  1. 38 non-premium pages before the game even starts. Is that a new record?
  2. You could teach them the subtle difference in "abusing a broken system" versus outright "cheating."
  3. Because 26 yr old career minor league relievers are impossible to find? Leo Rosales has good #s, but seriously. Ones projected to have an OPS over 800 are hard to find.
  4. I think I might've found a nice place by O'Hare for still relatively cheap. Gonna have to see if my friend is willing to go halfsies on it, but that shouldn't be too hard. Looks like I'm probably in.
  5. if ANY Cub gets a ring this year, I will hardly complain, let alone vilify Marquis. like it or not, Marquis helped get you to this point. he deserves a spot on the roster, as others have said. is he good? no. but he paid his dues early on this year. Marquis picked up the slack for 'bad Z' early on. how quickly we forget... Marquis hasn't done anything since May. Yeah, overall he's been a decent help in getting us to where we are, but by no means does that make him the best choice of a roster spot for the playoffs. Monroe, Marshall, and even Ohman would probably end up coming in handy much moreso than Marquis will this series.
  6. I'm staying at a cheap motel not far from Wrigley. It's only costing me $65 a night. Of course, I think I'm going to bring my own sheets. At that price, I'm not sure what the bed will look like. What's the name of the hotel? Sheffield House. Dear god, I'm reading some reviews of that place online now. It's scaring me.

  8. Does anybody know if there are still relatively cheap hotels available for saturday night? If so, I'm in.
  9. Hahahaha, i love it. strange thing is, after stating Kendall has no use, he goes on to describe two of the roles that Kendall helps fill off the bench and that those abilities are handy against a team like the DBacks. It was more of a quip than anything else.
  10. Actually, BP's preview today predicted this bench, and had this to say about it.
  11. Is there any chance that this actually happens? (I don't mean this to come off as an insult. This is a genuine question.) Yeah, there is. But it's much more likely Hendry trades Pie for Tejada and then signs Torii Hunter. I don't know, with the payroll increase the would come with adding Tejada and Hunter, you could have ARod for marginally more. And with the offensive boost that ARod would bring, Pie could get his shot with minimal risk. Tejada is declining, and I don't think Hunter's 2007 numbers are at all indicative of his future production. I don't agree with it either. I'm just mentioning that Hendry tends to pursue "his guys" endlessly. And Tejada and Hunter are both "his guys" and available.
  12. Soto/Kendall > Miller/Bako DLee > Karros/Simon DeRosa > Grudz Aramis = Aramis Theriot = AGon Soriano > Alou Jacque < Lofton Floyd/Murton < Sosa I like our position players a bit better this time around.
  13. The next big Japanese import. He can play CF and has some nice potential at the plate. He profiles more as a RF than a CF.

  15. Ideally, we'd cut Marquis in favor of Monroe or Ohman... or even Marshall. But it's not a big deal. Good to see Cedeno make the roster... much less excited about Fontenot.
  16. Let's be completely honest here; they will anyway. No matter which team wins, it will be attributed to pitching, defense, and manufacturing runs. In the case of those things that the winning team didn't do especially well, the phrase will include the words "just enough".
  17. Really? Marshall made four consecutive starts where he allowed only 1 or 2 runs from July 5th to July 28th. He then had two rough starts where he got knocked around on August 2nd and 7th. But in his following four starts, he had an ERA of 3.20, and was subsequently pulled from the rotation (except for that spot start in the 2nd game of the Cards doubleheader, two weeks after his last start). Don't let the fact that Lou kept pulling him early cloud your judgement. He simply wasn't pitching that badly. When you get down to it, there was absolutely no good reason to pull him from the rotation.
  18. It's too bad, too, since Braun's vorp is a whole 22 points higher than Tulo's. Tulowitzki's WARP3 is 10.2. Braun's is 5.3. The difference in defensive value between a gold glove caliber SS and the kind of play at 3B that has a player almost invariably moved off the hot corner in very short order is quite striking. The Davenport Translations have Tulo 29 runs above average at short, and Braun 21 runs below average at 3B. It more than covers the gap on their offense.
  19. You better be if I was. To be fair, all of this has gotten so ridiculous that each time I see one of his posts, I laugh til I cry. You aren't nearly as funny, which makes you more expendable than MurtonFan. Yes OMC, MurtonFan is more important to the enjoyment of the people on the boards than you are. Now go cry yourself to sleep. I could give a turtle's turd sandwich what you think. See, that's funny, but it's not as funny as being completely oblivious for 10 pages.
  20. I don't know that you can really have a 2nd favorite in the NL unless you were raised in a split household. AL teams are fine to root for, but not somebody you're actively fighting with for most of the season.
  21. Since most people paid with credit cards, I'd assume they'd just refund the credit card and not even require you to mail the tickets back. That's just my guess though.
  22. Being a stat-head, I'm accused enough of trying to take out the human element of the game. I'm fine with the occassional bad call from umpires though, seeing as how they tend to even out over the course of the season.
  23. Marshall posted a sub 4.00 ERA. He's pretty much an upgrade at the back end of the rotation for almost every single team in the league. The Braves aren't one of the exceptions. Smoltz Hudson James Jo-Jo Reyes? ???
  24. Does anyone else smell a bit of a suspension or something coming for McClelland(sp?)?? Or at least being unable to ump the rest of the playoffs?? Extremely hard to tell, maybe his hand got in as it was coming out from under Barrett's foot, but sure didn't look like it. In the end, I think Colorado probly wins it, but still... WOW!! McClellan wont be getting suspended for one blown call. He's still the best ump in the game.
  25. No, he didn't. He blocked it perfectly. McClellan blew the call.
