  1. these ratings, especially in one game, have to be taken with a large grain of salt. I guess they are statical noise? I really respect and enjoy learning about advanced metrics, but the more I look at them in terms of predicting football outcomes the more I wonder about the methodology. Example - was Rodgers really a worse QB than Kapernick last season (per Football Outsiders' DVOA, he was). Luck was only the 14th best QB in the league last season? I guess that's all possible, just doesn't seem probable.
  2. like, from the snap or eventually as the play broke down? The way I heard it talked about on the radio, sounds like from the snap. I'll give him some slack since its his third week on the team, but between that and half the Bears secondary playing zone and the other playing man on the most critical play of last season, this team is pretty stupid. It looked to me like he got jammed and then gave up because the timing was screwed, but I could be wrong.
  3. He missed one block in about 30 drop backs. I don't get this rating either. Though I do agree that Ratliff was a beast yesterday.
  4. How in [expletive]'s name did Briggs rate a positive number? He got blown off the ball the entire first half and made the very well dissected horrible read in the second. Losing respect for PFF's system.
  5. Yikes. Jermon Bushrod and Brandon Marshall each had more tackles than DJ Williams. It made me laugh when Johnston was complimenting the run support that Jennings and Tillman provide. What choice do they have?
  6. Conte's pick was off a blitz; good things happen when you get pressure. Let's see what happens next week, but I am very concerned by the defensive scheme. On the plus side, assuming Jeffrey's hamstring is okay, SF lost both starting CBs today, and most of SF's points came on idiotic play from America's Saddest QB True, though Kapernick looked pretty good and has torn us up in the past.

  8. Holmes slipped Yes, but that ball was thrown into tight coverage late. That's Jay's thing - instead of throwing one away he will force it. Also, yes, all QB's throw balls that should be picked. But Jay probably throws one or two more per-game than most for the reason I just discussed above. I'm not hating on Jay; I love Jay. But that's just what you have to live with with him.
  9. My two cents: - The second of Cutler's two picks was on him; the first was on Martellus. Jay should have thrown the second one away and he admitted that in the post game presser. That said, he nearly threw another in OT. - There were several dropped passes. Spurlock was wide open twice and dropped both of his targets. He should never play again. - Conte told the press he was trying to strip Jackson rather than tackle him because - regardless - Buffalo was already in FG range. Guess he doesn't realize that it is harder to kick a FG from 20-30 yards further out. He made a nice play closing on that pick, but his tackling still sucks. By the way, he had the opportunity for that pick because Manuel was forced out of the pocket, which brings me to... - The D overall is tackling much better than last year, but they still can't generate pressure on the QB. Without it they will eventually be screwed. - Matt Forte is still the best player on the team; Marshall is a close second.
  10. Hoke deserves to be fired on the basis of today's game. How does a healthy team go on the road against a rival and get their asses handed to them like that? ND isn't that much more talented than Mich. Fire Hoke
  11. Get yourself good players and a decent coordinator. Then it doesn't matter who the HC is. Payton has had several DC's over the years (Greg Williams, Rob Ryan and - IIRC - Steve Spagnola). Get a good one and get out of his way.
  12. Towers [expletive] canned: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/diamondbacks-fire-kevin-towers.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29
  13. Because they have a negative run differential. YOU DON'T SAY Way to extricate that from the larger quote. Nicely done.

  15. Yeah, they've been all over Javy. I've been surprised that the national media hasn't latched on a bit harder.
  16. Because they have a negative run differential. Its only -3 now, but they have significantly closed the gap over the last 10 or so days (I thin it was -25 last week). Based on pythag they have been the luckiest team in baseball (+7); the Yankees are second (+6); Royals are next (+5).
  17. He will never win - he doesn't handle himself "the right way".
  18. I am also fascinated by unlucky teams. Seattle rates. Their pythag is 80-57; actual is 74-63. On the surface it looks like the pythag is driven by the pitching staff, because their hitters aren't that much better than the Cubs'.
  19. Nice AB for him there. JD wanted him swing at 3-0, which of course contradicts all of the adjustments he is making.
  20. I am fascinated by the Rangers. What a mess of underperforming, expensive vets (sans Beltre and Darvish, I guess) and middling or flat-out bad prospects. How are they going to fix this? They are effectively in the opposite situation that the Cubs are. The Bizzaro Cubs, if you will.
  21. They must feel like he can pick up the blitz on 3rd down. Either that or he is the backup in every sense and won't even pinch-hit for him every 4th series or whatever.
  22. Disagree with you guys re Forte. He's one of a handful of RB's who are exceptional inasmuch as they run, catch, and block at a high-level. Plus he rarely misses games. He's not just another back.
  23. In terms of potential headline prospects to trade for Stanton, here's how I'd rank them (from least to most untouchable): 1) Baez 2) Schwarber (hasn't been mentioned as a headliner, but he deserves to be, IMO. Guy is simply killing it.) 3) Russell 4) Soler 5) Bryant
  24. Dunn to A's for Nolan Sanburn: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/chi-adam-dunn-trade-talks-20140831-story.html
  25. I love Jorge, but I don't think we can possibly know at this juncture whether he will be Stanton. Its certainly possible, but do how can you be sure? BTW, I agree Javy before Jorge. If they will take Baez, Almora, Vogelbach and two more lower-level pieces, you do it.
