Probably not. The Cubs would get some additional exposure in the Japanese press, but they're certainly a known commodity over there. I guess it couldn't hurt, but two out of the last three big name Japanese free agents have signed with teams that didn't have a player from Japan on their roster already, and Iguchi and Shingo didn't know each other at all before they were teammates this year.
He also signed Estes, re-signed Alfonseca after a awful first year with the Cubs, and signed Remlinger to a terribly inflated contract. I tend to like his trades more than his free agent signings, though.

Why? Williams is younger and has the higher ceiling. Sounds a bit like gamblers' logic to me. "I started out with $50, got it up to $500 and then lost it all, but I really only lost $50 because that's what I walked in with."
He has a clause in his contract that makes him a free agent after this season. Yanks will do their best to keep him. He is a solid player that brings in many times the $ that it cost them to sign him since they sealed a Japanese cable contract after signing Matsui. I'm pretty sure overseas TV broadcasting rights belong to MLB as a whole. But I agree the Yankees will do their best to keep him and, more importantly, I think Hideki wants to stay.
When he brings it to your door, does he say "Pepperoni, WOO! Hamburger, WOO!, Bread Sticks, WOO!" Hamburger? On pizza? Ick. But it'd expect nothing less on a pizza delivered by Ronnie.
