another slip by with a slap on the wrist for a drug possesion arrest? I can't believe it, personally.
  19. Not possible: his head hasn't grown ten sizes. Look at the growth of Barry, Sammy, McGwire and Tony Gwynn's melons over the years. I'm sorry... Tony Gwynn?! Sure his melon might be big, but he's big all-"around."
  20. The Yankee logo is more of a symbol than a sign of fandom. Lots of people kick Red Sox and Cubs clothes, and probably know very little about the teams. It's all about fashion, and the Yankee cap and logo (amongst others) is very cool. They've won 26 World Championships and like 45 pennants. There's an aura of class and legendary stories and players behind them... I can understand why a symbol representing that would be cool and why people would want to associate themselves with it. You don't see very many people wearing D-Backs or Royals hats, do you? Deal with it, buddy. And Big Pun wore a Pirates cap during the late 90's and early 2000's. Because his name began with a P, get it? Should we hate his dead legacy, too?
  21. I'm not shilling for anyone. I'm just seeing more and more Cub "fans" dogging the Sox, and it makes us look bad. We've rarely had to worry about the Sox and their fans, but all of a sudden a bunch of us are acting like the spoiled kids who stop getting attention. I don't like it, and I'm just trying to make it how obvious it is. I wish I had something more positive to shill about.
  22. Can we stop with the "our 2003 team was good" garbage. We got hot at the righ time, but only won 88 games. That's not powerful. If anything, the 2004 collapse was much worse, as that team was better. Didn't it even have a better record? It's the collapse of the last 2 years that has been so horrible, though we were never even on that high of a pedistal to fall from. Only our expecations were lofty, not a team performance.
  23. What's with all the Sox hate? Obsessed much? Jealous much?
  24. slick and soapy - how many other players did we think had integrity? How many others have denied the use of steroids, gotten angry when accused, and said how bad it is publicly? ndistops is right. He seems to be the only one who's escaped scrutiny. Not saying he did, but just questioning why he slipped by while everyone else at the hearing has been accused.
