  1. Jesus, this is getting annoying. He didn't suck? Murton is an above average LFer... it's not his fault Lou is a crappy manager and put the guy with the better arm in LF.
  2. Murton does the most important thing for a baseball player more often than anybody on this team besides DLee and as well as Aramis. This very second, he is a more complete offensive player than Floyd or Jacque, so I don't see how you can say he wont produce enough offensively.
  3. I'm not a big fan of West Coast games. I have a test first thing tomorrow morning, so I get to choose between watching the whole game or getting to bed early enough I can get a good night's sleep in and leave some time to review in the morning.
  4. This game isn't going to be worth stealing bandwidth for. What if I look at nekkid ladies too? Well dude, that is probably what got you shut down for the "excessive download". Maybe you should get a new baseball team and get a girlfriend. Now if I could only heed my own advice......... Interestingly enough, I'm more likely to look at nekkid ladies online when I'm dating somebody... I hope that information serves you well. I find theres little fluctuation. I used to be that way, but now I don't feel like demeaning women until I have one of my own.

  7. The jackholes running the internet connections for my apartment complex shut me down for "excessive download" recently, but that wont stop me from stealing bandwidth from the neighbors to take in a game with you folks.
  8. Murton's career numbers: .298/.364/.449 That's good for a .813 OPS... All that even factoring in his mediocre production in sporadic playing time this year. So yeah, I think those are his numbers.
  9. The following response is an exerpt from BP's Nate Silver chat yesterday.
  10. Of course he has. When you're dealing with this organization expect anything possible..anything. Yes. Closer though -- this is no middle relief role. As closer, Guzman's talents could benefit us as much or more than as a 5th starter who only makes it on the field 2, 3 times a month. The big problem is, I don't think we've got a good 5th starter option right now. I guess the plan is to hope Marshall will be good enough for a couple starts, then Dempster will be ready. That sounds pretty flaky to me, but then again my job's not on the line Lou's is. If Guzman isn't vintage Eric Gagne, he's nowhere near as valuable as a closer as he would be as an above average fifth starter.
  11. I've been saying all along it would've made more sense to snag Percival and see if he can't be an 8th inning guy than demote Gooz to the pen.
  12. Ooh, a 'back injury' would be awfully convenient right about now. The player would have to agree to somethign like that no? not if they hire someone to hit him in the back with a steel chair You've been reading "The Idiot's Guide to Becoming Tonya Harding" again, haven't you?
  13. Rotoworld also says they're having Demp groom Gooz to be the closer while Demp stretches his arm out to become a starter.
  14. What are you talking about? I still remember the Y2J countdown.
  15. Wow, I guess it's a good thing we decided to use Cotts instead of our freaking LOOGY.
  16. To be fair, Mitre has given up 15 R, but only 8 are counted as ER. Something tells me he got lucky one of his boys gave up an error right when he was ready to implode on himself like normal.
  17. Hendry's extension? That's number one on the short list. Signing Baker? That's on there too. Nolasco and Mitre for Pierre? Nolasco, Pinto, and Mitre for Pierre. And Corey Patterson for Nate Spears. Since CPatt outperformed Pierre last year, the deal is looking awfully more and more lopsided.
  18. Gooz has been every bit as good as Marshall in their minor league careers... this despite the fact that Gooz has been nursing some nasty injuries and spending more of his time rehabbing than Marshall has. Gooz has better raw stuff than Marshall does, and by a very large margin. All the scouting reports I've seen are unanimous that Angel Guzman has a much, much higher ceiling than Sean Marshall. Now don't get me wrong, I don't have any intense or irrational hatred of Sean Marshall. I think he seems like a nice guy and has the potential to be a valuable asset to our staff. But seeing as how the numbers, the stuff, and the scouts all seem to agree that Gooz is better, Sean Marshall simply isn't likely to be more successful than Gooz. Could it happen? Sure it could, but you'd have to attribute that more to sheer luck than any stroke of genius.
  19. Just out of sheer morbid curiosity, who are all these supposed premium memberships going to?
  20. Yeah, he's had em before.
  21. I know Lou hasn't used the pen in optimal fashion, but he didn't "create" the problem. Eyre, Ohman and Howry have stunk in nearly every situation they have been brought into, particularly Eyre. But I agree, the decision to stick Gooz back in the pen is piss poor one. Eyre has been horrible... that one was predictable, but I suppose that falls on Hendry. Ohman has done a very solid job as a LOOGY. It's Lou's fault that he's using him against righties too. For all the complaints about Howry, he's not been especially bad... the problem has been that his league-average performance has come during highly leveraged situations... and Lou is the one who puts him in there.
  22. Not a bad idea, but try Murton instead and it might get done. I'd much rather hold on to Murton, thanks.
  23. This is about the dumbest idea the Cubs could have come up with, so I was sure this was the "shake-up" they were talking about from the get-go. Gooz is just finally getting back into his stride after all the injury concerns, and showing he can be that guy that posted the 40:0 SO:W rate in 30 IP. But simply because Lou doesn't know how to deploy his bullpen, Gooz gets moved in there. This sort of thing is exactly why my optimism was tempered even when Lou was saying all the right things back in the offseason and during spring training. It's one thing to talk a good game, but Lou just doesn't deliver tactically. He's a bad manager... using a bad solution to a problem he created through his own incompetence.
  24. FWIW, Patterson outperformed Juan Pierre by a good margin last year... only making all the trading look worse.
  25. FWIW, the home plate ump has perhaps the tightest zone in the history of the game, and the Cubs keep making stupid mistakes. It's not a fun game to watch.
