    Big overpay + injury history = crippling, dead money contract, all it takes is for him to get hurt to have baseball talking about how reckless and foolish it is to give such a contract to Correa. And we all know had the Cubs made this move, Correa would probably be injured stepping off the bus on the first day of spring training.

    Honestly, the "best" move they can make at this point is just sitting out. They're going to give Segura some ridiculous 3 or 4 year deal and try to sell him as an undervalued star. Count on it, Jed Hoyer the MVP, the greatest fiscally responsible GM in baseball, sounds much nicer than scared and cheap.

    Exactly what I was thinking, they told him to spend, so horsefeathering grow some and pull the trigger.

    Correa is not going to happen, granted an overpay is required to get one of the SS's but, the type of overpay required for a Correa is not one Jed's going to execute. Swanson will also require an overpay but, it'll be in money not years, if Jed signs a SS at all, it'll probably be Swanson. Although I'm still leaning towards nothing in regard to signing a SS.

    It would take some kind of capricious event for the Bears to win another game. This current Bears defense has made people like Marcus Marriota and Mike White look good, think about that. A ball bouncing off someone for a pick 6 or the officiating totally horsefeathering up a call that benefits the Bears is what's required for them to win another game.

    Well, one absolute certain way to be fiscally responsible is to not spend at all. Don't want to be burned by big money, long term contracts? Don't sign anyone, this seems like a very real possibility.

    Rams' win last night was big now, if only Denver could find another win, I think the Bears would lock up the 2nd pick. If they Bears and Broncos both end up at 3-14 how do the Broncos end up with the 2nd pick? Is it because they played an easier schedule and are therefore, the worst team? Should the Bears end up at 2, I'd really like to see them hold on to it and take Anderson. The best player in the draft, the kind of transformative player the Bears need on defense. I want the Bears to get away from the whole defense, defense and run the ball nonsense but, I don't think you can pass on a talent like Anderson. Besides they'll still be able to address OL and WR with their remaining day 1 and 2 picks.

    Considering how little these guys have played together, I'm hoping that they continue to get better as the year goes. I think the upside is enormous. Right now they're still very sloppy with lots of turnovers and 1v1 on offense, but as they gel they could very well be the team that finally gets UI back into the sweet 16 and further. Clark is going too fast, lots of unnecessary dribbling, I think he'll start figuring it out soon. In the meantime, Epps was very good last night, he's fearless not afraid of rising to moment and taking a big shot. Him and Clark both are the types that can penetrate, get to the hoop, this style seems to excel in the tournament. Would love if the Illini had another shot at Maryland - Illini' best >>> Maryland' best - Ilini did play well at all and still could have won at Maryland.

    Depends on how you define it, but guys with significant offensive improvement on past form would be Montero, Valbuena, Coghlan, and Wisdom in recent years. Further back you have Aramis, Lee, Barrett, and Todd Walker too. Probably could say they fixed Rizzo and Happ too (if last year is close to his new norm), Fowler put up his 2 highest WAR years here and highest OBP and wRC+ year and highest non Coors BA year too and think there was reports they tweaked some stuff with him. I guess there are cases of players improving as Cubs, I'm certain the biggest factor is the health of his shoulder. Healed and there's a chance he'll bounce back.

    I'm hoping there's more to the offseason than this, like some here I'm not hip on Bellinger' bat improving. In fact, I cannot recall the Cubs ever "fixing" a broken bat, I sure it's happened, I think. But it appears to me players such Bellinger, Heyward just get worse when they're Cubs.

    I'm okay if he, Borom, and Leatherwood are the 2-4 tackle spots (plus Borom and Leatherwood can also prob bump inside as backups). I want them to sign a legit veteran tackle (Right or Left side doesn't matter IMO) I'd rather they focus their attention on the interior O-line Competency at C would have a big positive impact on the whole line.

    Unless he’s a magic man with the golden touch it’s going to take more than one offseason. I’m looking for significant improvement and hopefully meaningful games in December. It’ll be 2024 when the Bears are a serious threat, best case. At minimum we should expect marked improvement on both sides of the ball, there's no reason whatsoever this cannot happen. Hell, just drafting Will Anderson alone means QB's won't have an infinite amount of time to pass. Draft Anderson and sign any fairly decent DL and plays like the TD pass to Watson don't happen as often. There's isn't a GM in history who's hit on everyone but, Poles has to hit on the day 1 and 2 picks along with a FA on each side of the ball and really, that isn't all that daunting. It's highly possible, I think even a remotely good GM could get it right.

