  1. I don't think it needs to be explained to him. How long has he been on the trade block now? He's wanted out of Chicago for quite some time. MLB has spoken. If the best offer for Jones is a fringe prospect if the Cubs pick up his entire salary for the remainder of his contract, doesn't sound like anyone else values Jones as a starter, either.
  2. I'm happy with the delay. Would you be happy to see Lee miss the Brewers series this weekend?
  3. I disagree. Jones has pretty much given up. I'd much rather have a guy out there willing to give 100% than someone giving half effort.
  4. That's okay. I have a few nasty things I could say in return. Honestly, as bad as Jones was playing, I would have been happy if the Cubs traded Jones, paid his entire salary, threw in a prospect, added a few more million to secure the deal and asked for nothing in return. Alright, maybe that's stretching it a bit. But, good riddance!
  5. "Son, wins and losses are how you judge a pitcher. I mean, Howry battled and got his team in position to win the game. That's what a team needs." - Joe Morgan 'Howry could have folded after giving up those 5 runs, but instead he buckled down and got the 3 outs his team needed to come back in the bottom half of the inning and win the game. That is why he is credited with the 'W' in this one' - Joe Morgan Haha
  6. I think the hold up is because Hendry can't decide which veteran middle infielder he wants back in a trade for Jones. Rey Ordonez, Delino DeShields, Damian Jackson or Augie Ojeda.
  7. I'm looking at the list of players with options on TCR and Izturis isn't listed. Theriot, Pagan and Pie all have 2. The page was created in Spring Training. Izturis doesn't have any options. He doesn't have any talent, either. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. I'll be here all week.
  8. I'd love to see them call up Patterson, but considering they want to add a pitcher to the pen, I don't see that one happening. Maybe Soriano has himself in a fantasy league and wants to get his 2b eligibility back. :D
  9. What are we giving up to get him? The original post didn't say anything about it being someone not on the team. Just said there would be a surprise at 2b.
  10. With Marquis on the hill, I would imagine Izturis will be at SS tonight.
  11. True. But, the point remains.
  12. Well, they were hot when they swept the Yankees. I was very happy with the Rockies for doing that.
  13. I'd like to see the trend continue. I'm not sure how they should handle the Hill situation (being he is out of options), but I'd like to see Patterson, Cedeno, Soto and Murton brought up. If they could form a good supporting cast for Ramirez, Lee and Soriano, along with Pie, Fontenot, Theriot and DeRosa, might as well get them playing together sooner rather than later. Send Jones, Eyre, Izturis packing and figure out what to do with Koyie Hill, and it would be a done deal. Of course, that pushes the pitching staff back to 11, but I think that's where they should be anyway. You have to figure the Cubs will need to go cheap with new ownership coming in. That's what a lot of new owners do. If they could get Zambrano signed for what it costed for Barrett, Eyre, Jones and Izturis, they wouldn't necessarily be upping salary that much for 2008.
  14. Yeah. I read it wrong. When I originally read it, I thought he was saying "we miss Vargas and Suppan" as if that was a good thing.
  15. I snagged Scherzer. Yay me.
  16. I think I'd rather see the Cubs face Vargas and Suppan rather than the other 3.
  17. Who are the Brewers scheduled to face when the Cubs are facing Pitt and Wash?
  18. Agreed. Anything can happen over the next few months. The Brewers could get hit with injuries or they could add some key players to help their push become even stronger. It's critical for the Cubs to close the gap soon.
  19. I wouldn't.
  20. I'm up for that challenge when my staff is completely healthy. Roy Halladay Pedro Martinez Jeremy Bonderman Matt Cain Ervin Santana James Shields Adam Wainwright
  21. I'm in agreement that they have a chance, but I'd say it's pretty small, like 1 in 4. I don't really think the Brewers are playing over their heads. If anything, they could probably play better. They are actually playing like the Cubs should have been playing. JJ Hardy was playing over his head to start the year. Now Corey Hart is playing over his. Each is a decent player in his own right, but a team needs a spark from someone occasionally that you don't really count on to make a spark. DeRosa did that to start the year, but on a much smaller scale than Hardy did. Theriot sort of did the same, but on a smaller scale. The Brewers are well rounded with young talent and each could single handedly win a game offensively. That's sorta what they've been doing. Couple that in with a solid pitching corps and the Cubs have quite an uphill battle to catch them. Especially if they keep running Cesar Izturis out there everyday.
  22. I think it would make more sense to run waivers on Sunday night. That way they would take effect for the beginning of the new week and wouldn't result in any issues. There could still be issues relating to picking up free agents that ave cleared waivers, since that can be done at any time. Is the reason waivers is set up for Saturday because there is a chance you could miss out on a player to someone with a higher waiver claim, therefore you still have time on Sunday to shop for someone if you don't get your guy?
  23. Assuming I'm wrong on the Nomar transaction, what about this one that I also mentioned. There was nothing wrong with Huff. If you say this one is okay as well, then apparently we are allowed to make daily transactions.
  24. Hawk should be facing some serious fines for his actions in today's game. He made a lot of negative comments towards the umpires today. MLB will not be happy. I particularly liked it when he said the umpires were just making stuff up out there.
