  1. Why can't it be before the Thursday game? I don't understand why the NFL insists on sending teams out there on 3 days rest late in the season. Use the byes for teams playing on Thanksgiving and every Thursday game. I'dd rather have it where it is - just before they have to swing out to the coast twice in two weeks.
  2. Is this a joke? I'm hoping both of his posts are. Geez, lay off the guy.
  3. So what, were just going to bash the team until they start winning? I'd like to look at more positive things I guess. YES. this is a message board, people are going to react in an extreme way. Phew, wow, I guess I'd better get used to it then. people are going to react in an extreme way, but i think concerns about the offense and roster are legit. and when the cubs lose, people are more likely to point out the flaws. True dat.

  5. Who's "us"?
  6. You don't understand why some people aren't satisfied with the makeup of the roster? First off, you know it's flawed if Jim Hendry put it together. People want the Cubs to be the best team in baseball and win the world series. Their roster as it stands probably has them no better than a little above average, if all works out. What is there to understand? That's a meaningless, hyperbolic statement.
  7. Depends on several factors and info we don't have access to, including teh language of the collective bargaining agreement between the union and league, precedent-setting arbitrations, etc.
  8. I think many of you are missing his point, and if you weren't looking for Dusty, you might find someone you like named Lou. I thhink he is saying that the team is built on power rather than guys who can get on-base via BBs, singles, etc. This type of team is less effective in cold weather in Wrigley (or anywhere else) b/c the wind is generally blowing in, thus knocking down fly balls. If you read the entire statement, you will note that Lou first brought this up in the context of a discussion he had with Jim Hendry, who he refers to as "the general maanager". If you read these comments carefully and without prejudice, Lou is admitting something here and perhaps being critical of the makeup of the team and the person who put it together. Thus, Lou is talking about something we all have been complianing about for years.
  9. For those haven't looked at the Pac Man Jones thread, Mortenson said on ESPN Radio that Tank shouldn't count on playing this year. If he's half right and Tank only gets 8 games, we have major problems, IMO. Our DT depth chart will include two guys coming off major injuries (Harris and Dvoracek) and Anthony Adams. This a major trouble area, IMO.
  10. Sweet Lord 900 Homers, anybody? Psh, he's gonna hit 1000. and Yankees fans will still boo him ...and complain that 450 of those HRs weren't clutch enough.
  11. Yeah! Tie this one up Mike, you poor excuse for a catcher, you!
  12. I don't think he is the worst defensive C in the NL, but I do wish he were better than he is. I think we are all just frustrated by the fact this game looks like a re-run of so many over the last few years.
  13. Like go out and get ARod to play SS?
  14. He's got a 724 OPS, including a .308 OBP. He's not doing anything. I don't think he said he is setting the world afire; he just said he's hitting the ball hard. he hit a couple yesterday that just went right at the Stros.
  15. He certainly could have said "I'm not interested", but he didn't. Reading between the lines it looks like whether or not Wrigley is included in the purchase would be an important detail for him, as it should be. i just know that he won't be approved by the league. and it sucks that reinsdorf is going to have that much pull with the league to keep cuban out. politically, reinsdorf would sabotage him. the whole thing smacks of collusion, because it's a conflict of interest for jerry to have a vote at all, anyway. sadly, he wouldn't need a vote, just a phone and a few friends around the league. no way reinsdorf pulls that off. He tried when Cuban bought the Mavs and ended up being the only person who voted against it. I can't see him swaying over half the league to his side. No chance at all he has way more influence in baseball than in basketball. in the NBA, he was outvoted 29-1, but he's not close with stern, but is with selig. Correct. Reinsdorf would be a problem here.
  16. I guess we know what motivates Santana. I just lost a lot of respect for him. That quote there represents alot of things that are wrong with professional sports today. yep because everyone i know would take a job for 10 bucks a hour instead of the 30 bucks a hour to do the exact same thing that someone else offered. Especially in Santana's position of being the best pitcher in baseball. You completely missed his point. It was not about money, it was about his negotiation style. He made a blatant threat.
  17. The problem with giving him a couple more starts is that people will be focused on the outcome and not the process. If he gets lucky with BABIP and wins a game despite having lousy stuff again, he'll get more rope with which to hang himself, and that will cost the team more in the long run. I get what you are saying, but I don't think you are giving Lou enough credit, nor are you allowing for sample size bearing out what is actually happening. I think we have to allow him a couple of starts to figure out if this is a trend or just aberations. Look at Contreras' first start next to the one he made last night. I am not saying Miller is Contreras, just want to give him a chance to show me he has something more than waht he showed a couple of days ago.
  18. Here's the reason not to cut Miller from the rotation just yet: The team has only played 7 games. You aren't out of any race until at least Memorial Day, IMO. If I were Lou I'd give him two or three more starts and see what happens. If he is still putrid, yank him back to the pen as the 11th or 12th man or send him down to work out his issues, and insert Guzman (the guy I wanted to see in the 5th slot to begin with) into the rotation. My gut tells me this will happen sooner rather than later. And before you say it again, I know that this team doesn't have a large margin of error - I get it. But the division stinks and we have greater depth in our pitching staff than we have had in recent years. Give him a chance - not an endless one, but give it to him.
  19. He looked pretty bad in Milw., but I'll allow more than one start before passing judgment.
  20. I guess we know what motivates Santana. I just lost a lot of respect for him. That quote there represents alot of things that are wrong with professional sports today. QFT Jim ought to start clearing the decks now to make a run at him. Just kidding, but if he does hit the mkt I would hope Jim would make a serious run at Johan.
