  1. No kidding. Easily above average at all 3 OF spots, the best defender in the game at SS, an elite defensive 1B, and above average D at 3B and C. Did you really just call Alfonso Soriano "easily above average" at playing defense? Easily?!? The accuracy and quick release of his throws more than covers up the fact that he's scared of the wall.
  2. Hint: look at more than 2007. I know I'm new, but why is everyone so condescending and belittling around here? Get used to it. Bah. Not even Meph does that anymore. He's moved on to simple ego-gratification (and the response of everybody here to his posts now is fun to watch). The only real sniping is between OMC and IMB.
  3. Hint: look at more than 2007. I know I'm new, but why is everyone so condescending and belittling around here? I wasn't trying to be. I'm really sorry if I was. You will come to find out, that's not my style at all. Wasn't necessarily aimed at you. Sorry. It just seems like there's a lot of sniping at certain times. I guess that's the nature of a message board. Yeah, it's pretty tough to pull off my style on a message board. And pulling out statistics on a message board almost always makes one come off sounding condescending. Rest assured, I'm just trying to share my opinions. I'm not trying to hurt anybody's feelings.
  4. How do you figure? Bedard struck out almost 40 more batters in 13 fewer innings last year, against much tougher hitters. Minor league numbers, my friend. This was on the low end of what we should have expected from Hill's K/9, wheras this seems to be a fluke high for Bedard. I disagree, but that's fine. Feel free to disagree all you like, but Hill struck out 12.49 per 9 in his minor league career.... Bedard was quite high, but didn't crack 11 per 9, IIRC. There's a reason Bill James pegged Rich Hill to lead the NL in strikeouts before last season.

  6. Bedard and Hill are pretty much the same pitcher, with Hill perhaps having the potential to strike out a few more, and Bedard being able to induce more grounders. All things being equal, Bedard is probably a little bit better... but not significantly enough to justify giving up all the extra years we'll have Hill under contract.
  7. According to Dewan's +/- system, Adam Everett was +98 from 2004-2006. The next best shortstop was +46 over the same period. Edit: Izturis was a mere +21 over the same span.
  8. That's hilarious. Rowand may be a gamer, but he's not much of a player most years.
  9. Lineups don't really matter, it's about getting the right players into the lineup. But I wonder, I know it says "best" and "worst" lineups, but does this actually account for Dusty Baker level bad lineup construction? We'd be talking Dusty, but batting the pitcher first.
  10. I was under the impression there was about 9.5 runs scored per game last year. Wouldn't that work out pretty closely? At any rate, IIRC, Tom Tango came up with an estimate of about 2.5 wins. I'll go check The Book later though.
  11. I'm sorry to hear that. Are there treatments available? Not much, short of sucking on the business end of a Colt .45
  12. Really? Cause the Padres are in desperate need of OFers, and the Cubs have Pie to offer up.
  13. I'd think if we don't get the trade done in the next couple hours, it'd probably wait til Christmas... but I doubt it gets squashed either way.
  14. USS said Petrick in another tread. Didn't they move Veal to the pen? I think we've still got O'Malley who wouldn't kill us for a few starts if we needed him.
  15. Theriot. Khalil Greene will start No offense to you in particular, but why is everyone so nuts about the average SS Khalil Green? 1. He's above average. 2. Even if he were merely average, that would represent a very significant improvement over Theriot.
  16. Everybody over at Orioles Hangout is convinced that they're gonna spin Scott back to us in the Roberts trade... netting them Pie, Gallager, and another prospect. 2B - Roberts CF - Fukudome 1B - Lee 3B - Ramirez LF - Soriano RF - Scott C - Soto SS - Theriot If the Astros non-tendered Everett, I could get behind that team going out there everyday.
  17. If everett is non-tendered because of this... I'd love to pick him up. And boy does it pain me to say that.
  18. Adam Everett should have been out of the job even without the Tejada trade. adam everett is leaps and bounds ahead of theriot. hes an average shortstop. yes average, not bad. basically who is the taller midget? They are both utter garbage. did you not read half of my post?h I'd like to know on what planet Everett is considered an average SS? The one where he's the best defensive shortstop on the planet by a wide margin. He's one of the few whose glove actually covers his bat.
  19. Thank god. Hopefully this kills rickroll.
  20. Yeah, most studies say the difference between the absolute best, and the absolute worst (which no manager even comes close to) is about 2.5 wins a season.
  21. Wow... that's a fat load of nothing for Tejada.
  22. Also, interestingly enough, the contract has a provision forcing Toronto to pay for eight round-trips per season between Toronto and Burnett's home in Maryland... by limousine. I guess it's for his wife.
  23. For what it's worth, Burnett is making 12 million each of the next three seasons, and has one of those nasty opt-out clauses after this one. Scenario A: Burnett stays healthy. He opts out after the season when we're wanting to keep him. Scenario B: Burnett gets injured. He does not opt out and we're on the hook for another two seasons and 24 million. I can certainly see why his trade value would be lowered with that horrible contract.
  24. At this point, I'm seriously debating whether or not I should start backing a Jack Wilson acquisition... that's how sad it's gotten.
  25. Agreed. But this is fairly close to the package he's supposedly already been willing to give up.
