  1. What rumors? That he is not going to be able to make a comeback? There was speculation that our pitcher-hoarding behavior indicated real concern with Garza's health by the front office. Could be. Just as likely as that we are acquiring an abundance of affordable ML assets that are tradeable for position players.
  2. Bourn appears to be a far better fielder than Pierre. The better comparison to Bourn appears to be Brett Butler, who was a consistent 3.0 - 4.0 WAR player for about 10 years.
  3. This would be a very nice offseason if we could snag Jackson and Bourn on 4 year deals. I'm not in love with Bourn, but you can't deny his production in CF (over 4.7 WAR 3 out of the last 5 years, including 6 WAR last season.). EDIT: And just for the record he was hurt for 2/3 of 2011 and still logged about 1 WAR.
  4. I didn't realize we draft so poorly. That is depressing. Now that I think of it, there is probably a heavy correlation between shitty OLines and crappy drafting.

  6. Arians and Kelley are both interesting to me. Reid, nooooooo. Cowher...meh. He just doesn't seem like much of a change from Live. Yeah, he yells more and gets mad face more. I want an offensive coach. This is an offensive league. I want a real offense, with some creativity. I want an offensive coach too, but Chip Kelley strikes me as the kind of college coach who will have a very difficult time adapting his system to the pros, and Cutler would probably hate him. Arians would be a much better fit, and I'm intrigued by McCoy. I'd also poach whoever I could from GB.
  7. Knock me over with a feather!
  8. Really? Over Cowher? Yes. Not interested. Care to elaborate? I think he was a pretty good coach. Would you rather have Nick Saban? Jon Gruden? Bruce Arians? Andy Reid? Chip Kelley? EDIT: Mike McCoy from Denver?
  9. Really? Over Cowher?
  10. Kinda funny that Lovie's kid represents him. Absolutely NO to McDaniels. I'd run hard after Gruden or Cowher. Gruden is a good offensive coach and Cowher seems to know not to try and coach without a good OC. Problem with Cowher is that he wants to run the 3-4, and I doubt we have the personnel for that (Can Peppers play OLB? Would it extend his career somewhat? I dunno.). And for the love of God, can we please get some help on the OLine? That might make even Lovie look good.
  11. I've read several places that the O's are looking for a RH power bat. Wouldn't Soriano make a ton of sense?
  12. Very smart, low-risk move. Get him back to 2011 level of production and you have a 2.5 WAR player for $2 mill. You can maximize his value by platooning - Loney has a nearly .800 OPS for his career against RH pitching. Rays' front office continues to impress.
  13. I will admit, it's hard from that angle to tell if it was helmet to helmet at all. It's still illegal to "launch" yourself at a guy and leave your feet isn't it? "Launching" can be a fine/suspension worthy play if it's deemed bad enough, right? Launching is illegal in certain situations, like with a defenseless receiver, although doubtful with an open field block. But much like the Steltz hit on the guy laying near the sideline, it's a play that is generally accepted as part of the game but completely unnecessary and should be banned. I don't know that launching in and of itself is illegal (this isn't hockey), but the helmet to helmet part should be a no-no.
  14. We are going to need another O-Lineman and a WR at minimum this week. WR probably comes from practice squad. O-Lineman will have to come off the street, no?
  15. I'd give Carimi another year inasmuch as he looked good before getting hurt last year, so what's happened this year doesn't make a lot of sense. But I'd probably send everyone else packing, except maybe Garza if you are concerned with maintaining some level of cohesion. Draft as follows: OL, TE, LB, OL, DE, OL, LB Free agency: WR, TE, OL and backup QB. Here's a few possible targets (asterisk next to my preference) Matt Moore Drew Stanton* Fred Davis Dustin Keller* Jared Cook Danny Amendola* Wes Welker Ryan Clady* Brandon Albert Brandon Moore* Andy Levitre EDIT: Keep in mind that Idonije and Melton are FA's.
  16. http://assets0.ordienetworks.com/images/GifGuide/michael_scott/Michael-What-the-office-10400786-400-226.gif It would be like trying to turn Vogelbach into a CF. I know defensive metrics leave much to be desired, but for his career he's a -7.8 UZR (most of the time in LF). He has played 274 innings in CF (217 in 2005) and is a -14.8 there with his last year he logged any innings there being 2005. He also hasn't had an OPS over .750 since 2009 and he was absolutely awful this past season (70 games) Which is why I asked - that info certainly suggests that the answer is "no".
  17. Not to mention they work a lot more than 16 days a year. Practices, OTA's, minicamps, etc. Florio would presumably respond that none of those days matter near as much 16 days on which you play games. I would respond that not every couple can say, "Let's get pregers in August or September" and magically make it go to plan. Many people have to try for a while for lots of reasons.
  18. Assuming the Uptons aren't acquired, can Jason Bay play center? Bringing him at the league minimum with incentives might be worth a shot, IMO.
  19. I started to write a very similar post then I noticed this one. Very well written, and very likely the reality (especially the bit about 3B). It's not what we all want, but Theo and Jed are trying to reverse 10-plus years of poor leadership around player development, finances, and culture in general. It's going to take some time.
  20. Yes, all one has to do is watch Harden to know he's damn good. That was the case in AAU/high school, college, and the NBA. He's been significantly better than Lamb at the first two stops and I see little reason that changes in the NBA. (Yes, I know there is a journeyman and two draft picks also in the trade.) Kevin Martin is a journeyman? This is his third team after relatively long tenures in two cities. His career PER is over 18 and he's had several seasons over 20. The concern with Martin is his durability/injury history, but he's in his walk year and there will be several talented players hitting the market this offseason. I wouldn't be surprised if they use that cash for a forward like Josh Smith, but there will be several solid SG's out there as well (AI, Ellis, and Mayo, to name a few).
  21. He also isn't going to have 1 top 3 player and another top 15 player on the court to create more space and not have the defense focus on him. He's a fine addition for the Rockets, but they won't be winning anything with him. Even if you could prove that to be true, that still doesn't justify the [expletive] ass return they got for him. Harden is a great shooter, can create and can finish. His efficiency numbers may take a bit of a hit, but his volume numbers are only going explode and he's going to be one of the best 2 guards in the league for the next decade. Hollinger made a pretty good argument that OKC got more for Harden than the Magic did for Howard.
  22. I love the 3-4 for some reason. I realize it is irrational, but it just seems so much more dangerous to me...probably because the Bears have pretty much never been able to block it.
  23. I'd love to add a center, guard and tackle to this offense. What's the over/under on how many more false start penalties will Garza have this year?
  24. I agree that OKC lost this trade in the short term. Lamb isn't likely to be as good as Harden is now at any time in his career. But let's see what happens with those picks. If Lamb becomes a good scoring 6th man and the picks hit it is a different story, especially since Houston is still going to be mediocre regardless.
