  1. Some of what is written above is what went through my head when I was thinking whether I'd give up Baez, Soler, plus two single-A pieces. Ultimately I probably would not, but I would definitely think long and hard about it. None of us here know for certain what Baez and Soler will be. Baez's K-rate will undoubtedly go down as he matures and sees more ML AB's, but does the fact that he's a MIF'er bridge the sizable gap between his and Stanton's production? Will Soler approach Stanton's production? Very doubtful as Stanton appears to be a Top 5 in his generation talent, but I honestly don't know. Like I said, I probably would say "no" and offer one of the two of them (Soler and Baez) plus Almora and several other pieces. I doubt that would get it done, but that doesn't necessarily mean we should up the value.
  2. wouldnt even think twice. Yeah, if that's the deal you say "accepted" before Miami says "withdrawn". That would be theft.
  3. How about signing a veteran who was cut? A returner.... What a surprise that I want a returner...just one professional returner...
  4. Jesus, that is some fascinating logic. Michael Sam released; St Louis says they want him on the practice squad.
  5. 24 years-old, 5th season, career line of .271 .365 .540 .905 (144 OPS+), in midst of a 6.2 WAR season... I suspect the conversation (from Miami's point of view) begins with Baez, Soler, and at least two others from the lower-levels.
  6. Couple of thoughts: 1) Coghlan is likely to get a a hefty raise in arbitration this offseason. I'd say he comes in at closer to 2 mill than 1 mill. 2) Why are we focused on Lester to the exclusion of Scherzer? Shouldn't we be happy with landing either? Its possible someone picked up on something about Max that I missed...
  7. Stafford is a big guy. Jay has a little beer gut. Jay wins.
  8. Yeah, I'd understand if they were moving Florida (Miami), Tampa Bay, Phoenix, and Nashville to those four cities. There's no way they will move one FL team without the other, and it creates a problem in terms of the recently realigned divisions and conferences. EDIT: I take that back. Moving those four teams to Toronto, QC, Vegas and Seattle would in-fact make sense even in terms of the newly realigned conferences / divisions.
  9. I agree that if Soler has a career OBP of .323 it would be disappointing. He probably won't be Vlad either (.379 career OBP). If he finished somewhere in-between I'd be happy. I'm really just trying to manage my own expectations.
  10. Bryant continues to get sold short. If I'm a betting man and I have to place a bet on who will have a better career OPS between Bryant, Baez, and Soler- I'm taking Bryant and giving odds. But I'm not a betting man. Agreed. If I were to guess, for Bryant's numbers will be similar to David Wright's (maybe Chipper Jones'), Soler's to Andre Dawson (Vlad if we are lucky), and Baez to no one I can think of who played the vast majority of his games at a MIF position.

  12. Damn, this in a way makes me wish he wasn't cut. The vibe I get is that Emery and Trestman are pretty straight forward with the players and they know where they stand.

  14. Should be fun for a quarter or two.
  15. Yeah, people who can afford to own sports franchises live in a different universe from the rest of us. It would be rare for them to behave in a way that we would find endearing. BTW, for Howard Stern fans out there, I ran into Ronnie the Limo the Driver, his girlfriend Stephanie, Mike Gange, and Steve Brandano under the stands near RF during the rain delay on Saturday v. the O's. Gange was very friendly; we had a brief convo about the delay and when the game might start again. Ronnie, on the other hand, was every bit the grumpy old a-hole he comes off as on the air. He refused to make eye contact and seemed genuinely pissed off that it was raining and he had been recognized by someone in the crowd. In any case, it was a cool experience and verifies that these guys are pretty real when they are on the air.
  16. I know I am beating this drum frequently and loudly, but I just hope Williams is good enough to at least return them without fumbling every 4th or 5th time.
  17. Pretty easy call I think. Agreed. Senn and Reynaurd are gone as well. Jacoby Ford was released by the Jets. Can he return kicks?
  18. I guess he is getting older. BTW, GIS for "fat linebackers": http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ShK35_6rfNI/Ufvf0RaPnqI/AAAAAAAADU8/d7bw_D-ez6M/s1600/Fat+Lady.jpg
  19. I hate to say this, but Clausen ([expletive] ing ND) is better than Palmer

  21. I thought he looked overweight last season as well.
  22. LMFAO - Renaurd just made his first and only play for the team
  23. Peanut needs to go home and watch some film. He was WAY out of position there.
