  1. Burnitz's numbers last season suggested that there would be a significant dropoff - even over and above the Coors effect - which there has been. Jones' numbers suggest that there might be a little bit more there if you can get him out of the Metrodome.
  2. I like Murton fine, but I'd like to see him do something more than have a nice batting average based on an unsustainable BABIP before I make him a starting corner outfielder on a supposed contender. How about driving the ball once in a while?
  3. Jacque Jones? Yech. Not every spot can be an All-Star. Jones is an outstanding defender, an underappreciated hitter, and he plays every day (unlike some losers I won't mention).
  4. Jacque Jones, Adam Greenberg, and Brian Giles in left, center, and right. Aramis Ramirez, Rafael Furcal, Julio Lugo, and Derrek Lee from third to first. Michael Barrett behind the plate.
  5. Who at SS? Either Furcal or Cedeno would be fine.
  6. At those terms, sign him the same day he declares free agency.
  7. the potential retirement of Greg Maddux Ha! There's no way he's walking away from nine million bucks. After all, a guy's gotta eat (and play golf, too).
  8. When Nomar starts to play well, let me know, OK?
  9. Can we please have the real Nomar Garciaparra back? Sadly, this is the real Nomar. He's an utterly awful baseball player.
  10. What exactly he's writing, of course, is anybody's guess "I like donuts."
  11. He might get a 3 yr contract, but definitely at not over 10M per. Wanna bet?
  12. sign Giles (and most likely have to overpay) to a two year deal probably 18M or so $18/2 is overpaying for Giles? LOL! Good luck trying to get him for that kind of sorry Alou type money. I'd give him $42/4 and be quite happy.
  13. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-050814cubsbits,1,5854849.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines
  14. Sign Brian Giles to 2 year $12 million deal. Completely unfeasible in every sense of the word. Sign A J Burnett to 5 year $60 million deal. Feasible, but risky. Trade Matt Murton, Rich Hill, Jerome Williams to Reds for Adam Dunn. I would definitely add a couple lower minor leaguers if need be to make this deal happen. Even less feasible than the Giles idea, if that's possible. Trade Corey Patterson, Ronny Cedeno, Sergio Mitre to Seattle for their closer Eddie G. Feasible, but foolish.
  15. That wasn't Angel in that boxscore. That was Bubba Guzman, a non-drafted free agent. Angel has had his right arm immobilized in a shoulder-to-wrist cast.
  16. Just say no to Nomar. At this point, he's nothing more than an acceptable complementary player. Unfortunately, he plays a position where he have a good, cheap guy ready to plug in.
  17. That batting average won't stay that high with that many strikeouts. His batting average won't stay that high even if he reduces his Ks to zero.
  18. Walker and Rusch were the two that should have been traded.
  19. That was Walker's fault with that fruity little flip of his. If you have a DVR, rewind and take another look.
  20. Wouldn't we have to put him on the 40-man roster before we could take him off?
  21. Bruce may very well be right about Remlinger. Remember that when the three walking wounded are activated, someone will have to be removed from the 40-man roster. Grieve has been mentioned, but they may wish to keep him around past September 1st as a pinch-hitter. The only minor leaguers that are in even theoretical danger of being removed from the 40-man roster are Richard Lewis, John Koronka, and Jon Leicester. Of those, only Leicester will be out of options next spring and my bet is they still hold out hope for him. Lewis has been awful this year, but they may want to give him one more season. Koronka may be needed in that Iowa-starting-pitcher-at-the-ready role next season. If it were up to me, I'd deroster Lewis and keep Remlinger.
  22. I think our Personage of Historical Significance hit the nail on the head.
  23. Milledge is better than Pie, and Cameron is a little better than Gerut. If what you actually mean is that Pie is better than Milledge and Cameron is much better than Gerut, then I agree.
  24. Cruz is just depth to help deal with the injury to Trot Nixon.
