  1. Again, I hope not for Sam's sake. 27 is old for an MLB rookie, especially for a position player. There are exceptions to every rule, no doubt. Age relative to level is still a very useful evaluation tool. Very true. Here's hoping Fuld's performance over the next couple years warrants a rapid rise in the Cubs system.
  2. Why do you think Griffey would okay a trade? He's seemed pretty set on remaining in Cincinnati to date. I think anyone is tradeable. Threaten to put him on the bench, and he suddenly becomes more open to moving on. I think you're oversimplifying things. Players exercise 10/5 rights and no trade clauses all the time.

  4. Who knew? He hit .243/.295/.515 as a 26-year-old at AA. It would be an amazing story, but it's a stretch to call him a legit hitting prospect.
  5. Do you agree that age relative to level is very important when evaluating the potential of a prospect? Sounds good to me. I do think that Fuld needs to establish himself at AA next year at some point to have a legitimate shot at the Bigs. Very true. I just hope it doesn't take Fuld three full seasons to reach the majors, and I suspect that was CPatterson20's point.
  6. Welcome, Len. Thanks for the kind words about the site. Come back soon and enjoy your stay.
  7. This is getting silly. You seem to be grasping at straws now. I'm out.
  8. It's Wikipedia's definition. Can you find another on that doesn't mention the Cy Young being an award for the best pitcher in the league? What do you think the award is for? The most productive pitcher, maybe? The most valuable pitcher, maybe? The pitcher who has helped his team the most? Couldn't find a different definition, huh?
  9. That fact is already included in the number of runs they've given up this year.

  11. What is the Cy Young award? That's what I typed into Google. Here's the first response: "In baseball, the Cy Young Award is an honor given annually to the best pitchers in the Major Leagues. The award was first introduced in 1956 by Commissioner Ford Frick in honor of Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young who passed away in 1955. The award was originally given to the single best pitcher in the major leagues. In 1967, the practice began of honoring one pitcher in each league."
  12. There seems to be more name calling than discussion going on in this thread lately. Let's keep things civil.
  13. Or that Carpenter is a better pitcher than Clemens... :D
  14. That's his point, the expected wins/loss means our pitchers are not as "good" (comparatively or isolated) as their win/loss indicates. It also suggest that W-L records are a poor way to evaluate a pitcher's performance.
  15. That's technically true but Cards pitchers are 31 games over .500 when they should be 10, and Cubs pitchers are 6 games over .500 when they should be 2.
  16. Fair enough. Doesn't pitching count as talent? They've been able to trade a number of these "joke" positional players for very productive players, though. They should get some credit for that, right?
  17. Oh no, please why dont you just tell everyone the "real" reason I dislike Walker, since you have such insight into what I think. I have expressed quite clearly my reason for not liking him, and those reasons have been the same long before he was ever a cub. I guess it is easier to make condescending generalizations just because i dont follow the herd. Uh oh. You used "herd." Fan those flames.
  18. Why are you excluding pitchers?
  19. Derrick and Wilkins made their MLB debut in the past 15 years. I listed the other two because you mentioned Grace, Dunston, Carter, etc.
  20. Dave Martinez (6480 PA) Damon Berryhill (2208) Dwight Smith (1987) Joe Girardi (4435) Rich Wilkins (2435) Derrick May (2386) Doug Glanville (4282) Corey Patterson (2253) All these players made thier MLB debuts with the Cubs. Not sure if all were drafted by the Cubs.
  21. Absolutely. Great.
  22. Relaxing after work, watching TV. Okay by you? If you have a problem with a post or poster in the future, I suggest you PM a mod about it. Hard to be everywhere at once.
  23. His arm is weak for second. i've heard that he was a SS in his earlier Japan days before arm problems made him become a 2B. That's correct. He played 3 years at SS before a shoulder injury necessitated a move to 2B.
  24. I think more than one, too. He served jail time for his latest one.
  25. Why is it worth 20+ pages of effort for you to argue with a bunch of Cubs fans if you believe we're so biased? I think many here are "testy" because you seem to be ignoring an avalanche of statistical evidence. I know you've freely admitted your fan bias on many occasions. I suspect many are just surprised -- and frustrated -- by it's extent.
