  1. B - mine is in the mail as of tomorrow morning. Sorry for the delay, no good excuse; just haven't been home much due to work travel.
  2. Carp was removed from a game today after just a few pitches in what is described as "an arm injury."
  3. He's sort of in the TJS prime years. A significant increase of innings pitched and pitches thrown. He's also a guy who throws a ton of offspeed pitches.
  4. Whether Harang's career was ruined by Dusty Baker, that's not the point. Who the hell knows why Harang sucked, he simply sucked. Maybe it was building over the years, maybe he was over his head in 2007, maybe he's just not that good. The point is that Dusty Baker has no ability to manage outside of the moment that he is in. It's why he pulled Russ Ortiz in Game 7 of the World Series, it's why Harang threw 340 pitches in 11 days, and it's why Mark Guthrie was on the mound in the 10th inning in Game 1 of the NLCS. Dusty Baker cannot manage complex tasks and think critically. It's not an accusation, it's a fact.
  5. You can try Delroy Lindo... Len Kasper ?
  6. In general, I'm not a huge fan of trading players you couldn't keep anyway, but if you can find a suitable trading partner and that partner thinks the player will add value; then I don't see an issue with it. In a way, it's like some of the MLB teams in the offseason who know they can't resign a player because they'll cost too much and have to trade them to a willing partner. Dan Uggla from the Marlins to Braves is one example. I do have one idea to maybe add control to this, particularly when it comes to draft picks. No team can have more than two, 1st round draft picks. That avoids a team from being able to just load up at the draft, which I think is reasonable in a 16 team league.
  7. +1 As a math teacher I find myself perplexed. +1 meaning....? Shorthand for "I agree."
  8. I would vote to start on March 7th, Noon. That should give plenty of time to prepare for the draft and execute (> 3 weeks).
  9. Here's what I'm looking at right now and have as marked: C - Buster Posey - Free U - Ike Davis - Free 2B - Dan Uggla - 522 3B - Kevin Youkilis - 390 (will have to start at 1B until 3B eligible in Wk 3) OF - Carl Crawford - 553 SP - Clayton Kershaw - Free SP - Ricky Nolasco - 312 SP - Josh Beckett - 151 RP - Daniel Bard - Free SP (Reserve) - Mike Leake - Free Total Points = 1929
  10. Yep. Keep their access. Everyone should know that I won.
  11. We have approximately 33" of snow on the ground here. When are Keepers due ? Is the drop deadline still 2/14 ?
  12. Hardcore. I'm glad the Cubs signed Carlos Pena in his prime today for half the price of Crawford per season.
  13. He was on NPR's "All Things Considered" a couple nights ago when I was driving home from work. He said that he's made a few bad financial decisions and hopes to make a few bucks and benefit a bar on the Northside or a private collector. He prefers it go to a bar so it can help attract some extra business for them. Everything else in the article is a repeat of what he said on that show. With the contract the Cubs gave him, he should be loaded(to $18.5M if you believe baseball reference minus +40% in taxes). Then again, millionaire athletes don't always hire a financial planner and end up resorting to selling memorabilia.
  14. It's our year (see Cliffton Lee)!
  15. Good luck, Kevin. When you're ready, I'm sure we'll be able to find a spot for you again in this league. Hope we still can chat with you around this forum.
  16. Cap - 2000 Exemptions - Keep the current three year structure, but if you want to keep in the 4th year, it will cost you 1/2 the points. In the 5th year, it'll cost 3/4 of the points. Thereafter, full value Starts - 7 still Weekly Lineup - Keep it the same, you have to prepare your lineup by Monday.
  17. Thanks, guys! What do I win ? Brian's team gave it a good battle. It was more interesting in a way to come back from being gone for 2 weeks to see I won. This was a challenging season. Every week seemed close and I had a ton of injuries. I don't recall making so many trades / roster moves in all the years I've been in the league. I look forward to trying to defend the title next year.
  18. I'm pretty confident. The Dealers are up by over 100. Same to you. It should be a good contest. The biggest challenge will be what teams do with their pitching rotations with respect to the playoffs.
  19. Thanks for the quick responses. Actually, I just went through last year's championship thread and Adam posed the same question. He was fine either way, and NC seemed to believe that it's one long week, so do your starts however you want. I tend to lean towards NC's thoughts. Mainly because the last week of the season, a lot of guys get shut down or pulled out of starts early to get ready for playoffs or to juggle their starts around, etc... So I'm going to make an executive decision and just say that you can match up your 14 starts however you want and we will treat this as one really long week. No problem. I just wanted to make sure before doing something that violated a rule. I dropped Yunel Escobar and picked up Westbrook. Hopefully the Pirates and Cubs are just what he needs. I agree - 14 starts however you get them. As I am going on vacation starting Wed and through the rest of the championship, I may designate someone to keep track of my team, sub-in and out pitchers, etc.
  20. That is a good question. I haven't made the finals in a long time, so I don't know the answers to those questions; though it looks like I need to know as well. BTW, Jake Arrieta was shut down by the O's but not disabled. He has no use as a reserve for me, but I have 3 injured players already. Is anyone opposed to me adding him as a 4th injured player so I can pick up someone who can be useful ?
  21. I heard a while back on a Boston Red Sox radio show a guy call in suggesting the Red Sox trade for him this offseason, move Martinez to 1st, and then move Youk back to 3rd because there is no way they will give Beltre the money he will get after his big season; assuming Beltre declines his option. He would be a .300/30/100 guy on a yearly basis in Boston.
  22. Napoleon Dynamite ?
  23. Bill "The Spaceman" Lee started and got the win for the Brockton Rox (independent). He is 63: The Spaceman Oddity
  24. It looks clear now. In the West, NSBB gets the 1st round bye and will play the winner of Alamo and Fuzzy. In the East, the Dealers get the 1st round bye and will play the winner of Sanitizers and Rodelo. I have 8 players with red crosses, so hopefully the next week can allow me to find a shortstop and align my pitching for the week after.
