  1. Lineups don't really matter, it's about getting the right players into the lineup. But I wonder, I know it says "best" and "worst" lineups, but does this actually account for Dusty Baker level bad lineup construction? We'd be talking Dusty, but batting the pitcher first.
  2. I was under the impression there was about 9.5 runs scored per game last year. Wouldn't that work out pretty closely? At any rate, IIRC, Tom Tango came up with an estimate of about 2.5 wins. I'll go check The Book later though.
  3. I'm sorry to hear that. Are there treatments available? Not much, short of sucking on the business end of a Colt .45
  4. Really? Cause the Padres are in desperate need of OFers, and the Cubs have Pie to offer up.
  5. I'd think if we don't get the trade done in the next couple hours, it'd probably wait til Christmas... but I doubt it gets squashed either way.
  6. USS said Petrick in another tread. Didn't they move Veal to the pen? I think we've still got O'Malley who wouldn't kill us for a few starts if we needed him.
  7. Theriot. Khalil Greene will start No offense to you in particular, but why is everyone so nuts about the average SS Khalil Green? 1. He's above average. 2. Even if he were merely average, that would represent a very significant improvement over Theriot.
  8. Everybody over at Orioles Hangout is convinced that they're gonna spin Scott back to us in the Roberts trade... netting them Pie, Gallager, and another prospect. 2B - Roberts CF - Fukudome 1B - Lee 3B - Ramirez LF - Soriano RF - Scott C - Soto SS - Theriot If the Astros non-tendered Everett, I could get behind that team going out there everyday.
  9. If everett is non-tendered because of this... I'd love to pick him up. And boy does it pain me to say that.
  10. Adam Everett should have been out of the job even without the Tejada trade. adam everett is leaps and bounds ahead of theriot. hes an average shortstop. yes average, not bad. basically who is the taller midget? They are both utter garbage. did you not read half of my post?h I'd like to know on what planet Everett is considered an average SS? The one where he's the best defensive shortstop on the planet by a wide margin. He's one of the few whose glove actually covers his bat.
  11. Thank god. Hopefully this kills rickroll.
  12. Yeah, most studies say the difference between the absolute best, and the absolute worst (which no manager even comes close to) is about 2.5 wins a season.
  13. Wow... that's a fat load of nothing for Tejada.
  14. Also, interestingly enough, the contract has a provision forcing Toronto to pay for eight round-trips per season between Toronto and Burnett's home in Maryland... by limousine. I guess it's for his wife.
  15. For what it's worth, Burnett is making 12 million each of the next three seasons, and has one of those nasty opt-out clauses after this one. Scenario A: Burnett stays healthy. He opts out after the season when we're wanting to keep him. Scenario B: Burnett gets injured. He does not opt out and we're on the hook for another two seasons and 24 million. I can certainly see why his trade value would be lowered with that horrible contract.
  16. At this point, I'm seriously debating whether or not I should start backing a Jack Wilson acquisition... that's how sad it's gotten.
  17. Agreed. But this is fairly close to the package he's supposedly already been willing to give up.
  18. Ya know, I could kiss you right now. Instead, let me just offer up a heartfelt thanks, though. I figure I owe you at least that much.
  19. I'd love to hear a reputable source confirm... but I'm feeling a lot better right now.
  20. At the same time, the Cubs aren't exactly getting back top stars or top prospects. Coletti has no plans for Ethier right now, and Roberts isn't exactly Chase Utley. He's a marginal upgrade over the guy we got off the FA market for 4 mil a season.
  21. Everybody else gets to make three-way trade proposals... I thought I'd try my hand. Cubs get Roberts, Ethier Dodgers get Bedard, Tejada, Murton Orioles get Pie, Kemp, McDonald, Gallagher, LaRoche, Hu That'd leave the teams looking like this... Cubs: C - Soto 1B - Lee 2B - Roberts 3B - Ramirez SS - Theriot LF - Soriano CF - Fukudome (assuming we get him) RF - Ethier SP1 - Z SP2 - Lilly SP3 - Hill SP4 - Marquis SP5 - Dempster/Marshall Dodgers: C - Martin 1B - Nomar 2B - Kent 3B - Tejada SS - Furcal LF - Pierre CF - Jones RF - Murton SP1 - Penny SP2 - Bedard SP3 - Billingsly SP4 - Schmidt SP5 - Lowe Orioles: C - Hernandez 1B - Millar/Moore 2B - ??? 3B - LaRoche SS - Hu LF - Kemp CF - Pie RF - Markakis The Orioles rotation would still be in shambles, but Gallagher and McDonald would be working their way up. Thoughts? I debated a few changes, so any constructive criticism is welcome.
  22. Bruce posted in the Fukudome trade that he hasn't heard anything about this.
  23. We get a PTBN or cash don't we if he signs for less than his last contract? I don't even know that he has to sign for less. I think the CBA prohibits that kind of stipulation for a trade... as I understand it, the only real caveat was that he had to still be on the Twins roster at a specified date. Though of course, the Twins would have never signed him if it didn't mean a pay cut.
