  1. I've always liked Leddy. I believe that between now and then they'll trade Seabrook if they have to in order to lock him up long term. Between now and then, though, Leddy has work to do. This the second year in a row that he got thrown around and intimidated by a bigger team. He was better this year than last so he is making progress. He should only get better. With regards to Emery leaving, no one can say they're surprised or happy to see him go. I hope he signs with the Isles given the teams listed.
  2. By then they will have hopefully replaced Oduya with one of their Defense prospects making the league minimum. That will free up money to extend Leddy if that's what they feel they need to do. Otherwise, they could get a lot for Leddy in a trade at the deadline of that 2nd season.
  3. I think the city has too much money sunk into the arena and that ultimately won out. Do the Suns play in Jobing too? No they play downtown. So their options were subsidize the hockey team even though they don't have the money or leave the building that they built just for hockey empty and still have to pay for it. Either way they were screwed.
  4. That's not so bad. A little higher than expected but less than an offer sheet.
  5. That means that they d prospects have two years to show that they are better than Oduya and or Seabrook. Or Leddy doesn't become the next Paul Coffey. With the rumors about Emery being back, I'd guess that he gets 2 or 2.5 mildo per which isn't bad at all.

  7. That's crazy.
  8. Bickell gets 4/ $4 million. Montador gets bought out. Stalberg is most definitely gone but Emery looks like will resign and hope for a better cap situation after next season. Lots more on that in the Blackhawks thread. Last I heard, Letang wanted $8 million per. There's no way he can get that in Pit.
  9. Now that I think about it, switching Saad and Sharp would give Pirri better defense on his wings. Or perhaps Saad-Pirri-Kane would hopefully be a puck getter (Saad) playmaker (Pirri) and finisher. If they did get another C, it probably pushes Pirri to 4th the 4th line centering Shaw and Smith, etc. In any event, it's nice to have options.
  10. his performance in the playoffs definitely increased his price, but at the same time, he was going to get a raise regardless. he emerged as a real valuable asset the last season and a half, and as long as he continues to perform at that level or improve, then this contract will be worth it He had 9 goals in 48 games. That pace isn't too far off a 20 goal season. Beyond that will depend on how they use him and (like anyone else) his health. Q likes to spread the talent around to complicate the match ups for the opposing coach. In other words, he probably won't be playing on Toew's wing all season. If the season started tomorrow, I'd guess the lines would look like this (before the random line generator takes effect) Saad-Toews-Hossa (if healthy) Sharp-Pirri-Kane Morin-Kruger-Bickell Smith-Shaw- Bollig/ Carcillo/ Hayes Kruger and Shaw are interchangeable and obviously if they make a deal/ sign a 2nd line center that probably pushes Shaw to a wing and Kruger and Pirri down. As for Bolland, he's kind of like Kerry Wood on skates. Did great things on those occasions when he managed to stay healthy.
  11. In this league, where you don't have 6 years to exploit a young player's cheapness like MLB, and where guys can become free agents relatively early, the Blackhawks have a bigger need to maintain the pipeline of younger talent than holding onto overpaid 3rd line centers. i don't think we're getting anything for bolland, if that's what you mean They won t just give Bolland away. I'd guess a 2nd or 3rd round pick. They might also package him to either move up in the draft or get some other piece. I wonder if the hawks would consider trading seabrook. He was pretty off and on this season.
  12. perhaps this should be renamed 2013 NHL off season? Or start a new thread?
  13. Several people did. Personally, I always thought the Hawks were a better team than the Wings though that doesn't mean that they'd win (see last year's playoffs vs Phoenix). People were nervous after every Hawks loss- even the one to the Wild.
  14. wow, what an insane [expletive] I'm glad he didn't get killed out there.
  15. No hockey will be hard to take and the NHL network mysteriously turned itself off yesterday for no apparent reason.
  16. Yeah this was so cool and I'm basically a bandwagon hockey fan. But now you can be hooked
  17. The West was a better conference all year, as they have been for several years now. Where's the "Boston is too big, too resilient to lose" crowd now? Thanks to Barry Melrose for picking the Penguins- the worst jinx in hockey. Zdeno Chara should start his new career as a Bond villain's henchman. Maybe a spike on his elbow instead of the steel brimmed hat. Most importantly, thanks to the Hawks for taking care of business now and not making me miss game 7 because I'll be on the road taking my family to Chicago.
  18. I've heard that Bergeron may have a ruptured spleen. There's also speculation that it may be cracked/broken ribs. Either of those injuries keeps him out. If Toes has a concussion and they let him play, the league really needs to reexamine at their protocol for head injuries. I'd hate to see Toews, or anyone for that matter, end up like this guy: I've also heard it suggested, though, that if Toews had a concussion, they wouldn't have let him be out there on the ice at the end, celebrating with teammates and such. He didn't look concussed and there have reports that he hung around after the game. It would obviously be great if he were able to play.

  20. I have a hard time telling the difference between the people that are trying a reverse jinx mojo thing and those that really believe the series is over. Hossa is a big loss if he can't play in game 4. The Hawks may very well need a shut out from Crawford in Game 4. I believe he can do it.
  21. and often He's crazy if he plays. There's no way anyone can protect a shoulder injury in hockey, especially one that the other team knows about. Even if they didn't, shoulder to shoulder hits happen a lot. Whenever someone is justifying a hit, the first thing they say is "He hit him in the shoulder first.
  22. I will admit I have no idea which hockey trophy is which. Here's a quick guide: Selke: best defensive forward that plays center and scores lots of goals Norris: highest scoring defenseman even if he's -30 on the season Rocket Richard: Guy that scored the most goals Hart: guy that scored the most goals that didn't win the Rocket Richard that plays in the Eastern Conference Conn Smythe: playoff MVP (fun fact, Patrick Roy won more of these than Gretzsky) Vezina: Owners favorite goalie
  23. Bollig isn't that bad and for a guy that isn't really there to play hockey he does have some skill- He's not John Scott out there. His size isn't useful against the HuLK line since he wouldn't be out there against them on purpose.
