  1. Thanks SweetPete, those are all good selections but I'm suprised B.W. wasn't added to the squad...although I don't know what his stats were in the first half of '71.
  2. Sorry guys, this post should probably moved to the General Baseball Discussion forum. Sure is great hearing Curt Gowdy call a game again.
  3. How many of you watched MLB's re-airing of the 2008 All-Star game today? Great game but too bad the NL didn't win. I wish I had known ahead of time, I would have arranged it so I could record it. Right now MLB Network is re-airing the 1971 game at Tiger Stadium, I'm curious as to how many Cubs were named to the NL squad. Just saw that Glenn Beckert threw out a runner. Of course I'm waiting to see if Billy Williams is on the team, I would be suprised if he's not. Do you think Ernie's on the team?
  4. His name is Andrew Cashner. He was just promoted from Daytona to Tennessee. He might get a September call up but the Cubs seem to possibly be tinkering with him as a starter instead of as a reliever which might delay his time table to the bigs (he started for the two years at Angelina JC before transferring to Texas Christian and becoming a closer). Here are his stats: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=488768 Yeah, Cashner that's right. Thanks California, I appreciate the info.
  5. Guys, help me out here. I was trying to remember the name of the kid that was the Cubs top selection in last year's draft. He was one of the top college relief pitchers wasn't he? Can you guys tell me at what level he's at, and how close is he to being called up to the major league level? Thank you in advance for your help.
  6. That explains everything. The offense didn't get that bulletin. :D Priceless NC! Okay you guys are right. It's the offense but signing Pedro still intigues me.
  7. yeah it looks good. I'm definitely interested in getting a copy.
  8. I agree with you that are concerned about the offense but I see our bulletin as the real problem. I don't know if Pedro would be willing to go to the bullpen but I like the idea of him being tried as a closer. He can't do any worse. I neither have confidence in Gregg nor Marmol. If Pedro is dead set on starting, how about puting Martinez in the starting rotation and moving Randy Wells to middle relief. What are your thoughts on the matter?
  9. anything of interest? dang I missed it, is there someone out there who can tell us what Ricketts said? Please.
  10. Alright thanks Vance, I know all-star voting isn't official until you start your thread. I'll be ready. Like you and so many others, I like the Riot and Fukudome.
  11. Hey isn't it usually Vance that gets all of us to start casting our ballots for the All-Star game? Whadda say Vance, time to get the ball rolling? I've already cast my first ballot and I'm ready to do more. Ten ballots a day, would probably work for me. What are some of your strategies?
  12. Not sure if I saw that correctly because the screen on my upstairs TV is so small but MLB Network (and a Minneapolis newspaper) is saying that Juan Cruz and his agent are in negotiations with the Twins. I'll see if I can somehow verify this. I wish the Cubs had already signed him.
  13. Thanks NC, we can always count on you to update us. I was wanting to know when the Cubs would be featured on "30 Clubs in 30 Days," that's great I'll be sure to watch.
  14. Anybody know what Murton's minor league numbers were last year?
  15. Thanks for keeping us informed "satx". I really do appreciate what you, NC, and others have done. Didn't I hear that on Wednesday, the MLB Network is planning on re-airing Kerry Wood's 20 strike out performance? Has anyone heard of this? I remember maybe seeing a year or two ago, a rebroadcast of Wood's 1998 pitching gem on ESPN Classic. The next time I found that being aired is Sunday. http://mlb.mlb.com/network/schedule/?ymd=20090208 Thanks "Saluki".

  17. I'm really disappointed in this trade. The Cubs should have gotten a better return for Wuertz. I know this move frees up money and I don't know what he's asking but maybe the Cubs should entertain the idea of signing Juan Cruz?
  18. Just got done watching Hot Stove on the MLB Network and Joe Magraine was saying 1) he couldn't understand why Hudson was still available and 2) why the Cubs weren't going after him. Someone on the set even mentioned that they thought Orlando Hudson was a good alternative to Brian Roberts. I'd like to know your thoughts on the matter? Would Hudson be worth the money or are y'all satisfied with a Miles/Fontenot platoon?
  19. Like many of you I wonder how this deal effects a potential Peavy trade. As much as I like Marshall, I wouldn't hesitate one bit to include him in a deal for Peavy, now that Olsen is no longer a Cub. Without Marshall, the options for LHPs are sparse. I don't personally think that's a big deal, since we have a number of RHPs who can get lefties out effectively, but Hendry has had way too much of a fascination with handedness this offseason. On second thought and after reading many of your posts, I think if the Pads would be willing to take Heilman instead of Marshall, that by far would be a better trade for the Cubs.

  21. I certainly hope that when Kerry's contract runs out with the Tribe, that the Cubs will consider bringing him back to the North Side.
  22. I'm cool with that Raisin. When I initially posted, I forgot to check this forum first. Thanks for combining the 2 threads.
  23. yeah, I think it will be great especially in the off season. hey billy, haven't seen a post from you in a while. how's your health? Hey Oscar, thanks for asking. Cancer reoccurred in my liver so I'm having to undergo chemo treatment once again. But it's okay --with God's help I'll lick this round of cancer as well. Please keep me in your prayers. On another subject, just got done watching a highlight video of the 2004 World Series when the Red Sox beat the Cards. Sure wish it could of been the Cubs.
