  1. Have you ever had a measured reaction to anything? They called up Pagan because they assume he will hit LHP because he is a switch hitter yet was horrible vs. lefties last season. Again I say, this organization is a complete joke. I'll take that as a no. Please, inform me and my un-measured reaction, why calling up Pagan is a good move? He hits LHP no better than Pie, and is fraction of the defensive player that Pie is. If Pagan hit LHP well than I could see it. The key to the move is sending Pie back to AAA to play everyday. Pagan is far from ideal. But Pie had to get off the bench. Of course. There is no reason to have the Cubs best prospect sitting on the bench when he needs to be getting regular at bats. He was clearly overmatched at the plate at the major league level so starting him regularly would have hurt the team. Pagan is going to be a part time player and like you said, he has hit LHP pretty well in AAA this year. It's the right move to make. I don't think you can say Pie was "clearly overmatched" when the only thing clear was that he wasn't getting enough PA to get going.
  2. but, but he's carlos beltran jr.! And has beaten Jose Reyes in a footrace.
  3. I'm on board, just so long as Pagan is used in the same role Pie was, and not really any more than that.
  4. Actually, I expected myself to swear in my first reaction. I'm so proud of past-Rob's restraint.
  5. http://www.peeyourpantsforthebrewers.com/ As of right now, 199 people have pledged to pee their pants when the Brewers make the playoffs. It's gross, and just the sort of thing I think all of you will enjoy mocking and/or one-upping.
  6. It's possible to win with a minimal payroll on a consistent basis only if your GM makes better moves than those GMs with larger payrolls. You think the small or mid market payrolls inherited by Billy Beane, Mark Shapiro, and John Schuerholz don't have an impact on their performance? All of them have been forced to exploit the weaknesses of their fellow GMs in order not only to survive, but to thrive. Small payrolls make you an underdog. Larger payrolls are expected to produce results more consistently than small ones. Period.
  7. How did you think Jeff Weaver was going to pitch this season? I was completely wrong on that. I will always have that Weaver fan in me. I think they have a surgery for that... Lobotomy? Appendectomy. When he's crawling around in there he always ends up clinging onto the useless organ... I can't imagine why.
  8. You chose the wrong Ortiz. I have Russ Ortiz as my second pitcher, and he has positive 19. I have Podsednik on my team as well, along with Lew Ford (both zero points). If not for those two black holes I might be in the top 10 nationally. I debated going with Russ, but I figured (correctly) that Lincecum would force him out pretty fast. The Twins on the other hand have a nasty habit of making the same mistake til the trade deadline. I probably should have gone with Ponson.

  10. #341 with a 108 ESPN Ausmus - 7 Casey - 17 Biggio - 4 Figgins - 15 Everett - 30 Pods - 0 Erstad - 15 Winn - 5 McCarthy - 30 Ramon Ortiz - (-15) Freaking Ramon Ortiz and Scotty Pods... they're usually such good bets.
  11. I'll grant you were much more optimistic about this signing than most of us were. But something tells me a 1.70 ERA isn't how you expected him to pitch.
  12. Rob

    A trade

Great trade for you. Berkman is a 1st or 2nd round talent that you bought very low, and Maggs is a 8th-10th round talent that you sold very high. The slight bump down from Cano to Phillips is nothing compared to that.
  13. The Splendid Splinter, right?
  14. jones was .250 against lefties starting the game. i'm sure pie was worse Jones at .250 was well overperforming his career numbers. Pie's career numbers are inconsequential because Lou doesn't play him enough to get rid of the tiny sample size.
  15. The sad thing is Lou obviously knows Jacque can't hit lefties, or else he wouldn't have bat him 8th.
  16. Ignoring the irony of my current predicament... was that ball four?
  17. And now I can't take my left hand off my crotch since Murt got a hit while I was scratching. Don't be surprised when its a while between posts. Damn superstitions...
  18. Hey fellas, don't look now but we're only about 140 pages behind last night's game thread. Think we can pull it off before the game is over?
  19. Soriano hit a lead off homer, and nobody has done anything since for either team Has marquis been as good as his line indicates? DLee snagged a couple line drives and another was hit right at Aramis... but that's about it as far as the defense really picking him up.
  20. I dunno. I can't switch to Gameday and I'm having a complete brain cramp about who's coming up next. Have we had a CG this year yet?
  21. And dial down the intensity? I think not.
  22. Are you kidding me? Getting airborne gets rid of any chance a sudden earthquake, volcanic eruption, or any sort of seismic event would throw off his balance and force him to miss the ball.
  23. If they were expected to do it, Len and Bob would be too... and I like listening to people who are rooting for my team. That's part of why I hate Joe Morgan so much...
