  1. la is by far the biggest threat. if we make it to the finals, we will do so as the clear favorites to win the cup. i'm more worried about boston than pitt All of this is true. It will be interesting to see how long Stoll is out and how that affects the Kings going forward.
  2. How many games does Torres get? Theyw ere saying 5 on the Hawks broadcast. It didn't look like he left his feet but he definitely targeted his head. Anyone else would get 5 for that. Torres should get the rest of the playoffs given his previous arrest record so to speak.
  3. That's not really their game. Babcock will make other adjustments for game 2. The key for them really is trying to get a stronger forecheck and spend more time behind the goal line in the offensive zone. That's what gives the Hawks the most trouble this season. After that game, their defensemen are probably curled up in a ball, rocking back and forth silently screaming "make it stop, make it stop"
  4. McNeil was talking about it on the Score today and floated something about the Hawks recently approaching Stalberg about a contract extension and he turned them down. Didn't exactly link it to this situation though. Could be one of many dominos that fell to get to this point, as I highly doubt the Hawks would weaken their team in the playoffs because someone didn't want to immediately reup with them. That can't possibly be what this is about. More liekly, Q wanted to send a message by benching Stalberg and Saad. The next day Saad was saying all the right things to reporters and was reinstated. Perhaps Stalberg didn't react the way Q wanted so he doesn't dress for the game. Either that or he had sex with Q's daughter, sister, wife or mother.
  5. yikes Don't necessarily like it but the other options aren't great either. Q seems intent on playing Handzus so he's either centering the 2nd line or skating on Kruger's wing with Shaw centering the 2nd line.
  6. And they did have the Canucks getting swept, just not till the second round. Wow. will they re do these based the actual matchups? It's silly putting any stock in this when they have the Habs making the ECF
  7. All that talk of tempo and speed in practice sounds an awful lot like what we heard when Lovie first showed up. Has Trestman gone beyond that or were Lovie's practices starting to slowdown as the roster aged? That's probably what any new coach does. It's a lot easier to slow down later than speed up.
  8. I can't remember ever seeing a team score 2 goals with an empty net ever. In baseball terms, it would be like blowing a 10 run lead in the 9th inning.
  9. A lot of people sucked against the Desert doggies last year. Handzus had a much worse series against the Wild. If anyone should be enjoying the foood in the press box it's him. More to the point, Carcillo brings nothing to the table except maybe taking stupid penalties. If they feel like they need someone to fight Bertuzzi, they might as well play Bollig. On the other hand, if the lineup winds up being Saad-Toews-Hossa Sharp-Handzus-Kane Bickell-Bolland-Shaw Smith-Kruger-Frolik I won't complain too much
  10. Obviously not a perfect match but I think they are more Dodgers than Cubs. Terrific success in the middle of the last century and then not much since then. Maybe a combination of Dodgers/Indians/Cubs. I could see the Indians part. Do people really hate the Dodgers? It seems like all of hockey has an inherent contempt for the Leafs. do people hate the indians? plus, the tribe made it to the WS twice in the mid/late 90's No. I think most people really are completely unaware that the Indians exist. But the time frame of good back in the '50s and nothing since is a match. Maybe the Dallas Cowboys are the best match of all: formerly good- check haven't won anything recently- check hated outside their own fanbase- check feel like they invented the sport- check insufferable fanbase- check

  12. The Maple Leafs are the Cubs of Hockey.
  13. Sportswriters only look at counting stats like goals and assists. They're going to give Toews the Selke so they won't consider him for the Hart. Take Tavarez off the Isles and they have nothing. Crosby is the Face of the league
  14. But Edzo says putting the puck on net is always a good play. :banghead: I often wonder why the d men don't carry the puck another 8 feet into the zone (when they can) instead of shooting as soon as they reach the blueline. It's one thing when you're trying to dump and chase but that doesn't work if the goalie just catches it and either holds for the faceoff or dumps it to one of his d men
  15. They're also less talented than the Kings and therefore less of a threat for the upset too.
  16. If you look at the official description of the Norris Trophy, it more or less says best offensive defenseman. You could make a better case for Leddy to win the Norris than Seabrook. Not that it matters though since Subban is basically a lock unless they decide that they want to placate the Wild by giving it to Suter. edit: I forgot about that 2 goal game Seabrook had which actually gives him 2 more points than Leddy. Keith led all Hawks defenseman with 27 points 3G 24A. Fun fact: the Hawks only hade 3 minus players among the regulars - Bolland -7, Brookbank -1 and Bollig -3. Mr. White was -3 in his one game.
  17. The OT between the Bruins and Leafs was pretty excited- I almost looked like the Western Conference for a while there.
  18. The Wings are more of a known commodity. Most of the games against the Sharks feel like they were really early in the season, before the deadline anyway. Since then they have been playing a lot better. I agree that the Hawks can win either series but the Wings would have to be the easier of the 2 opponents.
  19. Really hoping the Rangers can even up the series. Around here everyone is either Pens or Caps with a sprinkling of Rangers. Caps fans are getting pretty chesty after the Pens lost last night.
  20. I fell alseep putting my 4 year old to bed. I woke up to find the Hawks up 2- at the end of the 2nd so I went back to sleep. Sounds like I won.
  21. Please don't call the Sedins "sisters", it's an insult to female hockey players in particular and women in general. RE: Vokoun, He's been fairly inconsistent himself. This has been the Pens for most of the year. They don't play consistent defense in front of either of their goalies so it shouldn't be a surprise when they get lit up. I didn't see the game, did Orpik play?
  22. I agree with mookie...tired of that song Why not sing go cubs go during the stretch. That way predicting that the Cubs will win would at least be in context if not a fact.
  23. In the words of John Lee Hooker: "Before you accuse me, take a look at yourself" Any team with Kessler, Burrows and the Swedish diving team has no right to complain about anyone else diving ever for the rest of time.
  24. LOL at Caps fans complaining about the refs when they got a PP in the last 2 minutes of their game last night.
  25. If (when) the Canucks get swept and AV gets fired, I hope the new coach tries to change the culture of diving and dirty play that they'd had in Vancouver. The guys they have should try to win games by being good at hockey instead of aping Italian soccer players.
