  1. You think it's unrealistic to want an OPS over .840 and a IsoP of .200 out of a 5 hole guy? A bit, considering NL average for a #5 hitter in 2005 was: .271/.340/.454 Yes, I know - we want to be contenders, so we should want better than average. Well, we ought to be considerably better than average at #3 and #4. Plus, we're supposedly a plus-plus pitching team (or we aspire to be). Regardless, I'd like Giles and Bradley, so Milt could hit #6.
  2. If he's nontendered, he's a free agent and thus completely at liberty to sign with anyone. Why not throw the Dodgers some value so you're ensured that he's your property*? *that phrase will go over very well with Mr. Bradley, I'm sure!
  3. I'd be a little concerned having Bradley as the #5 hitter. I love the early part of the offseason when unrealistic expectations are running high!
  4. And if Bradley is non-tendered, giving up players for Bradley is a non-issue.
  5. Anyone heard any rumblings or news out of Florida? Probably not, since the GM Meetings are in Indian Wells, CA.
  6. If Giles can't be had Mench would be a good backup plan. Yes, but get Mench first so, when Giles doesn't sign until January or February, we don't wind up with Jose Macias as our everyday RF.
  7. The Cubs should be first in line for Bradley. He gives you a guy capable of hitting fifth behind Lee and Ramirez, in case you don't get Giles to hit third in front of those guys. If you get Bradley and Mench, you can pick which one you want to keep for RF in 2007 when (we hope) Pie is in place in CF and producing.
  8. Both Baker and Bradley are African-American. As well as team leader Derrek Lee.
  9. Tony "Walk Machine" Schrager
  10. For Mench, they can have Patterson plus: one from the out-of-options crowd (Mitre, Wellemeyer, Leicester) OR one from the Rule 5 eligible bunch (Brownlie, Marmol, Marshall, Nolasco, Ryu).
  11. I'd rather have Giles for rightfield, but trading for Mench would give us insurance in the case we can't sign or trade for a bigger name. This is a tactic I'd like to see the Cubs employ. Fill the spot, then go looking for something better. It might take away the stink of absolute desperation.
  12. omfg. they wouldn't take ramirez + cash for sizemore and prospects? i'm sorry, sizemore is awesome, but that's just stupid. Ramirez is owed $57 over the next three seasons. Let's assume, for the sake of discussion, that the Red Sox pick up half of that (extremely unlikely, but nevertheless...). You think the Indians should give the Red Sox Grady Sizemore for the privilege of paying Manny Ramirez an average of $9.5 per season during his age 34-35-36 seasons?
  13. I don't know what the Indians payroll situation is, but I wonder if they'd have any interest in trading Jake Westbrook and if the Cubs would have any interest there. I don't really want him, but he seems like the kind of innings eater at the kind of moderate salary the Cubs might like.
  14. I'd rather have Betancourt than Riske. So would I, but he's still a 0-3 guy, so I doubt there's much incentive for the Indians to move him for a salaried guy they're going to use as an extra man.
  15. I guess I shouldn't have even gotten into this. What does Sizemore's history as a prospect have to do with his current value?
  16. Riske has an extreme flyball profile, so, in that regard, one might consider him to be a bit, shall we say, risky?
  17. Sizemore: BA's #1 Indians prospect after the '03 season. BA's #7 Indians prospect after the '02 season.
  18. Extremely doubtful that Shapiro would give Pie and Walker for Sizemore more than 30 seconds consideration. And I'm a staunch Pie supporter.
  19. Yeah, I agree. I'd be willing to kick in a decent prospect if it would land us Sizemore, though. Grady Sizemore is one of the most valuable properties in baseball. We'd be more likely to acquire Ted Sizemore.
  20. In the extremely unlikely event we could get Coco Crisp for Todd Walker, I'd hit Crisp second. Todd Walker and Todd Wellemeyer for David Riske and Franklin Gutierrez.
  21. Currently with signed contracts for the 2006 season: Aramis Ramirez - $10,500,000 Derrek Lee - $8,666,667 Michael Barrett - $4,000,000 (estimated; year-by-year breakdown of multi-year contract never reported) Henry Blanco - $1,500,000 Kerry Wood - $12,000,000 Greg Maddux - $9,000,000 Mark Prior - $2,750,000 (assumes signing bonus was paid upfront and is not counted against 2006 cash flow) Ryan Dempster - $5,000,000 Todd Walker - $2,500,000 Scott Williamson - $2,000,000 Glendon Rusch - $2,750,000 Certain or almost certain to be on the ballclub: Carlos Zambrano - $6,000,000 (estimated; eligible for arbitration) Matt Murton - $350,000 (this is the standard rate I use for 0-3 year, "auto renewal" players) Ronny Cedeno - $350,000 Will Ohman - $350,000 Michael Wuertz - $350,000 Subtotal (for 16 players) - $68,066,667 Assuming a payroll of $100,000,000, this leaves around $32,000,000 for 9 players: Starting CF Starting RF Starting SS 3 reserves (likely 2 OF and 1 IF) Starting P 2 Relief P
  22. It's just a formality for him to keep his options open.
  23. Mighty sorry about that. Skimmed right past it, I guess.
  24. Believe it or not, I'm walking on air. I never thought I could feel so free eee eee. Flying away on a wing and a prayer. Who could it be? Believe it or not it's just me. Believe it or not, George isn't at home. Please leave a message at the beep. I must be out, or I'd pick up the phone. Where could I be? Believe it or not I'm not home.
  25. I wonder if the Devil Rays would consider trading Rocco Baldelli and if the Cubs would have any interest there. He's not the masher that most of us want, but he seems like the kind of guy the Cubs might hold in high regard.
