  1. Hendry's extension? That's number one on the short list. Signing Baker? That's on there too. Nolasco and Mitre for Pierre? Nolasco, Pinto, and Mitre for Pierre. And Corey Patterson for Nate Spears. Since CPatt outperformed Pierre last year, the deal is looking awfully more and more lopsided.
  2. Gooz has been every bit as good as Marshall in their minor league careers... this despite the fact that Gooz has been nursing some nasty injuries and spending more of his time rehabbing than Marshall has. Gooz has better raw stuff than Marshall does, and by a very large margin. All the scouting reports I've seen are unanimous that Angel Guzman has a much, much higher ceiling than Sean Marshall. Now don't get me wrong, I don't have any intense or irrational hatred of Sean Marshall. I think he seems like a nice guy and has the potential to be a valuable asset to our staff. But seeing as how the numbers, the stuff, and the scouts all seem to agree that Gooz is better, Sean Marshall simply isn't likely to be more successful than Gooz. Could it happen? Sure it could, but you'd have to attribute that more to sheer luck than any stroke of genius.
  3. Just out of sheer morbid curiosity, who are all these supposed premium memberships going to?
  4. Yeah, he's had em before.
  5. I know Lou hasn't used the pen in optimal fashion, but he didn't "create" the problem. Eyre, Ohman and Howry have stunk in nearly every situation they have been brought into, particularly Eyre. But I agree, the decision to stick Gooz back in the pen is piss poor one. Eyre has been horrible... that one was predictable, but I suppose that falls on Hendry. Ohman has done a very solid job as a LOOGY. It's Lou's fault that he's using him against righties too. For all the complaints about Howry, he's not been especially bad... the problem has been that his league-average performance has come during highly leveraged situations... and Lou is the one who puts him in there.
  6. Not a bad idea, but try Murton instead and it might get done. I'd much rather hold on to Murton, thanks.
  7. This is about the dumbest idea the Cubs could have come up with, so I was sure this was the "shake-up" they were talking about from the get-go. Gooz is just finally getting back into his stride after all the injury concerns, and showing he can be that guy that posted the 40:0 SO:W rate in 30 IP. But simply because Lou doesn't know how to deploy his bullpen, Gooz gets moved in there. This sort of thing is exactly why my optimism was tempered even when Lou was saying all the right things back in the offseason and during spring training. It's one thing to talk a good game, but Lou just doesn't deliver tactically. He's a bad manager... using a bad solution to a problem he created through his own incompetence.
  8. FWIW, Patterson outperformed Juan Pierre by a good margin last year... only making all the trading look worse.
  9. FWIW, the home plate ump has perhaps the tightest zone in the history of the game, and the Cubs keep making stupid mistakes. It's not a fun game to watch.
  10. Wow, did the ump actually call a strike? I didn't think he was allowed to do that for Lilly.
  11. Guzman needs to keep starting. I don't understand the Guzman for reliever suggestions. Guzman has a helluva lot more talent than Sean Marshall. my guzman for reliever suggestion stems from the ML leading 11 losses by our worthless bullpen. I agree he has a world of talent and will probably can be a really good starter. However, he's been just as good if not better as a reliever, why not have him sure up a few victories? just a suggestion, i won't be upset either way as long as he pitches regularly, whether it be starting or relief. Because a good starter is always more valuable than a good reliever?
  12. That's a pretty good start to the inning.
  13. Lilly is getting squeezed real hard by the home plate ump.
  14. Just so long as the surprise isn't something stupid like making Z the closer...
  15. Why waste a pinch hitter, right? I mean, really. If the Mets score 9 to tie this game back up we might need Murton later.
  16. I love the fact they leave Z in to bat.
  17. Lou does not trust the bullpen. You'd think carrying all these damned extra relievers would give him a few more he'd be comfortable with. The team dropped down to 11 today-that probably is in the back of his mind. Z needs to come out-now. Earl Weaver used to use 9 or 10 man pitching staffs and a 4 man rotation. Then again, Earl Weaver is probably the best manager of all time...

  19. more like self-lobotomy time Way ahead of you. I already sterilized the eggbeater. Fancy boy, a 2x4 will do the trick. I prefer the power drill Incidentally, I thought Pi was a really crappy movie.
  20. I'd let him finish the inning, just for his confidence. Edit: I might let him bat next inning too, but just for fun.

  22. And Jacque with the double! 9-1
