  1. Wilkerson and Kearns are two possible trade targets. Both have the defensive profile to play RF.
  2. Milton Bradley will be eligible for free agency after the 2007 season.
  3. Is Bradley good enough on defense to play CF? Bradley is a top defender. He'd be a great fit for the team. Now, if only he were a "quality, quality" guy.
  4. If Hendry gets some AAAA flunkees and Baker puts them in left and 2nd once the rookies struggle this team will be right back to 2004-05. See Dunston/Enrique Wilson/Lenny Harris/Holla/Goodwin in the Baker file. Technically, Murton and Cedeno aren't rookies anymore. I wonder if that will sway Dusty's thinking? 8)
  5. why is it unlikely? I got into a discussion about this awhile back in another thread. I believe they are committed to Murton in LF and I cannot imagine any circumstance under which the Chicago Cubs would ever make offseason plans in which Cliff Floyd would be their RIGHT fielder.
  6. Why would we want Bobby Kielty? I don't see us dealing Walker before getting Furcal (or deciding we aren't in the running anymore). It doesn't do much good to go out and get two leadoff hitters (Roberts). Kielty and Roberts would both be extra guys.
  7. Walker to the Mets in a deal for Floyd* (if Giles doesn't work out)? Very unlikely, but maybe for Cameron?
  8. The Padres doesn't make sense since they have Loretta. Probably not, but he missed a lot of time with an injury last season and he was pretty awful after he returned. They may want some insurance. Of course, they may want some CF insurance, too. Oh, and they have Barfield also - I forgot about him.
  9. Walker to the Indians for David Riske? Walker to the Padres for Dave Roberts? Walker to the A's for Bobby Kielty? Add as necessary to even these deals out.

Can you buy "joy"? No, but you can rent it.
  11. If we don't get two leadoff types, Buttermaker is likely going to bat an outmaker second. Murton might be a good fit at #2, but I'd rather hit him sixth where he can focus on developing into a real run producer, rather than sacrificing all the time.
  12. By what measure is Jerome Williams a flyball pitcher?
  13. I'm not a big fan of Pierre, but he's not as bad as many people think he is. Nor is he as good as many people think he is. As long as we get Furcal, too, I'm OK with Pierre. Patterson and Mitre strikes me as reasonable, but I'd like to get a Marlins prospect back in that trade. Maybe add something else from our side and get Jason Vargas.
  14. I'd rather move CPatt, Mitre and whatever for an impact leadoff guy or power bat. Please be specific. Oh - and reasonable, too.
  15. If the Cubs are trading Zambrano to the Phillies, Utley had better be involved. Zambrano, Walker, Mitre, and Novoa for Abreu, Utley, and Madson.
  16. Also, how do you guys like Hairston for the Utility role? I like him for that role, but not at the $2.5 that he's probably going to get.
  17. If by "resigned" you mean "excited and hopeful", then yes.
  18. you can use Lofton as a defensive replacement in any of the outfield spots late in a game. Lofton is no longer a plus defensive outfielder. You can hang on to Patterson and see if he gets things straightened out. You can trade him at the deadline like every other team in baseball has done. He won't cost anymore than 1.5-2m at the most. At that cost, he's nothing but value for the production he provides. You can't pay Patterson less than $2.24, unless you non-tender him, thus making him a free agent, and he chooses to re-sign with you for less than that figure.
  19. If Encarnacion were batting fifth, we'd be "in trouble". If he's batting third, we'd be the worst team in the history of organized baseball.
  20. Well, it's early in the offseason, so I'm feeling especially optimistic.
  21. Milton Bradley, Brian Giles, Rafael Furcal, and B.J. Ryan. Please.
  22. The gnome that lives in my office here at work.
  23. The chance of Kerry Wood being traded for Alfonso Soriano is exactly zero.
  24. Nobody is going to give even half-value in trade for Wood until they see him pitch in spring training. By then, everyone's budget will be spent. Wood will be a Cub in 2006. And I'm glad.
  25. Did the 2005 White Sox show any pattern of scoring first a lot more often than the opposition and, if so, could that be credited to Podsednik at all? Getting ahead early is a frequently underappreciated aspect of baseball.
