  1. And a lot of fans of other teams are thinking the same thing. Fortunately for your sanity our offers would not have been able to hang with offers from the Sox and Yanks. ---Yeah I agree with that Meph but (although I don't know much about the players that the Mets gave up), I think we could have offered Minnesota more. I hope Santana hates New York and asks it get out of his contract, and eventually files for free agency.
  2. The Cubs better damn well get Bedard and Roberts, especially now, that they didn't land Santana. Man, I hope I can get over this. I'm calling Hendry tomorrow and I'm going to ask him why the Cubs didn't get Santana.
  3. Cub fans should be ticked off. We should have gotten Santana. I'm furious. I know I wont get any sleep tonight. I'm going to call Hendry's office tomorrow and go balistic.
  4. Hey Rammy, can we get a photo of that relief pitcher we acquired from Atlanta...and one of Lieber. Are there any other new additions to the team (other than Fukudome), that we can get pictures of?
  5. I was thinking the same thing. Yeah, I think that MLB should drug test the "little pot head". lol.
  6. I was going to say that maybe since Angelos is peeved about the leaks that happened with the O's trade with Seattle that maybe he'd listen to a proposal from the Cubs (provided that nobody lets "the cat out of the bag)...but on second thought. I don't think anyone is going to be able to effectively deal with Angelos. And they say that Roberts is one of his favorites? Hmm, I wonder if we'll ever get Brian Roberts, let alone Bedard.
  7. --Hey, let us say some quick prayers that Angelos will become an immediate Cub fan and deal both Bedard and Roberts, for practically nothing. Yeah, I know I'm dreaming. keep hope alive! Keep hope alive!
  8. ESPN's Rumor Central is reporting that the Mets are in the lead for acquiring Santana. OMG, not the Mets! If the Cubs can't get him, then I hope he stays in the American League.
  9. Let me re-phrase what I posted earlier If you don't land Santana, then you have do whatever it takes, to land Bedard in a trade. I'm sick and tired of the Cubs allowing other teams steal their thunder.
  10. Whether we get Santana or not, I think Hendry at least has to try to make a deal for him. Bedard has a lot of potential but talent wise, he's not half as dominating as Santana. If the Twins don't bite, then I say go after Bedard. The Cubs goal should be to win now, not 2009 or 2010.
  11. I hear ya Meph but I would expect the Cubs (and I know we're talking about a lot of money) to sign Santana to a long term deal. I don't think the eventual sale of the ball club would affect that. You make a valid point, but Santana? I don't think you'll find a better pitcher, in all of baseball. I think he's worth the gamble but you have to sign him first.
  12. I know this has been talked about before but Buster Onley is saying various teams have shown interest in acquiring Santana (not just the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets). He said that the Yankees have taken Phil Hughes out of any potential deal with the Twins and that the Red Sox, under no circumstances, would be willing to trade Jon Leister (spelling?). Onley also said that if Bedard were traded, he thinks it would be to the Mariners. Take a break from the "Roberts thread" and post what type of package deal, the Cubs would be willing to accept from the Twinkies. I say forget about Brian Roberts and focus on Santana. Heck, trade the entire farm if you have to, but whatever it takes, add Santana to your rotation.
  13. --Wow, did I miss something? When the Nationals switch leagues? lol.
  14. Good job Ole Miss but I would also have included BIlly Williams, Fergie Jenkins, and Ron Santo.
  15. yep --Even if we go to camp with this team, I bet we'll add one or two new players before the start of the season. Yeah, crappy NRIs if/when someone gets hurt. --No. Hendry will make a trade. Hopefully, it wont be as bad as the Dontrelle Willis trade.
  16. Man, this campaign is really getting me pumped up for the season. I think the Cubs should explore the idea of doing a japanese version of the Fukudome ad. I really would be interested in knowing how it would be received in Japan. I think it would cause a lot of interest in the Cubs. It would be cool to go to Japan, and see everybody wearing Cub caps!
  17. --Or the Cubs will kick butt in 2008! I really like this advertising campaign. Good job Cubs!
  18. --Yes he is. "It's a done deal", they are just working out the details before they announce the deal...sorry guys, I couldn't resist. Way to stoke the fire! I do hope however that we're either able to acquire either Bedard or Roberts.
  19. --Banzai! May the Cubs win the World Series for ten-thousand years!
  20. Looks pretty realistic Rammy with the exception of the catcher, throwing the ball back to the pitcher.
  21. --I love it! I think, just like Ichiro, it might take him a while to adjust to MLB pitching. I remember listening to a Spring Training game through WGN radio's website, that day the Cubs were playing the Mariners. In his first at bat against Kerry Wood, Ichiro ended up striking out. Pat Hughes said (or maybe it was Ronnie) that Ichiro was completely over matched in that at bat against Woody.
  22. then in football season you can just take out the "small" part...genius! Fukudome has a great & accurate arm... Bears need a QB... Hmmm... --Funny stuff! BTW, Ole Miss-- what does bonzai mean? I feel I should know this but at this particular time, I am experiencing a severe brain cramp. Ouch! bonsai means potted plant ---I can see it all now. I finally get the opportunity to meet Kosuke Fukudome...so I bow and say Domo arigato mister roboto. domo. domo. Boku wa nihongo o hanasimasu (which I have no idea what that means). Bonsai! Yeah I know, it's time to get back to work.

  24. --Under "Extra Bases", I found this interesting... "Kosuke Fukudome was happy to hear that the Cubs had invited reliever Shingo Takatsu to Spring Training. The two are friends. "Maybe he can teach me a lot about Chicago and American baseball," Fukudome told Japanese reporters. Fukudome returned to Japan after training in Hawaii, and is expected to arrive in Arizona in early February. --but this suprised me ... "Player development director Oneri Fleita said there may be a surprise candidate for the center-field job on the Cubs' big league team -- Eric Patterson. Fleita said Sunday they have "wiped the slate clean" for Patterson, who was called up to the big league club last season, but then sent home after showing up late to the ballpark". --With regards to the signing of Shingo, I think most people felt that the only reason that the Cubs signed Takatsu, was as a benefit to Fukudome. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080120&content_id=2351567&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
