  1. The sad truth about this mistake in the use of Mitre is we'll get a chance to see it again before the season ends.
  2. You have the numbers to back that up? Because I would argue that Mitre sucks in every capacity involving a baseball, glove and uniform Didn't he win two consecutive starts earlier this season? Pitching something like 14 consecutive shutout innings? Beyond that, you're correct, he's been terrible perhaps, I should have written something like: whatever chance Mitre has at effectiveness is as a starter. The point being he should not be used in relief.
  3. Worst tactician/pen usage in my 36 years. I can live with mistakes from time to time they'll happen but, I agree, he consistently makes the same mistakes game in and game out. There's no other word for it other than stupidity.
  4. No, no, no. The Cubs will tie the Astros for the Wild Card and lose in the 15th inning of Game 163. So how are they gonna do it? Walk in the winning run? Dramatic walkoff homer? My money is on at least one error being involved in the play. The bases would be loaded, the Cubs would be ahead by 1, and there would be a play that SHOULD be routine for the 3rd and final out that someone would screw up, and 2 runs would score to give the Astros the win. Better yet, in a key at bat the idoit will bring Mitre to serve up a gopher ball..."Dude, I didn't want to burn out Novoa, Williamson or Dempster."
  5. Whatever effectiveness Mitre brings to the Cubs is most definitely as a starter, why hasn't Baker figure that out yet?
  6. do you really think the difference between a 4th/5th place team and a world series contender is the defense at ss? No but, improved defense from 2B and SS along with Wood, Prior and Zambrano making a combined 60+ starts is...
  7. I believe Hendry is going to defensively upgrade 2B or SS or both which means Garciapparra may not be resigned. For all the good vibes Garciapparra has generated with his recent hot streak I don't believe Hendry is going to chance getting burned in 2006 as he did with Nomar this season. Add this to his diminished defensive skills and one can see Hendry going hard after Furcal. Who can blame him? Pitching and defense have worked tremendously well for the 04&05 Cards along with the 05 White Sox - that's the direction I see Hendry going for the 06 Cubs.
  8. And upon their return, Walker and Sanders, are going perform as if they haven't missed a beat, turn it on, 100%?
  9. True enough however, doing so results in a lower number of Jimmy Dives Alot ESPN highlights.
  10. That was a WS contender the Cubs faced over the last 3 games? In the word of Dr. Evil: rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright...
  11. Bank on it, with probability 1, upon being traded from the Cubs, the light will go on and he'll become an All Star. It's as sure as Death and Taxes...
  12. Haven't we learned? If Cubs sign someone with any injury history at all it'll come back to bite them. Burnett would be a very nice addition but, put it down now, if he signs with the Cubs, he won't make it out of ST on the active roster. Of course, if he signs with the Cards, he'll be sprinkled with Magic Baseball Dust, make 30-35 starts and win 20-25 games.
  13. Look no further than Team Fundamental last night...
  14. Why waste time complaining of and about Baker or contemplating what it might take to rid the Cubs of Baker? Why not accept the fact he's going to be around for a minimum of one more season and wait on Hendry' off-season moves?
  15. As much as many of us would like to see Dusty permanently removed from the kitchen I believe he'll, at the very least, Manage, I use this term loosely, the Cubs in 2006. Here's hoping Hendry has a stellar offseason...
  16. I don't know which was more unbelievable Rusch' performance or Patterson, after a HR, taking five consecutive pitches!
  17. You'd think the Manager everyone wants to play for would be able to help recruit Furcal. After all, Baker should be good for something, shouldn't he?
  18. Anyone know the opponents BA vs. Prior when he's ahead in the count 0-2 or 1-2? I only seen a small sample but, when someone with Prior' stuff is way ahead in the count, those batters shouldn't have a chance. Yet, several times this year I've seen him lose hitter after hitter, the most blatant example being Mike Lamb earlier in the year - that Grand Slam was on a 1-2 pitch.
  19. I know its probably asking for a bit much but, I'd sure like to see a dominant Prior outing. It would be a refreshing change from his most recent starts.
  20. He'll probably sign in StL, find the fountain of youth and have 3 consecutive career years. You've nailed it, beyond a doubt, he'd be fantastic for the Cardinals, everything the breath on, touch or remotely think about turns to Gold.
  21. Doesn't keeping Walker necessitate signing Furcal? With Walker at 2B and Ramirez at 3B, the Cubs will need a defensively strong SS such as Furcal.
  22. Someday the Cubs are going to win the WS, I hope ESPN is banned from from the Cubs locker and Post WS Press Conference that day.
  23. Rusch is so bad right now Patterson could draw a BB facing him.
  24. Pierre getting on base, Delgado hitting a SF - I can live with that but, why does also have to players like, Conine, the very definition of a baseball schmuck, that excell vs. the Cubs?
  25. The leadoff batter of a smart Baseball team would definitely try to push a bunt along 3B against the Cubs today.
