  1. Lets just freaking hire someone already
  2. HUGE surprise but he got to conduct the band at tonight's game so obviously he made the right choice http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8368/8366493428_0d615d9108_z.jpg Wow. I was so sure he'd be one that I forgot he even had eligibility left.
  3. Grrr, Ohio State would have been destroyed by Alabama too. Five teams in the final Top 10. We own college football. Florida doesn't belong.
  4. Surprising fact of the day - Porcello was 1.4 WAR pitcher last year at age 23.
  5. Emery doesnt strike me as that shortsighted. A great way to fill a need is with a first round talent. He'll trade up if need be. Sure he could trade down for the right value, but I wouldn't bet on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I can see a trade down if there is a QB on the board that someone wants to take before the Jags pick in the 2nd. But I only see a trade if the Bears are dead set on drafting a TE with their 1st pick. Eifert and Ertz would both be overdrafts at 20, and at least 1 should be there if you go back to the top 7-10 of the 2nd round. I don't really like either idea. A lot will depend on the new coach though. If you don't take a TE with your first pick, might as well stay at 20 and draft the best OT, OG, LB available. My question is whether the guy at 20 is really that much better than the guy at 35 plus the chance to draft a TE in the 2nd Round (where many quality receivers and TE's can be found) and another OL in the 3rd round.
  6. I am guessing the Bears will trade out of the first round. They have too many immediate needs.
  7. How is this not nearly every player/coach in the history of sports ever? It might be, but for whatever reason I guess Jay comes off that way moreso. I agree there seems to be something of an inexplicable double standard.
  8. Seattle might be a little lucky, but they will beat Atlanta next week. I'd pick them to beat SF, but not GB.
  9. Yes, that's a big part of it. It's the only part of it. I personally love Jay and consider him a sort of cult hero, but I can see how some people might find him challenging to work with. When he's pissed (and not saying he doesnt have the right to be at times) he can sometimes come off as a dick. As a fan it makes him fun and refreshing, but I understand how some of his coaches or teammates might feel otherwise.
  10. How in the world can you possibly say what style of offense the Bears will play in the future? Especially if Jay isn't here after next season.
  11. I agree it isn't that old, and even successful coaches will leave an organization after a few years, so it's not as though we should manate a ten year run out of anyone. That said, I'd rather try to capture that lightning similar to what NO andmGB did with Sean Payton and Mike McCarthy.
  12. I was listening this morning too. I got the feeling that if Myers was asked to choose between Holmgren and one of the up-and-comers like McCoy or Clements, he would have went with an up-and-comer. I agree with him that I would prefer Holmgren over John Gruden though. Personally, I worry that Holmgren cannot keep up with a head coaching gig any more. I would pass. People do realize that Clements is 58, right? Holmgren is only a few years older. I'm thinking McCoy is the better choice.
  13. This is going to be fascinating from a personnel perspective. If we hire a guy who wants to go with a 3-4 it's going to require some major changes on D. Do you plan on standing Peppers up? That means he plays with Briggs, Roach and another LB. Could you protect Urlacher in that system? Where does a system guy like Jennings fit in? Melton on the end (can't play NT in a 3-4; too small)?
  14. Lovie wouldn't be a bad hire for any of these teams. He's a good defensive coach and players love him. That's good enough to get you 8 or 9 wins most years, with the occasional 10 or 11. which would be a huge improvement for teams like Buffalo, Arizona and Cleveland.
  15. Did you miss the Hester drama? No - but does he really count? Jay was lukewarm at best, but that's just Jay probably. I'd be interested to hear from guys like Marshall, Forte, Bennett, and Garza.
  16. They love them some former Bears coaches there.
  17. Smart. He's still living down the shite job he did in Denver.
  18. I guess they have to play right away so I get it, but way to deliver a message through the media there, Mike.
  19. Quick look at twitter shows the defensive players lamenting Lovie's departure. Haven't noticed anything similar from offensive players, unless I missed something.
  20. And that's life in the big city. These guys should all get how it works, and if not then they are rather unrealistic. I called the McCoy interview a few weeks back (yes, patting myself on the back). Really hope they get him.
  21. That's not true. I disagree. Go look at Football Outsiders. They have the number one ranked defense in terms of efficiency, the 4th ranked ST, and the 24th ranked offense. Basically this means that if the defense isn't damn near perfect they're screwed. I realize history will show that some teams can win this way (2000 Ravens come to mind), but I'd venture to say that it's the exception rather than the rule. Also, the Bears SOS has been tough, but not as hard as it might look on paper. Again according to Football Outsiders, Detroit's has actually been a bit tougher, as has Minnesota's, Seattle's, and San Fran's. Football Outsiders also has an estimated win tool to figure out how their ratings should correspond to record. They have the Bears at 10.6 estimated wins so far. Considering they are 6th in their overall ratings, that seems pretty consistent with where they think the Bears are. I did a poor job of summarizing my point, which was that they need their defense to play lights -out or close thereto in each and every game in order for the Bears to win, as evidenced by the fact that their offense is amongst the League's worst. If the D were just a notch or two lower they'd be on pace for 7 or 8 wins. In general, needing your D to play that well all the time isn't likely to lead to success Sure its possible this team will pull a 2000 Ravens, it just isn't very likely.

  23. I predict we will lose by 14. You aren't going to beat up on Detroit's offense like you did Arizona, and our offense isn't good. The Bears are fortunate to be in this position at all. They are a lot closer to being a 7-9 team than a 10-6 team.
  24. This is an impressive freaking win.
