  1. Be very afraid that the AL pitcher the Cubs are after could be Dontrelle Willis.
  2. If the Reds are going to be including Bailey and Hamilton and more in a package to get Bedard, I really don't like the Cubs chances of beating that price.
  3. Of course the Cubs overpaid for him. What team that honestly thought they had a chance to get a guy wouldn't overpay to get him in this market? I'm just glad that all the rumors that had the numbers escalating higher everyday while we waited weren't true. The money the Cubs offered probably wasn't much more than Hendry's original offer, with maybe an extra year tacked on.
  4. You could be right. I just threw that out there because I think of the 2 other SS's mentioned, Peralta might be easier to land. I also didn't really spend a lot of time thinking about what players it would take.
  5. I like Michael Young, but agree with the sentiments that he is too expensive. I don't think Hendry would give up what San Diego will want for Greene, even if it is Cedeno, Prior and Pie. I know Cleveland said they weren't interested in trading Peralta, but I don't see why he would be that untouchable. The Indians were very happy with Asdrubal Cabrera last year when he took Barfield's spot at 2b. If they moved Cabrera to SS, they still have Barfield to put at 2b. Maybe Hendry could work a 3 way deal between Pittsburgh and Cleveland that looked something like this: Pittsburgh gets Andy Marte, Kelly Shoppach, Ronny Cedeno and Matt Murton Cubs get Jhonny Peralta Cleveland gets Jason Bay
  6. That's some pretty poor OBP in the outfield with Monroe and Delmon Young.
  7. I just don't see it happening. The Padres just lost out on the guy they really wanted and their gonna trade one of their best players to a team that stole Fukudome away from them? Be ready to give up the entire farm. Jhonny Peralta might be an easier guy to go after.
  8. Did I read somewhere in this thread that he and his wife are due for the birth of their first child very soon? If so, this is a pretty huge decision he's making. Surprised he made it this quickly, even if we all went through tremendous torture waiting this long.
  9. Bruce Miles has obviously and finally gotten into Hendry's head with this silly OBP stuff. Hats off to Bruce!
  10. Meh. This thread is officially a waste of bandwidth. Buh bye. Oh, IBL :D
  11. True, but think about how mad all of us would have been last year when Furcal was making 13 million dollars while putting up a OPS of .688. It goes both ways. He wouldn't have put up a .688 playing most of his games in the NL Central.
  12. Is there still the possibility that this could happen? Realistically, no. But, I don't think that line up was ever realistic anyway, because if Hendry got Furcal, he probably wouldn't have broken the bank with Soriano.
  13. You are happy with the starting pitching? I'm a bit eh on the starting pitching overall, but I think someone like Khalil Greene would do the Cubs more good than attempting to trade for Bedard. Considering the names being thrown around for Bedard, I'd much rather improve the offense and see if Gallagher can hold down that last rotation spot.
  14. It's rather apparent Hendry will not make the mistake again of letting someone come in and swoop up the guy he wants. It's really too bad that Furcal got away that first year. Imagine if you will a roster that had Furcal playing SS and then making this addition to the team. RF: Fukudome CF: Pie LF: Soriano 3b: Ramirez SS: Furcal 2b: DeRosa 1b: Lee C: Soto Yowza.
  15. The dude who got thrown out was hitting Wrong handed to be Fukudome.
  16. I don't care about that. What's his stance on illegal aliens? Because that's what really matters most on who I want to own the Cubs.
  17. Seriously doubt that the Angels would want Murton. Their outfield is already pretty crowded now with Torii Hunter, Gary Matthews Jr., Vlady, Garrett Anderson, Reggie Willits and Juan Rivera.
  18. Basically what those guys are saying is Jacque Jones to Fukudome is all this team needed. Wrong.
  19. According to the dudes on the Comcast Sports show a few minutes ago, Dan Plesac said earlier today that he felt Fukudome and Roberts were an "either or proposition" and that the Cubs wouldn't go after both of them. Which led to a discussion of which one would you prefer and a lot of discussion on how much Fuk's Japanese stats should be discounted. That would be completely silly if it was an either or proposition. Get both. Period.
  20. Is Peoria getting a caravan this year?
  21. So, in this scenario, we traded for Brian Roberts, Chone Figgins and Joe Blanton and only gave up Pie, Murton and other random minor leaguers? Where do I sign? Call me skeptical, however.
  22. I rest my case. Pedroia (age 22) in 2006: .191 .258 .303 Pedroia (age 23) in April/May of 2007: .182 .308 .236 That's horrible. Yeah, that last one is SLG. Boston kept sending him out there and he proved he belongs. Who wouldn't want this guy now? Pedroia (age 23) for all of 2007, including horrid April/May above:.317 .380 .442 I listed Ryne Sandberg and Sammy Sosa in my last post. Imagine if you will those guys never getting another chance to perform because of how poorly they hit in their age 22 seasons. Will Cedeno follow the path of Ryne Sandberg or Sammy Sosa? We don't know. If he doesn't get the opportunity, we will never know. Ryan Theriot is not a good enough player to take away the at bats Cedeno needs to prove he belongs. And it's not as if the Cubs would be dumping Theriot if Cedeno never amounts to anything. They'd still have him to come back to later.
  23. And if I could just add a bit more to this discussion, Cedeno would not be the first player that struggled in his first full season in the majors. Sammy Sosa at age 22, and his 3rd season in MLB: .203 .240 .335 Ryne Sandberg at age 22: .271 .312 .372 Alfonso Soriano at age 25 (first full season in MLB): .268 .304 .432 The list could go on and on. Just because a guy has a poor first full season in the majors does not mean he is forever going to suck at the major league level. I think the Miguel Cabrera's and Albert Pujols' of the world have somewhat tainted the views of what can or should be expected from young players entering the major leagues. Yes, for every Sammy Sosa, there is also a Corey Patterson. I'm not attempting to argue that every player that has a bad first season will find success eventually. But, you really do know now what you have in Theriot. His age and his progression dictate where he is now. With Cedeno, we really don't know. His outstanding minor league numbers don't translate to his major league numbers, because he's never been given the chance to see if his minor league numbers are truly an aberration.
  24. Oh no you didn't. Please tell me you aren't referring to Cesar Izturis. Trolling for an argument? It should be pretty obvious I'm referring to the marquee Cubs like Lee and Ramirez. Nah. I just forgot to include the smily face. I was just clowning.
