  1. Another Hendry miscue. Shoulda got that PTBNL BEFORE Littlefield left town. :P
  2. And it's brilliant because if the Cubs can land one more extreme fly ball pitcher, it really wouldn't matter how bad of defense you put at SS since he won't field many balls anyway. Just stick any GOOD bat at SS. :D
  3. Brilliant! Which is why Hendry wouldn't do it.
  4. If he goes anywhere, it will be San Diego. San Diego played this very same game with Marcus Giles last year. They made offers to Atlanta that Atlanta wasn't the slightest bit interested in, then waited until Atlanta non tendered him and picked him up on the cheap. Meanwhile, they kicked Todd Walker to the curb after losing an arby case with him.
  5. Be very afraid that the AL pitcher the Cubs are after could be Dontrelle Willis.
  6. If the Reds are going to be including Bailey and Hamilton and more in a package to get Bedard, I really don't like the Cubs chances of beating that price.
  7. Of course the Cubs overpaid for him. What team that honestly thought they had a chance to get a guy wouldn't overpay to get him in this market? I'm just glad that all the rumors that had the numbers escalating higher everyday while we waited weren't true. The money the Cubs offered probably wasn't much more than Hendry's original offer, with maybe an extra year tacked on.
  8. You could be right. I just threw that out there because I think of the 2 other SS's mentioned, Peralta might be easier to land. I also didn't really spend a lot of time thinking about what players it would take.
  9. I like Michael Young, but agree with the sentiments that he is too expensive. I don't think Hendry would give up what San Diego will want for Greene, even if it is Cedeno, Prior and Pie. I know Cleveland said they weren't interested in trading Peralta, but I don't see why he would be that untouchable. The Indians were very happy with Asdrubal Cabrera last year when he took Barfield's spot at 2b. If they moved Cabrera to SS, they still have Barfield to put at 2b. Maybe Hendry could work a 3 way deal between Pittsburgh and Cleveland that looked something like this: Pittsburgh gets Andy Marte, Kelly Shoppach, Ronny Cedeno and Matt Murton Cubs get Jhonny Peralta Cleveland gets Jason Bay
  10. That's some pretty poor OBP in the outfield with Monroe and Delmon Young.
  11. I just don't see it happening. The Padres just lost out on the guy they really wanted and their gonna trade one of their best players to a team that stole Fukudome away from them? Be ready to give up the entire farm. Jhonny Peralta might be an easier guy to go after.
  12. Did I read somewhere in this thread that he and his wife are due for the birth of their first child very soon? If so, this is a pretty huge decision he's making. Surprised he made it this quickly, even if we all went through tremendous torture waiting this long.
  13. Bruce Miles has obviously and finally gotten into Hendry's head with this silly OBP stuff. Hats off to Bruce!
  14. Meh. This thread is officially a waste of bandwidth. Buh bye. Oh, IBL :D
  15. True, but think about how mad all of us would have been last year when Furcal was making 13 million dollars while putting up a OPS of .688. It goes both ways. He wouldn't have put up a .688 playing most of his games in the NL Central.
  16. Is there still the possibility that this could happen? Realistically, no. But, I don't think that line up was ever realistic anyway, because if Hendry got Furcal, he probably wouldn't have broken the bank with Soriano.
  17. You are happy with the starting pitching? I'm a bit eh on the starting pitching overall, but I think someone like Khalil Greene would do the Cubs more good than attempting to trade for Bedard. Considering the names being thrown around for Bedard, I'd much rather improve the offense and see if Gallagher can hold down that last rotation spot.
  18. It's rather apparent Hendry will not make the mistake again of letting someone come in and swoop up the guy he wants. It's really too bad that Furcal got away that first year. Imagine if you will a roster that had Furcal playing SS and then making this addition to the team. RF: Fukudome CF: Pie LF: Soriano 3b: Ramirez SS: Furcal 2b: DeRosa 1b: Lee C: Soto Yowza.
  19. The dude who got thrown out was hitting Wrong handed to be Fukudome.
  20. I don't care about that. What's his stance on illegal aliens? Because that's what really matters most on who I want to own the Cubs.
  21. Seriously doubt that the Angels would want Murton. Their outfield is already pretty crowded now with Torii Hunter, Gary Matthews Jr., Vlady, Garrett Anderson, Reggie Willits and Juan Rivera.
  22. Basically what those guys are saying is Jacque Jones to Fukudome is all this team needed. Wrong.
  23. According to the dudes on the Comcast Sports show a few minutes ago, Dan Plesac said earlier today that he felt Fukudome and Roberts were an "either or proposition" and that the Cubs wouldn't go after both of them. Which led to a discussion of which one would you prefer and a lot of discussion on how much Fuk's Japanese stats should be discounted. That would be completely silly if it was an either or proposition. Get both. Period.
  24. Is Peoria getting a caravan this year?
