  1. I know it's only Spring Training and it is his first start...but I think it's pretty funny that St. Louis touched him up for 3 runs---I think that was how many runs, anyway. The Red Turds beat the not so amazing Mets 5-4
  2. Maybe its just Iowans :-" not cool At all. I'm originally from Iowa (Univ. of Iowa grad/ Go Hawks!). I think you'll find that Iowans are some of the best informed fans out there. In this case, I'd like to think that Jason C. is very young in age. hopoefully, this is the reason for such a ridiculous post.
  3. Sorry guys that I forgot the link...but Lou did say that Cotts has been throwing the ball good and we know he's been impressed with Ceda. But like y'all his commments about Sean G. really bum me out. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080225&content_id=2389002&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  4. (Carrie Muskat) "What's tough is that youngsters such as Sean Gallagher may be out of luck in making the big league club. There are a lot of veterans ahead of him". (Sweet Lou) "We'll pitch them here in Spring Training, but this is not a year for that," Piniella said. "I hate to say that, but we have veteran pitchers here to consider and they'll get every chance, first and foremost. We like Gallagher. I like [Jeff] Samardzija. But truthfully, I'd be lying if I said something like that could happen [that they'd make the big league team]. We have seven veteran starters. They're all healthy, they're all going to compete. Unless we have a streak of bad luck and we have some injuries, this is not the spring for them." --It sounds like Piniella is not even willing to give them a chance to make the club.
  5. http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/15917802.html so it doesn't actually say it's done... So does this mean they have actually settled on the other position players (Cedeno, Murton, etc.) to be rumored in this deal?
  6. So where is Hee Seop Choi now? I'll be contacting you Vance later on today.
  7. $75 is not too bad but I think they're going for less on Stub Hub...so let me think about it. Also two of my sisters might have a problem with work on Monday if the game is on Sunday. Probably the Friday or Saturday game would work out better-- or for that matter, the Cubs/Cards series in August. Let me check first with my sisters and their hubbys. Thanks.
  8. I've already contacted a fellow member and still waiting for his reply BUT I also wanted to appeal to other members at NSBB and ask any of you, whether or not you have any tickets between the Cubs and the Cards at Wrigley, available for purchase. Members of my family were planning a 40 yr. reunion at Wrigley Field. 40 years ago, my Father took all of us to Chicago for our first Cubs game, against the Cardinals. Jenkins against Ray Wasburn I think? I know Fergie didn't pitch against Gibson or Steve Carlton. Any way please let me know about the tickets, hopefully I wont have chemotherapy that week.
  9. OH mini update (p.224)...no Roberts trade to report of, as of yet.
  10. http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/rids/20080216/i/r3287558074.jpg?x=176&y=345&sig=cuynuCPt.pyr8J_a1IUL0Q-- http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080220/capt.584b80194059469e8274de127e874865.padres_spring_baseball_azmg108.jpg?x=208&y=345&sig=n4RHdPaxm_397.hGCIggKw-- --Too bad he wont pitch this year.
  11. This story on Roberts is somewhar similar but I thought I would post it anyway. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-roberts219,0,97820.story
  12. ---Suprise, suprise. I'm not. News flash: Prior wont be ready either.
  13. "Eyes bin hypnotized!" "Red Rum, red rum, red rum..." "Eyes posessed!"
  14. "The Cubs' first full-squad workout will be Tuesday at Fitch Park. Aramis Ramirez is the only regular position player yet to work out. Ramirez was flying to Arizona from the Dominican Republic on Monday". --It was also good to hear that Dempster (thus far) has been impressive in camp. "He's in great shape," Piniella said of Dempster, who has been the Cubs closer the last three seasons. "The ball's really coming out of his hand well... I think he's throwing as well as you can expect in this early stage. He has good velocity, has quickened himself up to the plate delivery-wise. I'm pleased at this stage -- I couldn't be more pleased." http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080218&content_id=2378387&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  15. If any of you guys are taping today's programming, and would like to make a couple of extra bucks-- I'd be willing to pay you guys for a copy. You know what I'd really like would be a copy of last year's game against the Brewers, when Ramirez homered late in the game...enabling the Cubs to come from behind and beat Milwaukee.
  16. This is according to Keith Law, who was just featured on (Yuk) ESPN News.
  17. If you want to watch CSN on DirectTV, you have to subscribe to the sports package. Okay Vance...but I thought I already did. I'll call DirectTV right now and see what's up. Thanks Vance. --- I do appreciate the info Vance but just so everybody knows, you can still have purchased the sports package from Direct TV, but if (in this case) Comcast Sports Net Chicago decides to black out the programming in your viewing area...there's nothing you can do about it. Except maybe call CSN and complain 1-(888) 388-4766. I called the number that Direct TV gave me [1-(888) 388-4766] and it turned out to be a magazine subscription service for Direct TV. Sorry about that. I finally got the right number and called 1-(312) 222-6000. I spoke to Greg Bowman in programming. What a great guy, I really appreciate him taking to the time to talk to me. If I understood him correctly, I think the problem lies with MLB, in terms of what they will and will not allow. He told me but I can't remember. I told him about NSBB, and he seemed impressed. Who knows, maybe he'll become a member in the future.
  18. Yeah yahoo sports is reporting the same thing. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Auzk5TuuC4mV8dfXKQHj4Lapu7YF?slug=txcubscintron&prov=st&type=lgns
  19. ---31 pitches, big deal. If I was a Padres fan, I wouldn't be getting my hopes up, just yet. August will be the soonest that he'll be out there pitching on a consistent basis.
  20. Gotta love the iPhone It seems like a lot of the position players arrived early, so they probably already checked in, had their physicals and are ready to play. Ramirez most likely just got here and is doing that. I could be wrong but the following starters are reported to have been in camp at least yesterday C: Soto 1B: Lee 2B: DeRosa SS: Theriot LF: Soriano CF: Pie RF: Fukudome --You're watching all this on the Iphone? Or are you actually there in Mesa? UMFan isn't watching anything on the iPhone, nor is he in Mesa (as far as I know). We know from all the reports and photos over the weekend that those players listed are already in camp. I'm pretty sure he just mentioned the iPhone because he was implying that WilcoFan is at Fitch Park and posting from an iPhone. --Oh, okay. Thanks.
