I disagree. I've always been under the impression a guy had to go on the DL before you could replace him with someone not on your roster. Hence my reason for leaving Casey Kotchman in my utility spot all week with a concussion.

And Rosenthal backed it up in an article today. ARG. I don't know what more frustrating, incompetent management or this pending sale. I think they could get Bradley without taking on salary. -

Okay, I agreed with the transaction that allows Alex Gonzalez to replace Miguel Tejada since Tejada was moved to the DL. Same team has dropped Aubrey Huff from the starting line up and inserted Dmitri Young into the starting line up for Sunday. Not a thing wrong with Huff. Same team has dropped Nomar Garciaparra from the starting line up and replaced with Brandon Inge in the starting line up for Sunday. While Nomar is out with the flu, he most certainly isn't on the DL. Both of these players added to the starting line up were picked up as free agents today. We need to get these rules posted, Juan. I really didn't stand a chance of winning this week anyway down by 40 and no pitching starts left, but with no rules posted on what is or isn't allowed, you have stuff like this happening. What if a win or loss this week was based on illegal roster moves like this?

I've always enjoyed reading Stark as well. Personally, I believe the "Cubs can't take on salary" part of this thread more than anything else. -

I don't think they need much "youthful" talent. They need good players to surround the good young talent they have now. -
Koyie Hill had to come in the ballgame in the 9th anyway. If Jones had pinch-run, then Hill would have had to come in for him and the bench would have been completely emptied. If Hill didn't need to come in the game, Jones would have probably been the pinch-runner chose. Ya beat me to it.

I thought it made sense. Hill was going to have to come into the game. Why burn Hill, Jones and Ward on basically one at bat? Jones might have been used to pinch hit later.

Understanding How Minor League Systems Are Rated

Too many things factor into the equation. Promotions, trades, loss of prospect status (flame out), injuries and losing players in the Rule 5 draft coupled in with a bad draft and little or no impact signings overseas can change your farm system ranking from good to bad in a very short amount of time. Another thing you have to be careful about viewing rankings of minor league systems is what they are actually ranking. Some rankings are based only on the top end talent and how close they are to being major league ready. Some rankings are based on the win/loss records of the minor league system as a whole. -
My least favorite thing in the world is losing the last game of a series. I'm happy that we won the series, but we have to bring the sweep home. Yeah, especially a Sunday game. A lot of managers like to give some of the starters a rest on Sunday and with a guaranteed series win, Piniella might be inclined to rest someone and I'd like to see him do the exact opposite, and send the regulars right back out there. Today's game seemed like a big win. The players really celebrated a successful squeeze. Ride out the high. This is how teams run off a string of victories. It's a little more fun and relaxed when everyone has a smile on their face and the team is winning.

I don't believe Oakland wants an outfielder in return. The main purpose for trading Bradley is because of a crowded outfield. They have Nick Swisher, Shannon Stewart, Travis Buck, Mark Kotsay, Bobby Kielty (injured), Jack Cust and Chris Snelling, without including Milton Bradley. It probably wouldn't be in the best interests of Oakland to add Jacque Jones, who has essentially been an everyday starting outfielder and gets starting outfielder salary, to a team that probably wouldn't play him everyday. To trade Bradley for Jones would actually be a downgrade offensively, and they will still have the same problem of having to listen to a veteran player complain about not enough playing time. To me, Oakland would view Jacque Jones as Terrence Long Part 2. An overpaid part time player that they would have trouble getting rid of. They finally pawned Terrence Long off on San Diego, but he was essentially a throw in to balance the contracts changing hands in a Ramon Hernandez/Mark Kotsay deal.

I actually deleted my post, but someone quoted it before I deleted it. The reason I deleted it is because my Kaz Matsui comparison was a bad example. I actually added him in the middle of the week from my reserves after I originally added him when BJ Upton was just sitting out several games before officially being put on the DL. I agree that this should be allowed, but with no rules to reference, I have to ask.

Rotoworld is speculating that Bradley might be faking the oblique injury so that he can become a free agent and pick and choose who he actually plays for.
