  1. Didn't we already go through a "Let's pay relievers $4mil per season to maybe be great"? There are a few guys worth the type of money that they're going to get but, depending on resources, spending a lot on non closers hasn't been that great of a bet before.
  2. I don't think it's gonna happen, but I'm really hoping Maddon wins MOY, just because of all the playoff criticism he's taken. Should drive people insane. Isn't Roberts the "consensus" pick? He really didn't look it during the NLCS. The voting takes place before the playoffs. I hope it's Buck Showalter in the AL.
  3. After reading that thread I was struck by JR trolling the bum and a couple people not picking up on it.
  4. Did it occur to anyone else that the Cubs had their most successful season right after they stopped showing games on WGN?
  5. I wonder how they feel about bat flips?
  6. So here I am, getting teary eyed with every article I read or video that I watch. Yesterday I called my mom. She's 85 but still goes to about a dozen games a year. I couldn't believe how matter of fact she was about the Cubs winning the World Series. She starts telling me about her bridge game and I'm thinking "How are you not more excited about the Cubs?". Then it occurred to me that she's probably still in a little bit of disbelief. I don't know if it's part of being a Cubs fan and having my heart broken 5 different times but I was actually nervous watching a replay of the final out as though somehow Bryant actually airmailed the throw and the tying run scored again in the tenth. This is so strange.
  7. That's really fantastic. Thanks so much That video shows the total team effort that won this championship.
  8. You know what gets talked about all the horsefeathering time like it happened yesterday in mainstream baseball media? The 2004 Red Sox, 12 years later. People will always care about historic victories. Two things can happen, This will be remembered as the first in a string of World Championships, in which case it will always be the most important or it will be the only world championship we get out of this group. Either way, this will be the one that people will talk about.
  9. Here's a brief recap: -The PK has sucked but now seems to be a lot better -Anisimov and Panik are off to great starts -Rumors of Marian Hossa's death have been greatly exaggerated -Toews is off to his usual slow start but has stared scoring goals now -Crawford has like a .960 even strength save % -Kempny is good, Forsling has flashes, TVR is hurt. Campbell has stabilized things.
  10. This has happened the last couple years which I think means that it has something to do with the realignment when they moved Detroit to the Eastern Conference.
  11. It would be really hard to figure out when my first game at Wrigley was so I'll go with the first game that I vividly remember. August 24, 1983, Chuck Rainey takes a no hitter 2 outs into the 9th inning until Eddie Milner broke it up with a single. Thad Bosley (one of my favorite Cubs) Ryne Sandberg Mell Hall Leon Durham Keith Moreland Ron Cey Steve Lake (I always liked him better than Jody Davis) Larry Bowa Chuck Rainey
  12. I think it's fair to say that most people sort of hated Ross at the start of the season but that, as the season went along, he became more and more likeable and now loveable.
  13. Bill Murray
  14. Same here. I went outside to celebrate last night and it was really foggy so I was hoping school would be delayed. Nope.
  15. I think this post belongs in the "The Cubs lost the World Series" thread that doesnt and never will exist. It belongs in the "Cubs are trying to repeat" thread that will start next fall. Maddon's management of the game is certainly open to criticism but not the day after they just won the horsefeathering world series.
  16. Yesterday would have been my brother's birthday.
  17. Just one more great thing about this team.
  18. Nice little pass by Schmaltz to spring him.
  19. Cards fans, especially southern Illinois Card's fans can shove their 11 titles where the sun don't shine. horsefeathers them
  20. That game was everything I thought it would be. When do we start talking about this being one of the all time great teams? They won over 100 regular season games. The defense was historically good. 2 starting pitchers should be finalists for the Cy Young. The lineup didn't have any meaningful weaknesses. Oh and they also won the WORLD SERIES!.
  21. The Hawks have now killed 5 of their last 6 PP. With very little cap room to go after a scoring forward I wonder if the seemingly small move will be to get a veteran bottom 6 guy that is good on the kill.
  22. I hate how they are acting like Montreal's hot start justifies trading Subban for Weber. With all of the injuries to start this season, you'd have to think at least some of that is due to the WCOH messing with pre season.
  23. its' not like they are hurting for alumni to drive interest and if/when it ever happens it will require PR work that they probably have no interest in dealing with right now. How much PR work? All they have to do is have Kerry Wood say "Sammy is welcome to come back whenever he wants." If they get the guy that smashed his boom box to welcome him back, I don't see who's going to question the motives or particularly care that it hasn't happened already.
  24. In that sense he's even more dangerous since when and how to use Miller is a big part of their strategy and they won't have the luxury of knowing when and where Schwarber will make that PH appearance. Speaking of Miller, they will have a hard time getting 2 innings + out of him unless they are willing to send him to the plate.
  25. Yeah, I may be gray, but no problems with losing hair. I'll take that. I have a beautiful head of hair and I don't think I look 48. But I now have "been watching baseball since before a guy nicknamed Grandpa was even born" on my resume.
