  1. I was certainly willing to talk trade, but got no response.
  2. Nothing to write home about. He got some favorable calls against Prince, which led to Prince getting himself ejected after the out. But, I did like the way he matched up against Prince, which was probably his best work of that outing.
  3. Moss is a 4th/5th OF Hansen is a set up man Morris is a pretty decent starter (a Logan White first rounder) but hes 3 years away Moss Hansen and LaRoche are all ready to help the ML team. will Hansen get a shot to close in Pitt w/ Capps out? Wasn't he a closer in college, or am I thinking of another Sox prospect? I kind of doubt they'd toss him into the role right away. Besides, they won't need a closer this weekend. :D
  4. Bradley interest is actually a bit shocking since he's currently hurt. Maybe he's not hurt as much as it was originally thought?
  5. Counsel batting second is classic. Why not just give Fielder and Braun a day off today rather than moving them down in the order.
  6. Maybe the Sox think they can wear out opposing defenses with the big shifts they generally put on Griffey and Thome.
  7. So the Sox plan to use Griffey in CF? Yikes. Blown hammy in 10.....9......8.....7
  8. I don't think that's true. The Padres are a huge mess, and a 35 year old veteran outfielder is not the key piece to build around. By the time the Padres fix their current mess, Giles will likely be retired. If they can get something for him now, they should.
  9. I don't believe I have that capability. Why don't both of you pick up/trade the players when they clear waivers?
  10. So are the Pirates if any of the prospects they're supposed to get are any good. Exactly. Bay to Hermida is probably a lateral move, with Hermida being cheaper and having more upside. If they get a decent arm or 2 on top of that, they've made out. Florida is really getting screwed in this deal. Hermida and Tucker for 2 months of Manny? boston would be making out great in that trade. i don't know why any team would allow them to really win a manny trade when they're the ones in the corner. I agree and not only that Florida can't offer Manny arb either so they won't be able to get picks? I don't understand the Marlins in this deal at all. Was that part of the agreement that they wouldn't offer Manny arbi? I hadn't heard that. That'd be crazy. I just thought it was that they had to turn down his option. The bit I heard yesterday was that they couldn't pick up the options and they couldn't offer arby.
  11. Soriano Giles Lee Ramirez Fukudome DeRosa Soto Theriot Yeah, I would be fine with that. The worst hitter in that line up is hitting nearly .320 right now.
  12. That's the Jason Kendall I remember so well.
  13. My guess is that Dusty pre-arranged this arrangement for his own odd personal reasons.
  14. Talk about robbery, they must be nuts. If they keep that stance, they can stuff it.. [-( They are under the impression that just because they way overpaid for Bedard, that everyone else should overpay them in return to make up for their original overpayment.
  15. They should trade Pujols while their at it.
  16. Ouch. I might have given some bad information in the game chat, Juan. The recently overturned trade of Dana Eveland for a minor leaguer is the transaction that requires immediate attention. According to your rule above, any year with less than 50/5/10 would be considered an exclusion from an exempt year. I assumed the rule was strictly for guys who have yet to cross that plateau. By your wording of the rule above, even though Eveland pitched enough innings in '05 and '06, he would regain a year of exemption status with only 5 innings pitched (1 start) in '07. That, or the wording needs to be changed. I made the mistake of assuming that once a player crossed the plateau of 50/5/10, that any year after that if they got even one inning or one plate appearance it would cost them an exemption. So, we need to clarify this one quickly in case these guys want to go ahead and reverse that trade again. In other words, I was right when I answered the question in the chat and you were wrong when you corrected me. :P I don't think I was the one who initially told them he didn't have any exemptions left, but I just backed someone else who took my same stance. Adam, maybe?
  17. I wouldn't say Dunn will come cheaply, but it sounds like there is very little interest in him. While we'd obviously have to give up something better than what the Reds will get back in draft compensation, but that'd sure be worth it for the stretch run (and our draft compensation). Frankly, I don't buy the whole "intradivision" pricetag in a situation like this where one team is way out and the player will be a rental. If the Reds like what we're offering more than 2 draft picks, then why should they hurt their team by turning us down? They aren't competing against us for the rest of the year. Given that Ibanez has some teams very intersted in him with the M's having a big asking price, I really don't think the cost will be that different for the two players. And definitely nowhere near the difference value. I'd agree with this if it was a guarantee that he was only a rental player. But, with Cub's ownership currently in flux, that isn't a guarantee. If Mark Cuban bought the team, there is always the possibility that he could give Dunn a lengthy contract. Are the Reds willing to trade Dunn to a team in their division and then face him for the next 5 some odd years?
  18. A small trade can't get much smaller than a 1/1 trade. Of course, there's always the trade of one player for a bag of balls.
  19. In last offseasons rankings Ibanez was solidly an "A". However, dropping off his 2006 season and replacing it with his 2008 season puts him much closer to the A/B threshold. Unless he picks it up in the home stretch, I don't think he'll make it...but it will be close. I would think a move to the NC Central from the AL West would be advantageous to his overall offensive output. Seattle, Oakland and Anaheim aren't great hitter's parks, even though Arlington is paradise. Not to mention the fact that Seattle's line up has been pretty horrific this year.
  20. Rupert Murdoch, I think. That's what I was thinking it was, but it didn't sound right when I typed it up, so I replaced the last name with "somebody". At least I didn't say Rupert Holmes. I don't believe Rupert Murdoch (FOX) spent beyond his means and then cut costs after purchasing the Dodgers. That may be what some people believe the current owner (McCourt did), but I'm not sure. Oh crap. I was way off base. I meant Frank McCourt. McCourt spent beyond his means to purchase the team and then cut costs the first few years he owned the team.
  21. The fact that they haven't really looked at long-term answers leads me to believe they haven't given up on Pie completely yet. If they got a long-term guy, they'd have to give up on Felix. Pie will likely be up with the team in September as late inning defensive insurance, barring a trade. I don't think it's a must to beef up the outfield, but I'm intrigued that the Cubs are exploring opportunities to improve.
  22. There is another problem besides where to play him. What are you giving up to get him?
  23. How does Dunn come cheaply? If he were dealt to a team in the same division, you can expect the price tag to be much more than if he were dealt outside of the division or to the AL.
  24. For the little bit of time that Theriot actually misses, I could live with Ethier in CF the rest of the season with no true SS back up. Between Fontenot, DeRosa and even Soriano, I think the Cubs would be a much better team with Ethier. Fix it where we give them enough to land Ethier and call it a day. Heck, I'd take Andres Blanco as the back up SS if the Cubs could get Kemp or Ethier with a package of Edmonds, Eyre and Cedeno.
