  1. In Christina Kahrl's chat on BP, she said that apparently the draft is being slowed down to about five minutes per pick in the first round. No details on whether that applies to the supplemental first round and beyond, though...
  2. Well yes frankly it is a little hard to understand. He makes the Cubs better to have in CF then to not have him in CF. Who is going to out produce him? Pie is very questionable offensively and I don't see Soriano moving back there. Plus, I don't have a whole lot of faith in Hendry getting anything of value for him. So, for everyone that wants him traded, what do you think we could get? (reasonably) Pie is only questionable cause Lou isn't find him enough at bats. Even at that, he's 9 for his last 30 and he's got the potential to be better than Jacque with the bat right now. Bottom line is, moving to Pie in center really isn't a downgrade when factoring in defense... and there's more upside there for Pie. Meanwhile, Jacque is playing better than we can reasonably expect him to for the rest of the season, and we may be well served to see what we could get for him on the open market. Nobody here is suggesting that we just ship him off to whoever wont make us pay most of the contract... but if we can get a decent offer there is absolutely no reason not to trade him. He's redundant.
  3. I don't have a huge problem with the way Lou has been deploying his bench. It's supposed to be a strength of the team (for once) and Lou is trying to use it to maximum value. I do wish he'd show more restraint with the bullpen, though. If puts Pie out in CF in the 7th inning, he can stay there through 22 innings, if need be. The same can not be said of our relievers. I'm not too comfortable the way we always go into the 9th with maybe two or three relievers available for the rest of the game.
  4. He and Coats are both listed on the Cubs.com 40 man roster.
  5. Then Prior's FA clock is ticking again. Don't care. Prior will not be in a position to demand a huge contract. Or we could just DFA Pagan to get him off the 40 man.
  6. Yeah, I've noticed this as well. This article seems to suggest otherwise, but I've always gotten that impression from Gammons' articles. I get the distinct impression that he's fed misinformation by every GM out there because they know he'll report it. They cover for that by telling him about crap like Rothschild giving him a book.
  7. Well, the arm used to belong to Abe. Seriously - the hand belongs to some zookeeper in Thailand. They tranquilized the croc and sewed the zookeeper's arm back on. Neat.
  8. he said since he came back last year, not this year. Do I still have to eat an alligator? The gator misread your post. * I'll remove that if it's too graphic for some people, but it was all over network tv. ** And that's a croc, not a gator. All over network tv? Who's arm is it?
  9. he said since he came back last year, not this year. Do I still have to eat an alligator? Just half... your choice of front or back.
  10. Too optimistic to be a Cubs fan? Screw you, man. This is exactly the type of mentality that's been plaguing this franchise for 99 years. Why not be optimistic? We have a good team on paper, we have momentum, we were playing the dregs of the league with the Nationals. Why not a good road trip and a sweep? "Screw you, man" is not an appropriate response. Sorry man, but I just got so angry. Don't let me fool you; I have no authority whatsoever here. No need to apologize to me.
  11. You don't get ESPN?

  13. Not a bad idea, except where would The Riot play? I think, in my opinion, that there's no need to move The Riot, considering how well he's been performing. Again, the entire idea is predicated on the idea that Theriot will come back down to earth sometime.
  14. If you'd rather decrease win expectancy slightly in order to allow the team to conform more closely to archaic and antiquated views about lineup construction, I suppose that's a tradeoff that you can decide whether you'd like to make. Personally, I will root for the team to win, even if it necessitates the employ of unconventional tactics. Me too, but I don't think this would help the Cubs win. At all. Even sac bunts can be useful if used correctly. This is no different.
  15. And Winn doubles to right. I've got both Hamels and Lincecum going for me tonight, and I'm already happy that I can afford to give up 12 runs over the next 11.2 innings and still win ERA.
  16. Then he recovers to strikeout Utley and Howard.
  17. Vizquel and Durham. Damn home run hurts.
  18. I think that's more of a knock on Clint Hurdle and his Steve Finley fetish than anything else.
  19. Bonds isn't playing. Bonds isn't playing, and they just did a 5 minute Barry intro. I think that rises to the level of a  Well, certainly wouldn't be appropriate. Everybody knew it was coming, despite the stupidity of it.
  20. You can thank me and UMFan for starting the game threads. I'll wait until the end of the season to see if you're still making them before I thank you.
  21. Bonds isn't playing. WHAAA? Hamels is left-handed, genius. And Lincecum has to prove he can win without Barry to be accepted as a member of the AARP.
  22. Basing your decision on the last 250 PA by Theriot may be a bit foolish considering his minor league track record. Yes, I realize that he fairly recently stopped switch hitting, but absolutely nothing in his track record suggests he's a .300 hitter... most projection systems see him hitting in the .260 to .270 range with no power. I have no problem riding him while he's hot, but at some point he will turn back into a pumpkin. At that point, the difference in offense between Floyd/Murton and Theriot may very well justify the defensive downgrades when pitchers like Lilly and Hill are on the mound. Their high strikeout, flyball approach to pitching makes the defensive downgrades in the infield mean much, much less.
  23. I've got both Hamels and Lincecum on my fantasy team. I need them to combine for 11.2 IP, 9 K, and 1 W for me to pull off a come-from-behind victory. You can bet I'm paying real close attention to this game.