    Yeah unfortunately, the draft and FA aren't idiot proof, Anderson is an almost guaranteed high impact player, quite probably the best player in the 2023 draft. It's good for the Bears that an apparent QB starved team is drafting ahead of them because he'd most certainly be taken #1. After the #2 pick Poles can still horsefeathers things up with the remainder of the picks and FA, he's got to hit on a good percentage of them, this is worrisome. Will Anderson is exactly what we need (or at least one of the many). I still cant help but hope for a massive trade down for a QB needy team because I think having multiple 1sts for the next couple of years (what I would expect in a trade) and still pick in the top 10 is too good to turn down. But I also won't be devastated if they stick with Anderson, who would completely transform the defense immediately. He's a Micah Parsons clone, without question he will transform the defense, I think if Lovie had his way, he'd take him over Young or Stroud.

    I thought I’d care about losing to the Packers but I really don’t at all. Both teams are going nowhere this year but the future is brighter for the Bears. If things go the way we hope they do we’ll take over the rivalry. Of course I would have loved to have shut up that smug 9/11 truther son of a bitch but whatever.     Some media saying this was a missed opportunity for the Bears to break through and finally beat the Packers, they're way, way, off. I'm surprised the game was in question at all, Fields playing with what is close to worst roster in the NFL and the game was there for the taking. It's a credit to how he's grown and improved, if the roster is upgraded there no question the Packers days of dominating the Bears are soon coming to an end. Green Bay doesn't have the draft or financial capital to improve, they're not going to a better team in 2023. The Bears almost certainly are going to look far different the next time they play the Packers. I'd really like to see something like Will Anderson finally putting an end to Rodgers as the Bears win.

    Better players == better coaching, the play calling is severely limited by this roster of garbage, don't get me wrong, they've made some mistakes. However, I believe the coaching will dramatically improve with a roster of a professional football team.

    Illinois lost at home to Purdue. Well aware of that, BS interface call on a Witherspoon pick, Purdue holding on nearly every down, they made some plays. However, they may not have won without the benefit of some inconsistent and bad officiating.

    I'm stilled pissed the Big Ten West' best team, the Illini, aren't playing Michigan today. By no means am I thinking the Illini would have won, I do believe they'd have a better showing than this Purdue team. O'Connell going to throw a minimum of two interceptions, there's an excellent chance this game is going to over by halftime.

    I'm so torn. I would love nothing more than Fields to singlehandedly beat GB this week, and my fantasy team needs a win in 1 of my money leagues. But the defense couldn't stop this same bad GB offense earlier in the season, and they had Quinn, Roquan, and Jackson then. So, they're going to lose anyway and now I have to actually care if Fields plays. I'm sticking with my earlier position. I think my favorite scenario is that Fields leads the Bears on a late (would be) game-winning drive, only to allow a TD return on the ensuing kickoff. Fields shuts people up by showing he "knows how to win", but we still solidify the draft status. What'll probably happen is Fields will play, he'll play well, Bears will score some points, but Rodgers will have a great game, Packers will win by 25+. Aferwards that horsefeathering [expletive] will laugh and belittle the Bears, kick them when their down, he'll do this because it's his last time he'll have the opportunity to do so.

    If that happens, Pace better call Carolina and see how bad they want a QB. Or another team who wants to jump ahead of Lions/Seahawks. They’re more likely to give you a haul. horsefeathers! I'm gonna blame autocorrect on that one. :lol: If the Bears end up at #2 and the Lions at #3 and #13 would they be willing to trade up one spot to be assured of either Young or Stroud? That would be ideal for the Bears, take Anderson at #3 and OL or WR at #13. This upcoming draft and free agency have a chance to be a real game changer for the Bears. It's a chance to build the foundation for a playoff contender 2024 and beyond, for the Bears the 2023 offseason is shaping up to be their most important and impactful this century. No pressure Ryan Poles.

    I'd never wish injury on any player but in the end I'd rather the Bears simply hurt Rodgers and knocked him out of the game. or season. In my statements above I was referencing a Bears team without Fields at QB, with Fields at QB it wouldn't be so hilarious if the Bears win. They would have won because of something Fields did. My dream scenario - Justin Fields, with a shell of a defense, leads the Bears to a last minute one point win thereby, marking an end to the Packers and Rodgers dominance of the Bears. That is, in a few years we'll all point back to day Fields and Bears pulled off a miraculous win as the starting point of the Bears dominating the NFC North and the Packers.

    Do not think it's possible nevertheless, wouldn't it be horsefeathering hilarious if this Bears team managed to beat the Packers? A team with the equivalent of a low D1 defense and a high school caliber offense, might be worse than any playoff loss for Rodgers. Of course, should it come to pass, Rodgers has the built-in I was playing hurt excuse.
