  1. Other than driving in Pedroia at a surprisingly high rate (34 RBI this season), Lugo has been quite bad offensively. Francona's great patience has finally been tested with Lugo and the .270 OBP has been moved to the 9th spot with Pedroia flipping to 1st. Francona hit Lugo lead-off in nearly every game this season leading up to this past week.
  2. Super - I rather enjoy watching JACQUE throw 22 hoppers to the catcher or shotputs into the brick walls...
  3. Cut his ass.
  4. My bullpen is killing me. About +25 for the Tooters and -10 for Buddiga so far this week. I need the Cubs to continue hitting and hammer Hudson tonight.
  5. Murton had an isolated patience of .065 when he was first called up. It's not perfect, but it's proper discipline. Ramirez had a .061 his first year. Lee was over .100 in his first limited duty, and .085 in his first real season. Felix is at .010 right now. That has to improve dramatically. Agree, that's dismal. However, he does look more patient than Patterson, for whatever that's worth. Agree on the appearance aspect. He takes pitches a lot better than Patterson did and his balance is much better. He is just extremely aggressive. In a way, he reminds me a lot of Jose Reyes from 2 years ago. Reyes walked 27 times in 695 AB. This year, Reyes has already walked 35 times and is in the top ten in the league in this category.
  6. I like Wieters and mostly because look at what happened to the Cubs the last time they passed on a Georgia Tech product early in Round 1...
  7. The ballpark is nowhere near any desirable bar in Atlanta. I'd head for the Highland area to Hand in Hand, Darkhorse, or Atkins Park. Those are just a few and there are also some great restaurants in that area. The Highland (or Midtown) is pretty much the only place I go out when I visit the Atlanta area. Buckhead is a dump now.
  8. That HR turned 2 contests around. Buddiga was down 5 points and with the A-Rod HR ended up winning by 1. Hopefully that turns my team around...
  9. I continue to be amazed by the common sense the Red Sox use when it comes to bringing along young players at the ML level. Pedroia was awful in April (.182/.308/.236). Francona played him every day. In May, Pedroia was one of the best hitters in baseball (.415/.472/.600). Now, in Chicago, Pedroia either goes back to the minors or is buried on the bench. No instruction happens and the player flounders. In Boston, they allow the player to work through the struggles to get to the level they know the player is capable of.
  10. Looks like Matt and I will be sitting with you on June 16th. I'll bring peanuts and we'll throw them up at Hendry.
  11. Why was Rich Hill removed from this game ? 3-3. Bullpen sucks. Ohman blows. And, he blows it with Wuertz ready to go...
  12. Thank you. Great timing for our trip that weekend to Chicago. Maybe by then the Cubs will have a cage match in LF between Floyd and Murton ?
  13. I'll raise you 100 Stanley nickels.
  14. This rivals Dibble/Piniella. I see Lou has taught the club how to fight with each other. That's good.
  15. True Kyle Davies just had his 3rd hit of the day. He was 5 for 50 coming into the game today. This team sucks. What a mess. D-Lee must be starting to wonder why he is on this ball club.
  16. The bullpen really eats at me. Eyre and Howry are done. They are old and they were signed to silly contracts. The offense and this bullpen share the burden of a 2-12 record in 1-run games. The bullpen won't get better overnight. It has to be crafted with a mix of young pitchers, a good closer, and an experienced pitcher or two who isn't over the hill. Arizona doesn't have a pitcher in the bullpen over 28-yrs old. Those pitchers have developed or are almost there. Arizona is 15-5 in 1-run games - the best in baseball. The top 5 guys in their bullpen either developed through the system or have spent at least 3 years in the system. As for the Cubs, the only pitcher in the pen even worth bragging about is Michael Wuertz.
  17. When's the last time you saw a fielder making a play on a ball when a runner passes him and yells to confuse him ? T-Ball maybe ? I saw my fair share of trickery in the college game. I'm sure you did. I will defer to your wisdom on the subject. Hidden ball tricks, deeks, etc are part of the game. Not yelling in someones ear as you pass them and they try to catch a ball.

  19. There is video evidence showing him scream as he ran past Clark. It looked like a scream. No backing down from this for A-Rod nor will he because in his mind he did the right thing to help his team win.
  20. A-Rod, as usual. 7-5 game, 2 out, Top 9th and Posada hits a pop between short and 3rd, the third baseman was camped under it and A-Rod runs by and yells in his ear. The third baseman runs away from the ball thinking the SS had called him off and the ball drops. The Yankees go on to score 3 more and are going to break their losing streak (btw the pitcher on the mound for Toronto was making his ML debut after 9 years in the minors). Now, I have never seen a player do this. Pat Tabler who is calling the game said he didn't see it in his entire career and up until this instance. A-Rod has dropped to this level before with his glove-snatching of Bronson Arroyo in the ALCS. Kids in Little League don't even pull that stunt. Fans down the lines might do that, but not a player running the bases. It's not how the game is played. It almost got ugly with Blue Jay players having to be restrained as the left the dugout. I'm sure A-Rod hasn't seen the last of this act.
