  1. While I'm on record as wanting a Rea, Boyd, Taillon, Imanaga rotation for this series, I'm curious if you know how many games the pitching staff would have won in any of the playoff matchups through these first two series if the Cubs only scored one run. The Cubs bats aren't doing enough to win games. The Cubs were never going to get "perfect" with the remnants and duct tape of the current rotation. And while I am on record as wanting a different rotation, we don't really know whether that rotation would have had better results.
  2. It was probably a better fit for Journey, another San Fran band and possibly not around anymore when the next Super Bowl in San Fran happens. Frankly, I don't care one bit who performs at the Super Bowl. I can just as easily turn down the volume and turn up my own music during the Super Bowl. It's really not that hard to do. Journey could come out and do a medley of several of their hits, then for the last couple of songs they can bring out Steve Perry to perform those.
  3. While I would rather see Shota pitching at home, I don't think you can just do a bullpen game when you are already down 1-0 in the series. If they would have gone with Rea or Assad in game 1, then Boyd on normal rest in game 2 and Taillon in game 3 and Shota in game 4 and Boyd in game 5 (if necessary) was the way I would have lined them up. But, luckily for all of you, I'm not the manager. At this point, you have to hope Shota has something left or something to prove and let the dice fall where they may.
  4. Just realized that Arizona was my suicide pick this week. Grr.
  5. There was 12:51 remaining in the 4th quarter when DeMercado rushed for 71 yards and then flipped the ball at the half yard line and the ball was fumbled out of the back of the end zone. That TD would have made it 28 to 6. They then proceeded to lose the game 22-21. Hahahahaha!
  6. Cardinals trying to have one of the greatest choke jobs ever, starting with a fumble at the half yard line by flipping the ball b4 actually crossing the goal line.
  7. This is where I was prior to the announcement of the first starter and afterwards, and it's in print somewhere here as proof. However, I will acknowledge there weren't many positive alternatives. My main thing was get the main quality innings eaters the necessary rest. Boyd is already 100IP above anything he's done the last 3 years. Rea and Assad (I would have put him on the roster for this series) have way less abuse on their arms for the season even if they were also on short rest. Peralta was likely winning game one without a gem by the Cubs pitching staff anyway. So I felt like maybe getting Boyd rest to go in game 2 made more sense than sticking him back out there on short rest. Rea had only surrendered 1 run in his last 13 innings as a starter during the regular season and a 2.63 ERA for the months of Sept./Oct. Sure, we weren't happy that he was signed to a deal in the first place, but again, maybe reward his fine end of season work with a game 1 start against a very difficult opponent. Civale ended up shutting the Brewers down for more than 4 innings. Maybe Rea does the same thing and game 1 has a completely different outcome.
  8. 78 pitches thru 2 innings. Is that bad?
  9. Or whale's vagina.
  10. Umm. The Cubs are playing today, so there is still emotional investment of some sort on the Bears bye week. I still yell at the tv's because of my fantasy teams, also.
  11. I actually like Rea as the game one starter. Milwaukee will be going with their best (Peralta) in game one. Rea has been pretty good lately. Then maybe the advantage moves to the Cubs for the rest of the series with Boyd going ab against Milwaukee's 2nd best. I'd like to think Taillon gets a start before Imanaga at this point, too. So Rea, Boyd, Taillon, Imanaga and Boyd again if needed.
  12. I do like that 4th down plays are becoming more of a thing, but the Rams going for the win last night in OT seemed like the wrong call to me. I suppose the tying field goal with 2 1/2 minutes left seems like a bunt to try to get an extra run, but flat out losing the game going for it on 4th and 1 when you can at least get a tie and hope for a defensive turnover or missed field goal on the next series seems way better than what they did. I don't normally like to watch pressers, but I would have loved to watch the McVay press conference last night. He probably got barbecued for that decision.
  13. Nice draw in game one. On the road against the lowly Florida Panthers. At least Fla will be without a couple of their stars.
  14. Maxx Crosby can make anyone look bad. I'm not going to say Trapilo outplayed him, but second half Crosby was not as good as first half Crosby. Did he wear himself out a bit in the first half? Is it easier to block Crosby after he's played a half already and you are coming in fresh? Did Ben scheme more blocking support against Crosby in the second half? Why did Benedet get the starting nod against the Raiders? Was it the plan all along to rotate the 3 healthy T's to try to get the best out of all of them against a tough pass rush?
  15. My observations of this game and this thread....... 1. Why is that Miller dude a reliever? If that guy can consistently hit 100 MPH and have that great of a slider, how is he not in the rotation? 2. I'm bunting Happ in that situation with a 1 run lead with the shadows causing problems for hitters. Not a fan of bunting in general, but in this instance....... 3. I don't remember how I did in the NSBB popular poster contest, but it's probably because I was too busy cutting up my Blockbuster Video membership card or being distracted by helicopters flying over my house looking for a missing child. (You are welcome, IMB and Goony!)
  16. I'm pretty sure I heard the announcers mention that Trapilo was in to replace Jones late in the 2nd quarter.
  17. I thought Ben Johnson did a marvelous job of clock management in that final series. The Bears still had 33 seconds and 2 time outs at their disposal if that kick isn't blocked. That's more than enough time to get back in field goal range. I've seen teams get in field goal range with no time outs. Caleb has been pretty good in two minute drills. Eberflus wouldn't have had any time outs left if he was coaching.
  18. The Ravens/Chiefs game didn't bother posting down/yardage graphics most of the game. I had the Bears sound on, but never had a clue what down it was in that game. Don't know if they were on CBS or Fox, but the graphics were ass. Oh wait, it was also CBS because that was the game of the week everywhere except Chicago and Las Vegas.
  19. All this concern about Rome, yet we don't even care about the welfare of Roy Firestone?
  20. Of note, When Ben tried to give Caleb a special moment in the locker room, Caleb wanted none of it. He brushed it off. He's growing into a big boy before our very eyes.
  21. I remember bashing every Hoerner trade scenario preseason. A lot of people wanted him traded.
  22. This team is limping into the playoffs. And by limping, create yourself a visual of the men coming back to camp after battle with limbs missing, bloody bandages around their heads, limping and heads hung low. We'll get 'em next time, gents! Only the Cubs can make a 90 win team unenjoyable. Well, that might not be true, but it's hard to like the product on the field right now. Maybe they can change the "feels" next week. We can only hope.
  23. I didn't have the sound on the Eagles game, but I was pretty surprised that AJ Brown's TD catch wasn't called back on offensive pass interference. He totally appeared to push off to gain the separation he got for that catch.
