  1. Bowen is so good he can replace his mitt in the middle of a game, so no worries Bowen uses a mitt? Maybe an oven mitt.
  2. I thought Bowen did an outstanding job of framing that pitch for strike three on Konerko. It was way low.
  3. A lot of people do that, and don't even realize they are doing it. A lot of these same people don't do it in normal conversation. It's basically a nervous tic. Not everyone is completely comfortable in front of a camera and/or microphone.
  4. I'm surprised Pittsburgh hasn't jumped in on the sweepstakes. I would think they would show interest in Milton Bradley or Dukes.
  5. It was definitely an outstanding post. For whatever reason someone doesn't post a lot, the least you could do is post sooner. :D I used albatross in reference to Barrett once, also. I didn't refer to him as an albatross, but I think Lou pretty much wrote him off as one.
  6. Looking up and down the Cardinals roster and their minor league system, I would steer clear of this guy. Sure, he lucked into a World Series Championship this year, but he most certainly didn't build a dynasty. He's better than Hendry, but that ain't sayin' much.
  7. yeah, i was gonna say, losing koyie hill should be at the bottom of the cubs concerns. With the sudden influx of young catching depth, concerns about losing Koyie Hill should be completely non-existent. Worst case scenario if you lose him is you still have Bowen and Soto for the rest of the year. You have Blanco still under contract through 2008. Donaldson just signed. Fox is not going to stick as a starting big league catcher, but he provides emergency type depth at the position. Not to mention the fact that there is a back up catcher type in just about every trash heap. However, I don't see the Cubs letting Hill go like that. I hope they prove me wrong.
  8. In other words, we won't be seeing Soto until September?
  9. And when have you ever known the Cubs to go after someone with those kinds of values?
  10. Heck, I say bring up all the kids. Bring up Cedeno, Soto and Patterson. Send Hill back to AAA, DFA or trade Jones and Izturis. Bench will consist of Theriot, Fontenot, Bowen, Floyd/DeRosa and Pagan. Soriano Patterson Lee Ramirez Floyd Pie Soto Cedeno Let them get comfortable playing together, and then decide where improvements need to be made going into 2008. If Cedeno has gotten over the hump, we need to know this before 2008. Might even be able to showcase someone for a trade.
  11. Dukes would probably love to get traded to the Marlins. He could still drive over to Tampa to beat up his girlfriend some more.
  12. Oakland has a crowded outfield. They might interest in a reliever, though.
  13. It just shows a bye for that week on the schedule.
  14. Admittedly, I'm a big fan of Milton Bradley's offensive production and his ability to play any outfield position. With that said, he is hurt more often than he's not. With that said, I'd take him in a heartbeat. But, I don't see Cubs brass doing it.
  15. I believe one his DL stints was because of some shananigans that did not happen during an actual game. Outside of the constant injuries, I wouldn't mind having him. However, I don't see the Cubs moving Barrett for a poor clubhouse presence and then turning around and adding Bradley, who has a bit of a history of being a pain in the behind.
  16. Trade threads tend to bring strong reactions. Get used to it for you are a newbie. Get over it if you don't like it. Hyperbole was here before you ever signed up (not singling out anyone in particular) and it will be here long after we are all gone. And I believe that's the first time I've ever even typed that word in my life.
  17. All of you "fact checkers" with all of your "facts" are never going to end the fun, wild speculation by the ill-imformed. Haha.
  18. I keep seeing Soto references. Isn't he hurt right now, and not catching at all?
  19. Exactly. There's no way the Cubs offer arbitration. Barrett could have scored big in arbitration, likely much bigger than any team would be willing to offer a catcher who is not good defensively.
  20. I posted my comments on him a page or two back. I've probably seen him as much, if not more, than most. But, even my knowledge of him is limited since he's had a very limited role since he's been with San Diego.
  21. San Diego preaches good plate presence. This is a team that was willing to lead off with Brian Giles in order to get better OBP at the top of the order. Until the Padres picked up Marcus Giles, Brian was slated to be the lead off hitter.
  22. I've probably seen Bowen more than most, but I will admit that I haven't really paid a whole lot of attention to him. I like his approach at the plate. The sample size is small, but he is a pretty big guy with pretty good power. I don't think he'll ever provide the type of offense that Barrett was capable of providing, but he does show patience and doesn't swing at everything sometimes like Barrett has a tendency to do.
