  1. Looks like you got Berkman on the cheap b/c he is off to a slow start, but Cuddyer is underrated, IMO.
  2. I still say Murt should start, but I agree with your last sentence.
  3. The Trib article this morning seemed to indicate that he is out at least one more day. I personally would let him rest until they at least the last game of the SD series, and maybe just wait until they got down to Atl where it is likely to be warmer.
  4. I just wish that at critical junctures in the game Ron would remember not to step all over Pat. I just want to hear what happened and then Ron can be as emotional as he wants. Other than that bit of nit-picking, I enjoy them, and actually have heard Ron make some decent observations this year.
  5. That makes a lot more sense than having Ronny and Cesar in the same lineup. If Lou has a secondary fault here its that he is a bit too concerned about defense and is handicaping the lineup as such.
  6. Prove it. Also, GO SAMMY! Corks to start (I still supported him through that one, BTW). And that "prove it" nonsense is no argument at all. It essentially responds to the argument by saying "That's what you think." It ignores substantial circumstantial evidence that points to him have used substances he shouldn't have. You and I both know what I am talking about, so I won't bother repeating all of it. I was going to write something but there is obviously no point. The good thing is that you aren't biased; I mean your user name reveals you to be highly objective. Appreciate the eye roll by the way. Look, I have much love for my heros too - look at my user name. And I loved Sammy intensely for a good many years - I was there for his 60th dong in 98' and cheered my head off. But if I am going to be intellectually honest with myself I have to deal with the fact that there is evidence to indicate Sammy used performance enhancing substances. Can I show you a pic of him shooting up? Of course not. But I can show you: - That he was substantially bigger prior to the Congressional hearings. - That his performance and skills eroded incredibly quickly thereafter - That he was incredibly smaller when he first came up with the Rangers and Sox. - That he dodged and refused to meet head-on Rick Reilly's arrogant attempts at cornering him. - That he all of a sudden couldn't understand english when Congress wanted to ask him questions about the issue. - Etc., etc. It doesn't make me happy to feel this way, but I can't ignore it either.

  8. Yeah, cause we never go off on related tangents around here...
  9. Except that the "blah blah blah" part can be translated to "Sammy achieved at least part of his success by cheating and Ernie did not." But go on and keep your head in the sand if you like. Sammy was a great player whose image is indelibly tarnished and methodology is very much in question, in my view.
  10. Reminds me of another Cubs manager. Now there's a logical leap - Piniella doesn't play Murton every day so he's Dusty Part II. I'd prefer that Murt play over Cliff too, but please. Piniella couldn't be more different from Dusty in the way he has handled this team thus far. Some of you really are fixated on Dusty too much. Its like some kind of sick obsession.
  11. That would be Hibbert and Green, but neither have signed with agents. I believe Chandler did hire an agent - dumb move.
  12. Are we resorting to dissecting him to figure out what's wrong? When all else fails, revert back to high school biology.
  13. Sandberg, Lee, ARam. What do these gentlemen have in common with Fonz? : Slow starters (traditionally, with certain exceptions). I found yesterday's loss to be deplorable and a nasty reminder of how badly this team is capable of playing, but the good news is that: 1) Its very, very early; 2) The manager had a very different approach after the game than we have seen recently.
  14. I get the feeling that Lou retreated to his office and took a shot of 25 yr old scotch, then listened to some Mettalica (likely their first album "Kill em' All") and came out to chew some a**. Then he went home, had a good meal, and went to sleep. 30 to 40 ft curveballs. Give em' Lou! If we are going to lose, at least this manager is going to feel like we do about it.
  15. I always figured Wood was flawed - he throws so severely across his body; but Prior was supposed to be Seaver-like in his mechanics. Some of you may remember Kevin Appier and his very funny delivery. When he came up with KC people marveled at his talent, but the general thought was that he was a "blow out waiting to happen". He had his share of injuries like any other picther, but he also became a pretty reliable starter over his 16 years. These things seem very unpredictible and non-quantifiable.
  16. How is Lou responsible for the fact that freakin Ohman couldn't throw a strike. So who made the decision to put Ohman in? He should have put in Wuertz to begin with. I'm sure everyone on here would have made that call. I agree that I would have put Wuertz in due to the juncture of the game, but again, how the hell should Lou have known that Ohman would be that bad? You put a pro pitcher in and you expect them to at least throw a freaking strike,
  17. How is Lou responsible for the fact that freakin Ohman couldn't throw a strike.
  18. I think Wuertz should be the only reliever. Trade everyone else for a starting picther and a SS who can hit a ball out of the infield.
  19. Why is it so freakin hard to throw a freakin strike
  20. Why does this crap only happen to us? At least the other bad teams are never really in the games they lose.
  21. What's the point of releasing Prior? He's under contract and the Cubs probably can't get anyone for him until he shows he can pitch. I'm putting him out of my thoughts until he starts pitching in games either in the minors or majors. Where did I advocate releasing him? My point is that he shouldn't sniff the majors again until he shows he can stay healthy for more than 10 days pitching at full speed. Aren't you at all frustrated by this?
  22. At what point do we view Mark as damaged goods? I know that people who have alleged as much around here have been met with much criticism, but at what point do you just figure he is chronically hurt and will never be reliable (whatever the cause)?
  23. I don't get why this was a bad idea. He got benched for a game and learned a lesson. BFD.
