    Granted Wisconsin is terrible nevertheless, in years past the Illini still would have gotten blown out and been the perfect make us look and feel better opponent for the Badgers. That didn't happen, in fact, the Illini pounded a bad team like a decent or good team should do to an inferior opponent. I believe the Illinois program is starting to become one that'll beat the snot of out Northwestern, pull off a big upset and consistently make it to a bowl. In other words no longer an embarrassing joke of a football program.

    Agree with much of this. For the 1-on-1 man thing I wonder if this is where not having a dependable veteran receiver hurts him. He doesn’t feel comfortable throwing those “go up and get it” types of passes that you see other QBs throw to their trusted WRs. This is not absolving him of things, just a possible area where addressing WR more in the offseason could have helped him. At some point Fields has say horsefeathers it and throw the ball, his targets aren't going change and they'll never make that play if not given the chance. This whole mentality of not having trust leading to lack of attempts is completely self defeating, why even continue playing if that's the attitude?

    You know they get more than just the three hours every Sunday we get to evaluate him right? Yes, but, it appears they gave up on him day 1. Probably speaking more from frustration than logic, who knows maybe Fields is being brought along, just at an infinitely slow pace. Stand before taking a step, taking a step before taking another, take another step before multiple steps, walk before walking briskly, walk briskly before jogging, jog before running, excruciatingly tedious.

    Poles, Erberflus and Getsy eye for talent must be otherworldly to know Fields isn't the answer without giving him a chance. Also means, given they're so good at QB evaluation, they better get it right with their choice.

    Regardless, of what Eberflus and Getsy say, that's a concerted, designed effort to not develop your QB. Don't know what other conclusion you can come to other than they don't think he's guy.

    Listened to game, Thayer mentioned the opposition is not respecting Fields as a threat. Fair enough, he hasn't shown anything that would make them take him seriously. The opposition must also know they're facing a coaching staff that tucks its tail between its legs every chance it gets and won't stick with it, super easy to defend.

    Worst outcome would have been them winning with their chicken horsefeathers approach. I'm glad they lost maybe, now, Mr. win every game he can will start thinking about developing a QB and a passing game.

    He's very good, how many seasons of effectiveness does he have 3?

    Couple that with a QB who often holds on to the ball too long not a winning combination.

    This game is shaping up as one that is going to be won, if the Bears are going to win, by throwing the ball.

    I'm as down on Fields right now as anyone however, in watching some of the film breakdown I feel slightly better. He did make the right read and throw on a few plays and yes, he was terrible on others. Given its possible to repeat something one does correctly again maybe, there's glimmer of hope. Moreover, I caught some of Trent Dilfer on the radio and, he to, said Fields was terrible, the interceptions were incorrect reads and their were other throws that could have been made. He also said there were some flashes and perfectly executed throws. Along with he's not ready to write Fields off as a bust just yet. Is what we are seeing from Fields Mitch dumb or still learning, mistakes will be made and will slowly improve? I certainly hope its the later, just once, horsefeathering once I want to see the Bears with a competent QB.

    With regards to the WRs, they've sucked but we also have to remember that Velus Jones and N'Keal Harry have yet to play. Velus was most likely their 3rd (maybe 2nd) WR. I'm not sure what Harry would have brought to the table but he was a volume option with possible upside. Here were the possible WR acquisitions if the Bears decided to spend more of their focus on the position: * = Still a Free Agent right now Bold = Signed a 1 year deal Odell Beckham* Will Fuller* TY Hilton* Jarvis Landry Russell Gage JuJu Smith-Schuster Christian Kirk Julio Jones DJ Chark Marquez Valdez-Scantling Jamison Crowder Quite a few players that we could have fit into the 2022 team that would be upgrades over Pringle or whoever the WR2 technically is and wouldn't have hurt our cap beyond this season. That said, every single one of those 1 year deal guys besides DJ Chark signed with a contender so maybe they would have never been available to the Bears without overpaying, but just saying there were reasonable options out there. Not a single one of them could do any more or any less than what the Bears are getting out of their present receiving corps. People are getting open, are open, Fields isn't executing, it's all on him right now.

    I would have liked 1 of the top guards. I wanted dude from the 49ers or the Rams C. But like I said, Poles had 20M and 30 spots to fill when free agency started. Of course, he tried to use a chunk of that space to sign a DT so...... But yeah, an elite OG on a 4-year deal would be nice. That's a guy that can still be around when Fields or the next QB is ready to lead the team to the playoffs. That's a guy that can stabilize the line until you get to that point. As for WR, I think drafting a guy in the 2nd would have been nice, but you were already getting like the 7th/8th best guy by that point anyway. No guarantee it would have made much difference thus far. The WRs they could have had over Velus Jones have put up: 1 catch, 5 yards 0-0 (and out for the year with cancer) 0-0 5-65 3-61 (all yesterday) 1-30 And I have no issue with Pringle. That's the type of guy they should've signed. Coming off a strong year, his 1st year getting a chance to contribute, productive, but cheap enough to not break the bank. Pringle hasn't stayed healthy. Sucks, but it happens. Velus Jones is looking more and more like Poles' Kevin White - drafted in 2015, hurt, didn't play until 2016.

    No it hasn't. Just the run game. All the pass blocking has been bad, by all 6 OL that have played. All the WRs have had trouble getting open. Even Herbert has had trouble pass blocking. The only things good about this offense has been Montgomery all around, Herbert running the ball, and the OL run blocking. Disagree. the pass blocking has been frequently adequate. Probably because the defenses don't care if we pass, but still. I agree on the pass blocking, its more Fields holding on to the ball too long than bad pass blocking.

    They should but they have no confidence in him. If they start getting incorrect playoff hopes, I wonder if Fields has a leash. To me that means they're bad coaches, confidence in him or not, they must try to build his confidence.

    I don't care how many interceptions Fields throws, you've got to keep trying, it's impossible for him to improve as passer by continually handing the ball off. The part I don't like about this staff is they appear unwilling to keep trying, they're not remotely interested in trying to develop Fields. Would they be more willing if Fields was their guy?

    Even the most rational diehard Fields' supporters, after this game, have to start thinking he's doesn't have the goods to succeed in the NFL. If that's the case, I'd stay away drafting the QB's of programs who surround them with 5 star recruits. For me, that means a hard pass on Young and Stroud.

    Why is it every other team in the NFL, regardless of who their receivers are, can get off a super quick pass, except for the Bears?

    That's just it, they're not giving him a chance to develop, time and time again, they give up in passing situations. If they're goal was to not even give him a chance because you're convinced he's not the guy mission accomplished.
