I know I don't have the spelling of his name down but I found it interesting that the Cubs chose to replace the Iowa pitching vacancy with...what's his name as opposed to Veal.
I agree with LLF when he said: "Do we want to give up Gallagher and Vitters for a guy whose looked awful this season"? I'd give up Gallagher, Vitters and more for Sabaitha (spelling?) but not for Bedard.
With the cancellation of the game, I wonder how quickly the team was able to get out of Cooperstown? Maybe Lou, D. Lee and others were able to hit the beach after all. I hope so.
Really doesn't matter as you have to bid for the rights to talk to him with his current team, not to mention all the bids are blind. That bid alone is going to be $60 Million+ and doesn't include his contract which will be huge. I understand that but all Fukudome has to do is pick up the phone and give him a call. Players are always encouraging other players to join their team.
Thanks for the heads up Vance. I immediately started taping the game. I think I started in the 4th inning. If anyone has a copy...I'm interested. In '98, I saw the game on TV, while living in Kansas City, MO.
I was thinking about the tremendous effect that the Japanese fans had in voting Ichiro in a couple of years ago, so I was wondering what y'all thought about what might happen this year to Fukudome. I certainly think he's worthy of being selected, and I have doing my part that he and the rest of the Cubs are in the starting line-up. So...vote and vote often.
I agree Vance but I think it will happen. I don't think however, that Edmonds will last the Summer with the Cubs. Any perdictions on how long Jimmy E. will last? I predict a couple of months--tops.
Don't know if this was mentioned earlier but before the Cards acquired him from the Angels, the talk was that the Cubs were seriously thinking about trading for him. That would have been really interesting huh, if we had gotten him from the Angels?
I'm sorry but besides being a fan of Kerry Wood, I have to admit that I would feel more comfortable if Woody's and Marmol's roles were reversed. Kerry should be setting marmol up, not the other way around. Although Wood has been pitching well of late, Marmol is "lights out" and has been so dominating. I certainly would breathe easier if the switch were made.
yeah since he blew that game against the Brewers, I'm sure I heard that he is using a new grip on one of his pitches. I think it's his slider but I'm not sure. Whatever it is, he seems so dominant now.
I just posted this in game threads but wasn't sure if my question would be answered. Didn't I hear that Woody is using a new grip on one of his pitches? Which pitch is that? Whatever changes he might have made have certainly helped. I'd prefer Marmol be our closer but as long as Kerry's doing the job --I say, give him the ball.

Personally, Id rather see Cotts up than Eyre. Maybe Marshall can prove himself in AAA, but with Lous mentality lately, it wont really matter. I agree with LLF, Cotts has been piching real well at Iowa. Why not give him a shot?
I have an autographed copy of that one. Good for you Vance. Regardless how the 2003 and 2004 Cubs fell short, I don't blame SI nor do I blame some goat for the Northsiders futility. The Cubs just didn't get it done. Although mangement made some changes to improve the ballclub back then...I just wish Hendry, and the Cub brass would have put forth a better commitment to winning. If we had a better bullpen back then, maybe 2003 and 2004 would have been different. Certainly a better shortstop in 2003 would have helped.
I'm in agreement with what's been said thus far, if I would try to upgrade at all-- I'd concentrate on pitching. Here's how I would rate my top five: 1) Lincecum 2) Sabathia 3) Oswalt 4) Penny 5) Burnett
This board has become boring since the Roberts trade didn't materialize. Back to Banks, what about you? You normally have a few trade proposals up your sleeve. Let's hear a few.
