Drese is obviously nothing special, but, if getting him meant we could use Jerome Williams in a deal for a genuine #5 hitter, I'd make that trade for Patterson. The difference between Williams and Drese isn't going to determine whether this team goes to the playoffs. The 2006 Cubs are going to need a significant contribution from Kerry Wood (or, in the alternative, a significant contribution from a surprise starting pitcher like Rich Hill or Angel Guzman).
