  1. He's got it tough in Toronto, also. Players don't get all excited about playing in Toronto. They overpaid for players, but they pretty much need to if they want players to sign there. Tough division, another country, semi-small market.
  2. Agreed. Heck, JD Drew hasn't set the world on fire either, and he was who I wanted to fix the outfield.
  3. Well.. he beat me head to head. I'd think record vs one another would make me be the worst in the league... Makes Juan's job harder though. I sure wouldn't want to go through and look up match ups once a month to determine waiver orders. It would be easier to assign waiver orders breaking ties based on team points. But hey, I'm not Juan. :D
  4. What I talked about with Juan is that Snyder and Chamberlain should work just the same as normal, since they came into the db just like any number of other existing minor leaguers. It's really the 2007 draftees that made this situation exceptional. So for the good of the league, I volunteered to drop those guys. It seemed the most fair way to handle things for everyone. Agreed. But, because the problem is only players from the June draft, once a month waivers shouldn't really be needed. At least I don't see a reason to do once a month waivers. Just do it when the database is stocked up with the June draft players and let everyone else be signed as a free agent like normal. I'm fine with however you all want to do it, but that's just my opinion on the best way to handle this.
  5. Wouldn't Juan have the first pick?
  6. Just thinking that might be a good date, because most of the guys people would want to draft would likely be signed by that date. What do we do with guys who are added to the database but don't sign with their teams? Can I draft a guy who goes back to college for another year or do I lose him?
  7. The new signing deadline is August 15. Sounds like a good day for a minor league draft.
  8. Isn't this really only going to be a problem once a season and sometime after the draft? Why not just disallow June draftees to be picked up until the season is over? How many are going to actually make it to the big club between June and the end of the season? 1? None? Then those guys could be part of the draft process and maybe add an extra couple of rounds to the draft? Those not drafted become free agents just like the rest of the player pool. A lot of these guys may not even sign with their respective teams until the end of the season. I forgot what the new deadline is, but it seems a whole easier to do this than to have each team submitting bids on players and dealing with waiver orders, etc.... And you want to set this up for once a month? How exactly will this work? I submit a list of names like the guys Tim just drafted? Depending on the waiver order and what players are left will determine which player I get? I think I'd rather just let Tim have all those players back rather than create a nightmare of combing the database once a month for newly added names. But, to me an easy fix is just don't allow June draftees from being eligible to be picked up as free agents until the following year's manager fantasy draft.
  9. Looks even worse if you think that Mitre may have netted us Salty.... Nah. Mitre wouldn't be the guy. Atlanta would want a guy like Lincecum who is in his first year. Mitre has too much service time.
  10. This team should kill LHP. Now would be a good time to start.
  11. I've seen the stat for inherited runners and the amount that score somewhere. Just don't remember where.
  12. The linky no worky. Iwamura would have been good, too. I had a big list of 2b's I wanted this offseason, and DeRosa wasn't on it.
  13. DeRosa was a good signing, plain and simple. He wasn't on my radar in the offseason, but when you think about his ability to play many positions and tie that in with how limited the Cubs have been in overall depth, DeRosa was a good pick up. I will hold out that I didn't feel like the Cubs would or should go into the season with DeRosa set as an everyday player. That offsets the value of the signing, IMO. Derrek missing several months last year had Mabry and Walker playing 1b. Aramis being injured had next to no one available to fill the hole. There was no outfield depth until they got Nevin, and the season was pretty much done already at that point. Looking back at previous years, you had a good bench guy starting in LF (Hollandsworth) and no one decent as a back up. The last time the Cubs had any decent depth was in 2003. What DeRosa provides is quality bench depth, yet the Cubs didn't really sign him to be bench depth, and I think that's where the deal looks bad. I would have been much happier with Durham or Giles AND DeRosa. Of course, that's ignoring the fact something drastic needed to happen at SS as well. Overall, I gave Hendry an (A) for his offseason moves. I felt he did enough to go out and win the division in the NL Central. If this team played in the AL East, the team he assembled wouldn't be good enough. I wanted Lugo, Schmidt and Drew. I admit it. I also wanted Lofton as bench help, although Lofton wasn't interested in being a bench guy. It's the kids who are making the difference, however. Guys who were not expected to step up have done just that.
  14. Obviously I have a different viewpoint here, but this is a level playing field. Everyone has equal access to the db. The rules have been the same for a long time now -- finder's keepers. I would bet that I'm as busy in my non-fantasy-baseball life as anyone in the league. But I find a few secs each day to hop on the site, check the scores and run through my list of players I want added to the db. I've been checking for Snider (or Snyder), Joba, McGee & others about every day for the better part of the season. When I saw there were a bunch of new players added over the ASB, I checked to see who else may have been put into the db. Each and every person in the league has that same ability to make that time and do that searching. Heck, with waivers you only have to check the database the night before waivers run to find all new players in the db - once or twice a week. The process itself is perfectly fair, though the results in this case may seem skewed. That said, if people want to change the rules, I'm perfectly willing to go along. I disagree. I was out of town on business when this took place. Many people go on vacation during the summer. A new crop of players being added needs some sort of announcement and all teams given an equal shot at these players.
  15. Because Lee will actually have to miss games when he serves his suspension whereas Young won't have to now. Exactly. Cubs will have a tough time putting together enough run support without Lee for up to 5 games. Young doesn't miss anything.
  16. Funny, that year I wanted to trade Moises to SF and sign Vlad. ;) Well yeah. You weren't the only one. Move Sammy to LF, put Vlad in RF and Lofton was insurance for Patterson. Done. Same story the next year with Beltran.
  17. What I wanted the Cubs to do was to trade Moises Alou to San Francisco, where his daddy was, and let Lofton play LF. Lofton and Walker would have made a nice top of the order combination, in regards to OBP, something they were severely lacking. They probably could have gotten a decent package for Moises.
  18. I wouldn't mind seeing Lofton fill in. He would be ideal working with Pie on SB's and patience at the plate. Texas could move Marlon Byrd to CF who they seem pretty happy with.
  19. So you've gotten Bonderman, a season of Verlander, Marte, Jackson, Miller & Carrasco for Halladay from me? Wow, that's pretty good on your end. Yeah, and more guys for trading Verlander back to you. :D You got Verlander back when you sent me Halladay, Gomes and Upton.
  20. First trade was Roy Halladay for Jeremy Bonderman, Justin Verlander and Andy Marte.
  21. I fixed your SP situation for you. That's the 2nd time I've traded you Roy Halladay. :D
  22. Could have been directed towards Briggs, as well.
  23. Sexson missed yesterday, is out for today and is doubtful for this weekend, so I benched him and replaced him with a reserve. Let me know if this is not acceptable.
  24. After my brainfart managerial mistake last week, I'm probably out of the running and might be interested in trading a pitcher. But, I'm leaving Friday for St. Louis and won't have internet access again until the 14th. And then I leave for Cabo San Lucas on the 21st and won't be back before the end of the month and won't be checking out the internet then, either. So, my trade deadline is either today and tomorrow or the 14th through the 20th.
